Re: Liquidate 100+ BTC to USD in the States - Cheapest Way?

Hi guys,

What's the best way to sell 100+ bitcoins, in a period of, say 1 month?

It seems like most of exchanges doesn't allow withdraw for people the the State anymore.

Localbitcoin seems to too slow, online transaction with strangers are too risky..

Selling on an exchange and withdraw to offshore account seem to be a good option, but still tricky to get the money back to the State.

Any thoughts?

Just hypothetical, I don't have 100+ btc  Grin

Bitstamp and kraken allow people to withdraw to the US and both can easily handle 100 btc of volume and it happens all the time.

There is also Gemini which I've never tried but is supposedly getting more and more popular.

I am in a similar situation; I want to turn a meaningful number of bitcoins (low 6 digits worth) into fiat so I can pay taxes and diversify a little bit out of crypto. I didn't realize selling bitcoin for fiat and getting that fiat into an FDIC insured institution would be so challenging. For me so far, it's been so very challenging.

If you are a U.S. resident (I am) and want to make a fiat withdrawal, stay away from Kraken. I'm having a horrible experience with them trying to make such withdrawals. Believe me, stay away from there. I now need to buy back bitcoins and withdraw that way and then figure out my next move. They went let me fiat withdraw, not even one red cent.

I'm still trying to figure out where to go instead. Coinbase and Gemini are not available to me, because of the state I live in.

I am looking into Genesis -- Barry Silbert's company. Supposedly they are geared toward institutional and bigger volume players; their transaction minimum is $25,000. I spoke to someone on the phone there and asked about withdrawing fiat into the six figures and he said, no problem. You can call them and they will pick up the phone. That's worth something. However, (i) you can only trade during normal NYC working hours, & (ii) I'm trying to sign up and am running into significant website non-responsiveness glitches. Hopefully, this is just an isolated issue. I'll soon find out. I have not done business there yet, but I'm gonna try and see how it goes.

@Kraken-Septimus

I 'm still wainting for my account to be closed and to get back my coins back. Change my email account otherwise.
8 months of waiting.

You should complain to whoever has control over letting them operate. If they are acting as irresponsible custodians of your money, you should complain to authorities. I having a nightmare situation with Kraken myself. Would have never guessed, but if they don't get it resolved with me, I will consider taking up my complaints with federal authorities, my congressmen and senators, the congressmen and senators where Kraken is located, state regulators, and state politicians where I'm located and where Kraken operates. Kraken, as a custodian of other people's money, has a very high duty of care to act responsibly. Based on my first hand experience and what I'm reading on these boards, they simply have not and are not.
