Re: Coinwallet continues its giveaway/spam by revealing hundreds of private keys

Tried on Mycelium and it went into sync mode for wayyy too long, and not sure if it ever would.  So for anyone that did this, disable all network connections and delete that account.  It is not worth the small amount, but this is worth watching and a very nicely done experiment by Coinwallet.eu.  I'm not even mad.

Lol those priv keys are wallet crashers. Their UTXO is so large most wallets won't handle it and just crash, not to speak of web wallets.

+1

Yes, this could end up being epic.

Based on my time here roughly 99% of people posting charts have literally no idea what they are doing & it's more often than not just what they want to happen.
They then go ahead & make a bull shit chart to try & convince themselves it'll happen.

Who are the successful/professional traders here?
I'd like to interview a few for a series. Obviously 'I once made $100 in a bubble' doesn't count.
TERA, but he's not around anymore.

How do you know he or she was successfull trader?? I remember she or he was wrong many times, which i believe is the reason why she or he is not posting anymore

There is no such thing as a "successful" trader. There are traders who may go well one day and bad at another. Whoever claims for his/her error-less abilities he/she may as well claim the title of the bigger liar as well. I personally suck at trading. I must classify myself to the worst trader around; that's why I'm a perma-hodler ever since. Smiley

I am right there with you.  Just wanted to throw in S3052.  He has been doing BTC analysis for quite a while.

Re: Bullish news: 300 - 900 million stolen from banks by malware

Its not bullish. They are protected by the government. In contrast all those who lost at Bter have lost it for ever.

But on other hand, government gets money from people. so innocent people payed this bank loss. Not bankers and no those that kept money in bank. You find it fair?

So, when hackers steal $100 million the people are insured and get their money back.  But, the $100 million from the bank just gets written off as stolen.  So they print billions, create even more through credit, and then write it off and just replace it when it gets stolen?  Wont last forever.

Think about it like music.  It is still created by humans, but is turned into digital form for humans ease of use.  Same with money.  It will always be created by humans, but we are just seeing our money go digital in a safe way for the first time in history.

Re: Bitcoin is Rat Poison! A Message from Warren Buffet
by

Distinguished gentlemman, this is Warren Buffet, the millionaire investor. I have been watching the bitcoin market since last year, and have warned you that it was a mirage! I told you it was rat poison.

Do not invest in bitcoin! The price is going nowhere but down. Only invest in markets that provide real utility. Bitcoin does not offer any utility, and is nothing more than a glorified digital token.

You have been warned since $680! Cut your losses now, or regret it later!

Warren buffet is a billionaire you stupid sack of shit.

He also simply does not invest in tech.  He admitted this himself.  He only invests in what he understands, and I think he is doing ok.  Money flowing into bitcoin could be flowing out of his investments at some point...just a guess.

This reminds me of something else a Good old iceland drop
But since it actually involves bitcoin this is a neat idea

Scheduled to take place on 14th March, 2015, The Bit Drop will feature an island-wide party boasting ‘celebrities, musicians and supporters of bitcoin’, as well as education booths and free giveaways. The event will also coincide with Pi Day, an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi).

I will remember to check how this turned out when 3.14 Comes out seems like a good day to coincide with a Bitcoin holiday since they both are circular and they are getting a small piece of the Bitcoin Pi xd

Re: Time to face the truth and cash out while it's still worth something

Bitcoin is a little toy that's been played out

Unless you've been here since the single digits, I don't think you have the authority to make such claims.

as someone who has been here since sub single digits, it is possible to get stuck in one's own little echo chamber.

but when i step back and look at the progress since i first learned about Bitcoin, the only change i see is massive progress.  it's come further, faster than i ever expected.  and it's still only 2014, with my outer bound time limit being 2020.

1.  protocol still intact w/o a major hack or bust
2.  mining security still growing exponentially-makes me calm and happy.
3.  significant merchant adoption beyond expectations with Dell, DISH, Overstock, Expedia being great examples.  and there are more coming.  and they WILL begin offering discounts to lure buyers.
4.  record # wallets-blockchain.info >2M
5.  numerous positive news articles all over the world of adoption successes.  this protects against a major adversary like the US gubmint.
6.  derivatives exchanges beginning to be established to provide greater liquidity and depth (gotta be careful about this to prevent naked shorting, but still overall a positive).
7.  ASIC mining companies pushing the limits of 20nm and lower tech.  soon Intel and AMD will follow.
8.  improvements in wallet security.  i don't understand how ppl keep getting hacked.  i've never lost a coin. Roll Eyes
9.  certain gubmints lightening up and looking more positively on Bitcoin unlike the NY clowns.  places like Switzerland, UK, Singapore, etc.  The discord will guarantee that Bitcoin flourishes somewhere.
10.  gold and silver faltering-a move of just 5% out of that market into Bitcoin will jack the price.
11.  stock mkt potentially topping-i think problems in the real economy will help Bitcoin with flows seeking safety.
12.  bond mkts at all time highs-if we get a rise in interest rates, same thing.  5% of flows from there into Bitcoin will jack the price.
13.  forex mkts-largest mkt of all with only one direction for the future values of all fiat-->DOWN.  5% flow from that mkt will jack the price.
14.  real estate starting to suffer again-avg Joe looking for yield no where to be found except maybe Bitcoin. it is The People's Money after all.
15.  halving of the block reward 2 yrs out.  we'll probably get a huge rally as that draws near.  now's the time to buy when others are selling.  they'll be back for sure.

I could not have said it better.  In fact most days I am speechless as to how far this "experiment" has come.

Indeed I do remember it quite well. It was handled in a good manner.
That was a long late night of staring at blocks being mined.  Slight panic set in, but it was one of the great roller-coaster rides of Bitcoin.

Because despite popular opinion on this board, "news" isn't what drives bitcoin prices, and it never has been.

News most certainly affected this market in the past.
It absolutely did.  The "news" still has to have an affect, it is just not as obvious as is was before.

I think big investors have already looked past general news that some people think is big news like Dell.

There is a lot bigger stuff happening to bitcoin behind closed doors.

Credit cards solve this too. Problem if you lose the card you need to pay a fee to make a new one.

And once I lost 10 fiats, only to found then some months later in some pant

Agreed, but a slight inconvenience when shopping with such a card, and I mean in a supermarket, it takes too long, no joke. A line literally forms waiting a few minutes for the transaction to get confirmed, I would only use it in dire situations.

Cards?  Try cash.  I had to explain to the cashier for 20 minutes that they didn't give me the correct change.  I felt like an idiot arguing for that long.  I literally had to do the math on a piece of paper(change from a $50) for them to get it.

With Bitcoin I could have just sent the exact amount.

This might help.  Looks like he might have been warning you?  1brain = GoodGuy bitcoin stealer lol.

From: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7365663

Perhaps this comment will start a good discussion, or maybe people won't like it because I'm one of the thieves mentioned. I'm the owner of the 1brain7kAZxPagLt2HRLxqyc3VgGSa1GR address.

First, for those curious, the passphrases of the wallets taken from so far:

19JsLFDRxuTsAjapE79FgoVNdNdB2hNU5M - "alfanumerico" (0.36875 BTC)

1PQiixL1SyytXoUGFBGA5ptW9uTjsBrdhX - "emergency" (0.00085 BTC)

1CqRJYoztkWifUYadFg13MHdmECx6uEdy7 - "butterfly" (0.00025 BTC)

16ga2uqnF1NqpAuQeeg7sTCAdtDUwDyJav - "password" (0.00085 BTC)

1HZwkjkeaoZfTSaJxDw6aKkxp45agDiEzN - "" (0.474972 BTC)

1HoSFymoqteYrmmr7s3jDDqmggoxacbk37 - "hello" (0.000555 BTC)

1C7zdTfnkzmr13HfA2vNm5SJYRK6nEKyq8 - "correct horse battery staple" (0.243762 BTC)

1JwSSubhmg6iPtRjtyqhUYYH7bZg3Lfy1T - "correct horse battery staple" (0.000079 BTC)

The implementation isn't particularly exciting. I have a PostgreSQL database containing a single `address' table storing (address, privKey, passphrase). Of course, the passphrase doesn't actually need to be stored, but I kept it around to satisfy my own curiosity. I run a modified bitcoind client that checks each transaction it hears about (in CTxMemPool::accept) to see if any of the outputs are in my database. If they are, a transaction is created, signed and broadcast to send the same number of BTC (minus fees) to 1brain7kAZxPagLt2HRLxqyc3VgGSa1GR.

I just wanted to point out that, when I started this, it was not for financial gain. I simply saw it as a fun and interesting exercise about the Bitcoin protocol. I wanted to see if I was capable to "winning the race" -- trust me when I say there are loads of people out there "mining" brainwallets, and whosever transaction is included in a block first tends to win and get the Bitcoin. I never expected to gain over 1 BTC, I think I got rather lucky. My database contains 19,412,020 passphrases (mostly single passwords, actually) which all came from various wordlists I found online. I consider this to be a fairly small dictionary, based on what I've read about other people doing the same thing. I originally had plans to make the database much bigger, however I've since moved onto other projects.

I'm happy to answer questions if people have any. There's a signed version of this comment at http://pastebin.com/s29kk2bb, which you can verify (rather ironically) at http://brainwallet.org/#verify.
