Exchanges hardware wallet models

What type/models of hardware wallets would exchanges use?

Some have like 100k bitcoins in hardware wallets. How do they keep the qctual wallet from being compromized. They surely cannt let anyone even the owners tranfer funds outside from it or even hold it  Grin
Thats open to criminals chasing people with access to those wallets even if the employees were honest they are still under risk if they have sole access. So what type of hardware wallets would they use?

I see ledger has a wallet that can have multi seed access and transaction size restrictions but thats something new, surely there was a solution before ledegers one.

Credit card processors for bitcoin brokerage service
by

on 16/05/2018, 14:38:46 UTC
Hi Guys,

Would you know any credit card processors that would process credit card payments for buying bitcoin?
As you all know they all block those type of transactions but yet the big companies are accepting credit cards for buying bitcoins.
We have a small bitcoin broker website that only takes SEPA payments and we are looking to add credit card payments as an option.

Thank you!

Want to understand how online transaction services work
by
BaiMangal
on 01/11/2017, 15:19:48 UTC
Hi Guys,

What would be a good starting point to understand and learn how transactions are done on behalf of users. Like the exchanges.
User has own bitcoin address in say bitstamp/kraken/blockchain.info
The user has their own 24 words seed.
What I want to learn is how the different providers initiate a transaction on behalf of the user from the users wallet. Surely they don't store users passphrase, that sounds way too unsecure.

Any articles, github project, would be much appreciated.

Sorry for the basic question.

I think pastet89 is right as it is was never stated in OP that he can not take part of the contest and he honoured the rules from the begining, keeping the signature till the end. Obviously he would have not edited his signature if he has was not planning to participate.
Furhtermore, usually contests which clearly states organisators can not participate include element of a raflle as people can say at the end that the raffle was fixed. In this case there was even not a raffle so no one can rise this question. Pastet89 has followed all the rules in the OP, has not broke any rule (only one rule for not participating was being a Newbie, nothing else), and has made most posts during the contest period which anyone can check by reviweing the users profile in Bitcointalk. Therefore IMO here everything is more than clear.

Just my 2 cents...

BCNext:     Now, when you know why Nxt was created your should choose what way to follow.

Is this the reason you are staying CFB?

No. I'm launching my own project that uses Nxt so I decided to complete some things before leaving.

I would love to see it!! This should be something super exciting and well done!
GL with it!

CFB, is this an Aprils Fools Joke?

Where, geographically, is April Fools Day celebrated?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools'_Day

April Fools' Day (sometimes called All Fools' Day) is an informal holiday celebrated every year on April 1. Popular since medieval times, the day is not a national holiday in any country, but it is widely recognized throughout European cultures and celebrated as a day when people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other, called April fools.[1] Hoax stories are also often found in the press and media on this day.

Re: Nxt full feature clients - progress tracking thread

We have got around completing the first version of our nxtManager windows client.
Our aim is to have it as simple as possible windows client that will require no computer knowledge. We want to be as easy as to be used from our grand-parents.
To accomplish this we have created a windows installer containing the Jetty Server, the current NRS 0.7.5 and jre 7.2 (java) in one simple install wizard.
The program has 2 options one is to unlock an existing account and one is to create a new account. We wanted to make sure that when people create an account they can not use less than 35 characters.
Obviously there is no creation of an account but we thought the human psychology will make most people to click create new account when they want a new account and they will be forced to enter more characters.
This is part of our none computer literate audience approach.

All files including installer and source are available for download here:github.com/BaiMangal/nxtManager
nxtManagerInstall.msi will install everything need for the client to run on a windows PC in a well known wizard type of instalation.

nxtManager is developed using C#, .net 4, WPF and is fully open source.

Minimum system requirement:
Windows XP Service Pack 3
1GB RAM
200MB free disk space

The first version of nxtManager contains the main functionality needed to perform simple tasks as:
-Simple windows msi install
-Asynchronous processes to allow it working fast and in real time.
-Open/Unlock/Create Nxt account. Create Account option will force users to put 40 characters at least.
-Forging
-Send NXT
-Create/Check Alias URI

Here are some screen shots:

Console and Synching Blockchain:https://www.dropbox.com/s/3mz96h0ivlprxqr/synch.png

We will try to keep it up to date with the constantly evolving Nxt protocol.

More donations would be greatly appreciated and allow us to dedicate more resources to the development and bug fixing.

Can someone elaborate on this missing NXT C++ client  ?

I do not think there will ever be a official C++ client. mcxNOW should learn to work with the java client instead. What's the big issue here? He can implement an API in c++ that talks to the java client if he wants too...

thats exactly how we are going to have our windows client in c# with api calls and java runing inside app console

they can just implement it in c++ with very little effort using APIs

yes

Okay - am glad I worked that out - but am not sure if "scripts" are the right answer to that (as I think multi-sig txs are planned down the track).

I am sorry I suck in explanation!!! Maybe should write code in pseudo code to demonstrate it but programming all day drains me and would like to try talking

It's okay - I think I *get* your idea now but let me just check - it is basically an "escrow" account which requires a majority vote to move funds?

yes

do we have escrow accounts implemented?! wow I didn't know Embarrassed

So assuming we have such a script - what does it then *do* with its balance?

Is the idea that other txs will *instruct* it how to disperse its balance (maybe you could just tell me the "point" rather than the procedure)?

Yes. We can instruct how the balance will be disperse. The accounts that will decide how the balance will be managed will be fixed account addresses in the script and a condition if all accounts must "agree" or a % of them must agree or for certain transaction amount say 100nxt it will require X% to instruct" but for amounts higher it will require 100% to instruct.

So we have such an account that holds 10000NXT. Then we have in the script that only 4 accounts can instruct, these 4 accounts will be listed in the script. For transfers less than 100 we need 70% of the accounts to instruct for transfers above 100nxt we need 100% to instruct.
Then account 1, 2, 3 send instruction to the holding account to Send 50nxt To account Z and that's enough to complete a transaction for 50nxt from our main account to account Z.

I am sorry I suck in explanation!!! Maybe should write code in pseudo code to demonstrate it but programming all day drains me and would like to try talking haha

Edit: Sorry I just saw that you asked for the point. The point is that I am trying to make an account controlled by more than 1 person. So we can get as close to decentralized exchange as possible. Also if we can have an account controlled by instructions from other accounts we can have community funds controlled by few people etc..

Can an account be setup to be able to send NXT only when it receives same message from a combination of other accounts (3 in my example)?
If that's possible then is it possible to create the account with random generation password that password is not saved in the blockchain?

The "message" can only be another transaction - so I am not quite sure what you think can be achieved as any tx will be seen by the entire network.

Well that's fine that the message can be seen. If I am wasting your time please ignore me.

What I was thinking is:
We create an account with random passphrase, lets say address A.(if that's possible)
Create a script to allow the account with address A to transfer NXT when same messages from fixed number of account addresses are sent to that account A.
The addresses of these fixed accounts (say B,C,D) are listed in the script so if the account A received a message from an account address that is not part of the list of addresses it does nothing. If account A receives identical message from B and C and D (or maybe we can have a condition to be at least 2 of the accounts) then it does what the message suggests, i.e. Sent 10000 to account Z
This way we can have an account controlled from few people.

a use case script:
create an account by a number of people sending parts of the passphrase to account A (i.e. someone creates an account address and stores somehow that lets say 3 users will send parts of a passphrase for creating a new account)
after account A receives the expected parts of the passphrases (in this case 3) it creates a new account address B (based on the 3 passphrases in the example)
when users want to instruct account B to send NXT to another account they have to pass the 3 passphrases and same instruction in between the 3 of them, i.e. passphrase + Transfer 1000NXT to 43214321)

stupid? semi stupid?  Grin
