EU proposes stricter rules on Bitcoin, prepaid cards in terrorism fight
"The European Commission proposed on Tuesday stricter rules on the use of virtual currencies and prepaid cards in a bid to reduce anonymous payments and curb the financing of terrorism.

Virtual currency exchange platforms will have to increase checks on the identities of people exchanging virtual currencies, such as Bitcoin, for real currencies and report suspicious transactions."

uh, what does this have to do with bitcoin? it's everything to do with the crappy sites that deal with it. if another coin was top dog then it would fall when the same crappy sites failed too.

there's a new thing out called thinking things through. it's kinda cool. try it.
There are two tenable positions:
1. Only code is Bitcoin.
2. Everything -- from miners to user base to sites dealing with Bitcoin -- is Bitcoin.

(2) works for me, Bitcoin is meaningless without the people who gravitate to it and businesses built around it, that's what gives it value. That's what gives any currency its value. Pretty much what gives *everything* in the world its value. Including society, or a country.

A country could be technically great, but if the people who live there suck/are crooks (not the country's fault), if the stores are constantly empty because someone just robbed them (not their fault), if no one trusts each other (not their fault -- surrounded by crooks), if everything is crappy and old and broken because all the surrounding countries  (unjustly) hate your country (not your country's fault), what you got is a shit country; a shitty place to live.
Communism too is great on paper. Unworkable in real life. Go figure.

[...] It's a narative spun by Mike Hearn in an effort to bring down regulatory hellfire on me [...]

Am I the only one thinking this?

Like, what, my word wasn't good enough for you?
Would set a horrible precedent.
Next Lauda'll get all pouty and start demanding I take him at his word.

^BitcoinNewsMagazine, thanks.

So what then?
Is Bitcoin becoming a big fat large corporations where who has a big stash commands and who does not is not even heard?

I supposed bitcoin was different.
We all make mistakes.

Yes, Mr. Chop. But he himself hasn't commented or tweeted about this ergo it's still piffle.

Probably. Would only take a couple of tweets from major pool operators to dispel all these rumors.

I'm sure people have contacted pool operators by now. Any replies?

Etherium and Bitcoin? ETH is just crazy (though it did make its holders ten times richer this year), BTC is getting a bit long in the tooth & can't scale.
Don't understand why people would sit on either, when there are coins like http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/nem/

Are you arguing that the Miners are superior to the Devs here?

Superior to which devs, Core or Classic? Do you not see how the Miners' interests may be different from Blockstream's Core devs?

Do you not see that the Miner's future is contingent on the Core Devs continuing to work on Bitcoin into the future?
It is. If they keep trusting Core devs to do what they promised, they're gonna lose a shitload of money. And that's why this is happening right now.

You seriously think the Classic devs will be able to handle it all on their own?
Can't do much worse.

Do you really care about the future of Bitcoin, or do you just care about winning your sides argument?
Questions like this that are less than constructive. Why are you asking me this? How would my answering in the positive or negative alter the facts?

Utter bilge. Who is the person posting this and why haven't we seen a sudden uptake of Classic? I can't believe this tale has taken off on the basis of one post by some nobody.

You mean Jihan Wu? Bitmain ring any bells?
