Re: Is it true bitcoin will fall to the leve of $1800 or $1500 ?

I think the lowest value is set by the electricity cost of mining a bitcoin - that must be at least $1000.

Yes, I thought gold would shoot up but that doesn't seem to have happened. It looks like Bitcoin is at least partly being considered as a safe place to go atm, at least compared to the stock market.

Re: does mining cost affect btc price?
by

I think the mining cost sets the lowest value of Bitcoin, but the highest value depends entirely on market sentiment (which is why it varies so much). Because of the mining cost, though, I don't believe it can every go really low again (say $1000 or so).

Re: Only 21.000.000 Bitcoins in existance
by

A simple reason why Bitcoin will never go to $0 is because there are people out there that will snap up every last single one at a given price point (myself included). Keep that in mind next time you are in fear of $0 Bitcoin.
Or would the chain change difficulty to accustomed the new mining computers?
But that'll take 2 weeks. Most other coins update difficulty every block. BitCoin takes 2 weeks right?

That's right - not a perfect system, but it has worked pretty well so far.

If it's not Bitcoin it shouldn't be in this forum, it should be in the altcoins forum with all the other pretenders.

I run my mining rig off solar power. However, it still only takes 400W - that's hardly anything compared to the consumption of the average family home, half of which is wasted.

I think it's missing the point. Yes spending $3b might get you control of one currency - so everyone moves their money to another one. There are thousands of them. That's kind of the point, no-one can ever dominate all crypto even if in theory it's possible to dominate one.

Let’s hope this is reflected uber positively in the price & we see a bull run recommence. It’s been bloody & damn right horrible the last week or so.

I think it already is - I see it's on its way back up.

I think most people are in agreement here - the OP is wrong. Bitcoin often dips at the start of the year, now is not the time to sell. HODL and you will make money this year.

Re: Mining earnings are terrible, I'm shutting down for a while
by
BelieveInBitcoin

I think a better way of working it out would be to use an average daily profit to work out what would be more profitable rather than an arbitrary number of coins that way it could be used for multiple coins, so in this scenario for the mining option it would be $15 per day @ same cost. So anything over $11.50 per day profit better to mine than buy, and you will also have a mining rig left over at the end of the year to continue mining with. But as you said with the other variables to factor in its near impossible to predict coin prices or difficulty increases.

I'd put it this way. Each day from mining I get £4.50 but pay £1.50 in electricity. So it's like buying crypto, and I can choose what coin I want to buy, except for every £4.50 of crypto I pay just £1.50. What's not to love?!
