Jason King, founder of Sean's Outpost, is running across America from Miami to San Francisco to raise money for the homeless.

Jason left Miami on Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the North American Bitcoin Conference, and is scheduled to arrive in Orlando on Friday January 31.

BitPay is hosting a welcome party for Jason in Downtown Orlando at Church Street starting at 5:30 pm on Friday. The bus should arrive around 5:45 and will stay parked on Church Street all night long, during the Orlando Magic home game. Jason should be arriving on foot sometime between 5:45 and 6:15 pm.

Help support Jason in his run for Bitcoin Across America by welcoming him to Orlando. Meet at Don Jefe's Tequila bar at 41 W Church Street and look for the big yellow bitcoin bus.

Re: 2013-09-16: BitPay surpasses 10,000 merchants, adds QuickBooks support
by

on 17/09/2013, 20:42:25 UTC
The Quickbooks support is the killer app here.  The articles almost bury the lead.

Along with Quickbooks integration you get the whole basket of compliance regimes that every small business needs in order to feel very confidant that they are going to be able to use Bitcoin just like all their other payment methods without any new headaches.

They get GAAP, they get clear unit of account, they get tax compliance, they get a way for their accounting to accommodate it without doing any extra technical stuff.
The merchants want to focus on the things that make their business a success.  Keeping their inventory fresh, providing great service, being awesome at what they do whatever that is.  This provides them the opportunity to do that rather than deal with the arcane ephemera of Bitcoin issues.

Thanks!  We will be promoting this very shortly.  But yes, making the merchant's accountant happy with Bitcoin will  make things much easier for businesses looking to accept bitcoin.

You can set prices in USD (or any of 30 other currencies) and choose to be notified of a sale after 0, 1, or 6 confirmations.

Payment Processors are not Money Transmitters.  The IRS has confirmed that time and time again, and so have the states.

http://blog.bitpay.com/2013/03/how-fincen-guidelines-affect-bitpay.html

Payment Processors have their own rules with the IRS and those are what BitPay follows.

So chill out, and thank BitPay for their contribution (it's not selfless, but keep in mind they need Bitcoin to be a success for their business to run).

BitPay cannot grow to 100x our size now without bitcoin being able to grow and scale with us.  Jeff is a great developer and can help work on the scaleability issues that bitcoin needs to meet the demands.

Just a warning to fellow non-profits who have provided documentation, it looks like our status may have been switched to merchant, so fees are now erroneously incurred.

This may have happened when we reduced the fees from 2.69% to 0.99%.  if there are fees on your account please open a support ticket at support@bitpay.com and make sure you include the email address registered on your bitpay account.

ATLANTA -- May 14, 2013 -- BitPay Inc, the world’s leading payment processor for bitcoin, announces it has hired Bitcoin core-developer Jeff Garzik. Jeff has been working part-time on Bitcoin for the past three years, contributing to the core Bitcoin protocol, while he worked full-time for Red Hat in North Carolina. The job at BitPay will allow him to work full-time on Bitcoin, BitPay, and related open-source projects to benefit the Bitcoin community.

“BitPay recognizes the need for more resources and developments in the core Bitcoin protocol, especially in the areas of scalability and reliability,” says Tony Gallippi, co-founder and CEO of BitPay. “We strongly encourage other Bitcoin companies to do the same, either through crowdfunding efforts or direct contracts, grants, or scholarships.”

That 1% you get back at the end of the year on your credit card is denominated in a currency that has over 10% yearly loss in value.

I can tell you that the guys from GYFT are very happy with the sales they are getting from bitcoin!  I will have some stats from the first week of launch for my presentation at the Bitcoin Conference.

if you continue to find bugs please let them know.  They have been extremely responsive to adding the "buy a card (for yourself)" option and other fixes.

We are fine.  We have already moved nearly all of our trading off Gox, because we max out their monthly limits in 5 days.  All of the exchanges we use are fully operational with no delays in trading or withdrawals.

Send reporters my way. I can set them straight. I usually spend 90% of the conversation helping them correctly understand Bitcoin.

Guys like Maxim at FoxNews got it right after about 20 minutes on the phone.

Re: How does BitPay handle price volatility?
by
BitPay Business Solutions
on 29/03/2013, 12:55:32 UTC
when the invoice is created, the rate is locked in for 15 minutes.  So buyers and merchants do not assume any volatility as long as the transaction can be paid within the time window.  This allows commerce to take place in a volatile market, with no risk to the merchant of the volatility.  BitPay assumes the risk for up to 15 minutes.  Although most people pay within the first 1-2 minutes, so the risk window is shorter.
