Most of my bitcoins are stored on a PC using MultiBit Classic that's kept offline except when I update it.  My question is will this wallet still work after the split or should I import the private keys into Electrum?  Any thoughts guys?

Yes, I'm running 220V to keep the amps down.

Also bought some of these for a good price.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-APC-AP9571-Basic-Rack-PDU-Power-Distribution-Unit-4-Network-Server-Switch-/201977347893?epid=1801033606&hash=item2f06c9bf35:g:~-8AAOSwjRpZXNT1

Got 2 of them for $34.  Keep an eye out for a deal on those.

Thanks for the answer--is there anything Bitcoin-related that I could do with this hardware?

Is it anything more than a paperweight now?

Yes, sell it on ebay for a few sheckles and put that money toward either a modern day asic miner or a GPU miner.

It seems like the most popular PSU's are Corsair, EVGA, and the HP server ones.  I love the Corsair HX1200i's.

Honestly I liked the old layout a little bit better, but I can deal with the new layout.

When they took auto-refresh away, that was a big disappointment.  Could they please please bring auto-refresh back?

Nvidia GPU's.  Cheesy  GTX 1060 or GTX 1070.  I personally go with the GTX 1070's.  Less playing around with BIOS flashing as well.

Back reading this thread is pretty cool, on page 16, haha.

In the mean time I have a question. Can I get away with 4gb of ram on a mining rig?

Asus z270ar
i3 6100
(2) Asus FE 1080ti
Evga GC 850

Or would 8gb be prefered?

I use 4GB of RAM in all of my rigs.  I do bump up virtual memory to at least 16GB though.

Re: Garage cooling - anyone mining in the garage over the summer?
by

I moved my operation to the garage. I had an electrician install 240v twist lock, and am running my rigs off of that.

I have also installed a whole-house window exhaust in the window about 5 feet away from the rigs. I have installed a security gate over the window, since it will be open 24/7, and a security camera. I am in a safe neighborhood, so probably overkill. Anyone that wanted to break in would also have to take out the fan somehow, since it is now mounted permanently in the window.

I need to setup a fan on the other side of the garage as a intake fan so that all the air flows in one direction.

I'm actually looking at putting a powerful fan in my mining room window.  I'm running regular box fans at the moment.  Do you have any pictures of the fan you have?  Or a link perhaps?  I'd appreciate it.

Even if they do offer this to the small farm/hobbyist, I don't think this would be too popular.  The resale value on these would be terrible, especially with that 3 month warranty.  An aside note as well, I love building mining rigs myself.  I love playing around with new computer hardware and being able to have it pay for itself and even make a profit.

Anyway, these really do only make sense for larger farms.  If I was a larger farm with not alot of time to spare, buying prebuilt miners is the way to go.

I'm going to have two 30-amp breakers run to two 30-amp L6-30 outlets.  As far as tools to measure usage, I'm not sure.  But the amps a rig takes at 120v is cut in half when put on 240v.  I think I'll just use a killawatt to measure a rigs amp draw at 120v and then plug the rig into the 240v.  That's the only solution I have right now to estimate amp draw on 240v.

You'll need C13 to C14 cables.  I have the 14AWG (gauge) ones.  Business rackmount servers come with these as well as the standard cables.  My dad's business had a bunch of extra ones.

I was going through the same troubles as you trying to figure out the proper electrical setup.

This link really helped me figure out what I needed. Cheesy

A PDU will allow you to plug multiple rigs into an outlet.  If you have an L6-30 type outlet, look at the APC AP9571.  These can be had for a great price on eBay.  I ordered 2 of them from eBay a couple weeks ago.

I agree with the comments above, plus the RX 470 used to be had for around $175.  They were a real bargain that produced good hash rates.

If you treat it right, you'll get a couple of years out of it before the fans start getting noisy.  Luckily, most of the newer cards have easier fans to replace than in previous years.

The domed electrolytics are probably bad, I used to fix TV's before they became throw away items and one way you could tell if the electrolytics were bad was if they were bulged out.  Version 006 are quite a bit better than version 005 risers as well.

One of the reasons we like stock GPU's is that they have a resale value, they can be used for gaming or what not after we are done with them.  Look at the outdated ASIC's, they are mainly boat anchors.  My old 280x's from the last round of mining from a couple years ago sold recently for $100+ dollars each.

I have 2 HX1200i's and I use the default settings which is multi-rail.  You have a good power supply there.  I haven't had any problems with mine.  I run mine with a constant 1000w load.
