Re: URGENT ADVICE NEEDED - MINING ANTMINER NEW SEA SHORE
by

I live in a very humid area and there is nothing I can do about humidity for my miners. However, I think S9s are protected against corrosion, as the only rusty parts on my miners are the grates for the fans.

I think you will be ok

I'd say put the majority of your money into ASIC miners but build a few GPU miners, if only for the experience and the possibility that they will be a lot better in the future

Re: Do u install some safety device to shut off miners if the room overheats?
by

on 23/10/2017, 23:44:13 UTC
My cooling is basically a big box fan. If the box fan were to malfunction or trip, my room would overheat quickly and my miners will overheat too. I know the miners have overheat protection but is that good enough?
Does the antminer switches itself off completely when that happens or goes into some standby mode where it is still turned on?
I would hope it turns itself off completely as I might not realize it for hours...

So, do u guys install an electrical device (a contactor or something) to switch off the power if the box fan were to fail?
A fail-safe as u could say.

A surge protection device is necessary in case of lightning strikes.
Is there anything else to install?
The miner will automatically stop mining, and hopefully, your fan would be reliable to where this wouldn't be an issue.
There would be no point in putting a fail-safe.
You should definitely install a surge protector.

Is your pool showing low hashrates? If your pool says that is it getting 13 or 14 TH/s, then it doesn't matter what your Antminer says its getting.

For me, and 800W PSU is just fine for all my miners. But, you should be perfectly fine with a 1000W PSU.

Currently, I have 4, and all together they are less profitable than a single S9. But, with the upcoming Bitcoin Gold, they might become a lot more profitable, but there is no way to tell yet.

Oh yeah and for 1, you would make probably somewhere around less than $100 USD per month depending on what cards you use.

That is the goal of Bitcoin Gold. They want to make it ASIC proof so that only GPUs can Mine it. I definitely will try it out when it comes out.

From what I hear it's virtually impossible to mine profitably any more (unless you have access to free electricity).
This is not true at all. I am getting multiple hundreds of dollars off of a single Antminer alone with $.1 electricity cost.

What are the processes of bitcoin mining? What are the tools needed?
You should get an Antminer S9. If you need help setting it up, you can check my blog  Wink

P.S. I do not recommend newbie to jump into mining. This is game for big investors.
I disagree. I think newbies should definitely try mining but start small with 1 Antminer.
I can see your point, but you could put it in a garage and not worry about it.

I would love to disagree with myself as well (I'm also supporter of: more miners = better decentralization = safer network).
But I have seen so many newbies invested in this and then being surprised "how come my miner is making half of what did few weeks ago" etc.

My point was: do some investigation first. Calculate possible profits, estimate ROI time, evaluate risks ... and based on this decide whether it's worth it (rather than just jump in)

I agree with that. New people definitely need to do research. When I started, I had no experience but I did do plenty of research. I misunderstood your original question.

try other software free online although i cant trust any of those
cause we dont know whats on the code
but the more good thing to do is to hire or ask your family or brother to check it once in a while
I think you can trust things like claymore, as it is used by thousands of people, and I think you can view the code. Also, you can use your pool to check on it. most pools have a monitoring feature.

I highly doubt that that would make you any money, as it just isn't powerful enough. The only way to reliably mine bitcoin is with an Antminer or a custom built computer. Also, most cloud mining services are a scam, FYI.

Almost everybody here mines Bitcoin. I mine Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, and LBRY.
Bitcoin is probably the most profitable. If you want to mine, you should pick up an Antminer
