Re: Will the bubble burst?

Nope. But is was predictable. Kinda funny reading through the thread now. I think price drop will halt at $20-$50 which for me feels like an reasonable value. Bad news for everyone who thought that buying btc for $150 was a good idea.

make sense, the last bubble looked the same except there was one zero missing at the end of all numbers. so maybe in 1.5 years we'll see the bubble bursting at 2500 usd falling back to 600 usd?

Yes, bitcoins don't exist as a separate entity, what exists are just transactions (transfer bitcoin amount x from a to b), so the amount is just an arbitrary number. In the current implementation it can be represented by 8 digits after the decimal, so the smallest possible ammount is 0.000000001 btc (= 1 satoshi)

I'm pretty sure nobody sees a bubble *ironic wink*, however I don't think this is relevat from a long term perspective. Whatever happens, I am pretty sure the price will be higher than now in 2 years.
Last bubble 2 years back peaked at around 30 usd.

There is a substantial delay, not everybody who wants to buy can do so, it takes time to set up everything (transfer cash to mtgox or everywere else), so the bubble doesn't even expand as fast as possible. I mean I'm desperatly waiting for it to burst, but now I think it might even cross 300 USD.

If you are interested long term, I'd just buy at regular intervals regardles of price. (i.e. 100 USD every week). That way you get the average price over the year

@kapolani: what country are you from? there are a lot of regional exchanges where you buy from some other private guy- the BTCs is in escrow and you have to transre money to his bank account. That way the transaction should be done in 1-2 days within EU.

I bought my coins with MtGox but that was 2 years ago.. BitInstant also seems to be very popular. Other than that, there is still the possibility to buy and sell some stuff for bitcoins (for example, sell your old laptop or something Wink ).

If you time scope is 1 year+ I'd split the orders up and buy once a day/week. That way you get the average price over the year which is fair. This reduces the risk of buying high and loosing a lot (but of course also takes the chance of buying low).

Setup an account at Mt.Gox and you can just buy tiny amounts of bitcoins every day. Good luck!
