I'm getting a free one.  Unfortunately it seems they work only with mtgox?

Well and security... not sure if this will help me - I already use strong logging passwords,   problems that resulted in mtgox hacking where server side.

But it should help windows users and other users that also can not secure their computers Wink

Re: Is the Bitcoin falling ? DDOS breaks almost every major Pool

I do not agree solo mining must be bad.

Are people always more afraid of loss then thinking of possible extra profit? (afair studies say that yes, x2 more)

Look at it this way,  assume 2.6 GHash solo.
Assume diff doubling each month (same affect as +30% but easier calculations)

You will on avg. get a block once per month.
You have 50% to get a block in 30 days.

So in pool after a month you get 50 BTC, then 25 BTC, 12.5, 6.25, 3.12 = 96.8 BTC
after more month you would get close to 100 and then some pennies monthly.

So 100 BTC in 5 months in pool.
Solo, you have 50% chance to get in this time same 100 BTC or even 150 or perhaps 200 BTC.
Also you could get 250 or 300 is very lucky - but also you can get just 50 or even 0 if very unlucky.

Mining Solo is NOT less profitable at it does NOT mean you will get nothing - you may get nothing but you may also get much more then from pool, even +50% more is not that unlikely.

It is the risk of getting 0 BTC what scares people it seems.

Although, it would not be too surprising if the land of the free would deny yet another basic freedom to own citizens Wink

POLL: will you stay with mtgox
by

on 26/06/2011, 12:34:34 UTC
If looking at pool results,
keeping mind that the option of "Yes I will trade the same" is one, but options of type "No, I will trade less" are divided into at least 6 questions.

Re: Why are you going back to MtGox?
by

Before the security clusterfuck we where content with actually very good customer service (at least for us) at mtgox.

I think they deserve sort of second chance, but at same time now we know it is often not wise to place all your funds in one place - all eggs in one basket.

Some using other exchanges too is a good option.

Well no, but simply because I can acquire it by mining instead.

If I would not mine, I would consider buying some BTCs.

Re: deepbit taking over? is there any effort to keep track of invalidated blocks?
by
Batouzo
on 26/06/2011, 00:08:29 UTC
Hi,

as an increase in the invalid block count would be an indicator of a 51% take over scenario and as I have seen how eligius got 4/10 blocks invalidated recently I wonder if there is any effort taken to keep track of invalidated blocks?

In my opinion the block chain should generally be a block tree containing also the invalid blocks with the client being able to request the longest chain, only. With this data the block explorer should also keep track of those lost blocks to run forensic analysis on them later.

Opinions?

"eligius got 4/10 blocks invalidated recently"

Well, what about other pools?

after the first bitcoin website, forum, lobby organization, tv show etc...

the first bitcoins murder will come sooner or later.

maybe two businessmen have a serious disagreement on some business arrangement based on bitcoins transactions?

i have a hunch it will happen in tokyo though...

ENOUGH ALREADY with the mtgox threads.
