Ethereum invested almost 100 million dollars in developing in only one year. They planned to go above that sum in next year, but the bear market did its thing.
But nevertheless, if some coin invests half of that money then we should not worry about the price.

I believe in altcoins and a new coins and tokens. It will clear out in a next few years. Those who have a good product will go close to the top.
We can see bitcoin as a gold if we compare it to the fiat system.Bitcoin is not necessarily a bad thing.

Looks like hackers don't sleep. Watch out everyone, because some coins are stolen from MEW.

Shameful. How this useful site can get hacked?

They didn't get hacked, but public Google DNS got compromised. Their addresses 8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4. were down in some parts of the world, not sure if they still are. An attacker hacked into those addresses and pointed MEW domain name to a different IP. That is how when people opened even their bookmarked MEW URL, they went to a compromised IP and when they entered their private key, the hacker snatched it (because it was entered into his own server). The certificate should have warned people from doing so (because the certificate was missing and was not green), but it is easy to be a smart now, when things are over.

I'm checking that green url and I have Cryptonite, which is a great help.
Very dangerous setup from hackers. Thanks for explanation.

21.000 nodes Jeez...
Well, this is the next logical move in development in any coin. A problem in today's coins are obvious and it's preventing them to be widely adopted. Ethereum is going to give us some of this in the summer I think or at least it is just a plan to release it in the summer.

Nothing will happen. We can have many cases like this one and still, nothing will happen, but if one case gets the media attention that could influence something on someone.

What else could people expect? Such things are not fair, but they will remain it this form or another.
This is not the first time on Facebook or other platforms and I'm sure it won't be the last. Everyone who uses it should be aware of it.

You can't stop the internet, so baning will not be 100% bulletproof. It is a good try, but t is still a try not the success.
I don't like to hear this, but one day they will lose control.

One guy can't change the whole system. The best example is Obama and Trump. Even there is a big difference between these two the politics remain the same. The system is so powerful that presidents can't change much. NRA or national rifle association is very powerful and they can't change laws much which are related to weapons.

Re: Russia Eyes Summer Deadline for New Cryptocurrency Laws
by
Benkortan
on 02/03/2018, 20:35:09 UTC
Russia has already lost a good number of years, due to the opposition of the authorities towards crypto. This is tragic, because many of the best crypto developers are Russians and many of them had to emigrate to other countries during the past few years. Many of the crypto ventures also had to shift their operations outside Russia.

This is the truth. They didn't recognize it in the early phase, look Buterin and other examples.
But other countries missed the early phase too. Russia will catch up if they do things aggressively.

Re: do i have to pay tax on bitcoins ?
by
Benkortan
on 02/03/2018, 20:27:19 UTC
Currently, you do not pay taxes for bitcoin. But if governments have accepted bitcoin as an investment market, they may be able to control and collect taxes, but this is very difficult. Since this is a virtual currency market it is difficult to verify and tax someone
100% wrong. Currently, and since bitcoin's inception, taxes are owed in almost every jurisdiction on Earth. In the U.S. you owe on all capitol gains and you may have to pay income tax if you were paid for work in bitcoin.

Seems logical. I can't buy 10 Lamborghinis in one year with my average salary.
Someone will ask me how I get it.

I have tried it, but I don't need it right now. Monero is a very good choice for private transactions.
Monero and other privacy coins will be more popular in future.

Re: Are Bitcoins taxable?
by
Benkortan
on 02/03/2018, 19:14:01 UTC
This is an old thread, but it's still going on.
How can I prove IRS my income if I have staked (POS) my coins in my wallet.
Bank and exchange statements maybe would be ok, but what about transactions in my wallet.
The IRS is able to see your transactions, so can anyone via the blockchain. They use advance chain analysis tools to figure out who is who. However the bank statements, credit card transactions, etc. is what they will use to prove tax evasion. Not a penny goes through a bank without accounting for it.
Basically if you make any profit in America, ANY PROFIT AT ALL OF ANY KIND, you owe taxes. In bitcoin it is capitol gains you owe on the appreciation of value. There is no question about this. It is clearly defined by the IRS.

Thanks man for the info. That was very helpful. I was not aware of that. Sorry but I don't have sMerits, you deserved it.
I guess I will need to read more about taxation as I gain more coins and value.
