Yes it is one of the better options out there, I've used it since about 2020

I'm not sure if they still do it, but If you contact support they will give you a nifty curl link to install the Linux version which ran pretty stable last time I tried it.

I think he just wants to stop and resume mining without shutting down or turning off the miner itself.

There is or was a command line tool which I think Avalon added to the cgminer codebase called "cgminer-api" which you could then run api commands against an running instance of cgminer, and as long as you had your config file setup with the API access turned on you could then tell it to stop, start, pause, change pool etc, using the standard Cgminer commands.

Its even listed in Linux but you have to install cgminer through apt to get it.


Dunno what that does to any existing cgminer you have running on that machine but if you are installing it on a separate box that you will use to control your miner or miners then it should be ok.

I don't know the codebase or anything so YMMV kano might know something about the command line app itself.

The scam side of it seems to be more to do with the fact they offer cloud mining contracts and we all know how they can go.

It's gonna be the pool that ends up censoring the transactions surely? Individual miners, or even large farms of miners aren't going to give a fuck about what transactions go in where, they just want the maximum reward for spending all that money on equipment and electricity right?

If it was up to the invdividual miners, say if there are 1000 miners 50% of them could not accept a midgetpornmeme transaction and 50% could, or even if there is one pool that doesn't accept a particular transcation but another 4 pools do, I mean whats changed?

So the pools going to end up doing it, but will it make any difference, and if not why bother doing it unless its just to promote your own pool/code/software and cut some extra profit somewhere on the side for yourself as a company.

$0.31 a day after electricty is obviously caculated using the electricity price of 12c/kw, try put 0.06 $/kw in the box at the top of the page, most mining companies or hosted miners will be paying that or even less.

Whats interesting is the KS miners didn't scale very well to lower electricty costs, I think the top one only went up by $3 a day, wheras the BTC miners were very sensitive to it. The S19 XP Hyd for example going from $0.83 to $8.56 per day.

@op They say they have malware because they are associated with or have downloads of cgminer on them and some web filters eroneously consider any site with miner software downloads is a trojan/virus/compromised site.

With regards to small pools, of course the variance is directly related to the hashrate of the pool, so the more people mine there the less the variance affects the outcome.

Some people are super sensitive to variance, even on large pools, they jump ship when there is a run of bad luck.

Using these smaller pools and boosting their hashrate may be a good way of getting around the larger pools becoming more and more restrictive with sign-up requirements and lack of anonymity.

Anyone had experience of the Gekkoscience USB hub slowly losing ports then just dying?

Mine started losing ports a few months back, but as I only have 3 stick miners on it I just moved them around thinking it was the miners but they worked for a while on the other ports.

Then a few weeks ago none of the ports seem to work with miners in them, the fan port still provides power, and the other ports light up the miners, but as soon as cgminer loads up it loses contact with the miners.

Its a 2019 version been running off the 6pin PSU connector all these years with no issues, then just gone.

You should only need 8333 forwarded, 3333 is an outgoing port for connecting to the pool, nothing should be coming into your network on that port unless you run a pool.

Sounds like you might have a double NAT problem if your modem is providing NAT and your Asus router is doing the same the incoming packets will get lost along the way.

This is getting into trickier network configuration than I would like to troubleshoot on a forum, but you need to either switch the isp's router into bridge or modem only mode, or put the asus in the DMZ on the ISPs router, or remove the ISP router and replace it with the Asus (if the Asus has the capability to do that), or remove the ASUS from the equation altogether if it can't.

If you have everything locked down on the ISP modem/router then I don't see why you would need the Asus to do the same thing.

Then try and telnet stratum.kano.is 3333
(type quit to exit if you get a connection)

That will troubleshoot your miners network access to the pool.

Oh the only other thing I think is that kano might only allow futurebit miners on the solo part, so you might have to convert your account to a solo one to actually mine, but you can try the above troubleshooting steps with any other pool like ckpool or ViaBTC

Have you tried any other pools?

I know that the FutureBit Apollo doesn't supoort Asicboost, and there is some sort of requirement for it in the Stratum V1-V2 proxy software they devopled. What I don't know is if they are using the proxy at slushpool oops Braiins pool 

I'd try another standard pool, maybe kano or ckpool or viabtc and see if it works there.

Whether you will make a profit or not you will have to do the calculations yourself.

Difficulty you face is there is nothing to verify, no mainnet blocks found on either of the pools known to run your code.

I'm impressed that you coded a pool from scratch, and understand the catch 22 you are in trying to get people to use your pools whilst not having any proof they actually work.

Just pointing out your clever sounding catch phrase rings a bit hollow, no offence intended
