Re: What are your temps today?

Originally I was going to build a sound proofed tunnel with a big exhaust fan out the wall. I thought I'd try this out and seems to have done the trick. That being said, I wish I would have put the outlets on the other side of the room and closer to the window. So far so good!

Hopefully these links work:

Correct, with proper exhausting though! OP you should post some pictures of your setup!

I've tried one drive and Google links and they keep getting distorted once they land in the post about being suspicious. I looked in the help section to no avail. Sorry.

Thx for the replies! The ducting just got done last weekend because it was like a sauna in there. The ac unit is new too. I was really just hoping to remove the humidity and the little cooler air was a bonus. It's actually pretty comfortable now that the hot air is directed outside. For those that have been through a summer, is there a direct correlation between outside temp and the chip temp? For example, those same chips would be 94/92/94 once we hit 100F? What did you see last summer? I remember there being about a 20 degree difference this winter.

What are your temps today?

I'm running 6 S9s in an out building ducting each fan individually vented outside with a 6" duct. I also have a 12,000btu ac unit cooling the room. Today it's 90F outside temp. The chip chip temps are pretty consistent mid 70s on 4 of them, but 2 are showing chain6-84 chain7-82 chain8-84. I was curious what temps you all are running now that summer is approaching?

I started with Antpool and I feel the mountain and valleys is something with their network. There was no reason for more hashrate to drop like that all day. I switched the slush and my hashrate has been very consistent for the last week. I have seen a couple slight dips that didn't last long but not the jagged fall off the mountain drops all day like antpool.

yeah kano seems like a good switch imo. I have just been testing out pools and seeing what works best. Theres a lot of options out there, gotta do proper research man.
How do you like kano?  I moved from antpool to slush.  Been doing okay for my 1st 2 weeks on slush pool but the earnings have dropped way down.  Is it due to the drop in price of bitcoin?

Trust me, you have to spend at least a month to get rewarded. And those rewards are huge. I've been on Slush since Nicehash went down, we were averaging 20 blocks a day at less than 1 Eh/s, but the pool has doubled in hash power within a month but mining 18 blocks on average. Or less!!! See here: https://btc.com/stats/pool/slushpool So our reward is cut in half, and some more... Check this screen shot I took around mid Dec last year. https://cloud.hello.mn/s/AM5uX0d7PzKbxpp Daily average of +0.003!!! And it was even better after that when TX fees were high. Like 0.004 for a single S9. Oh man... And no, our rewards doesn't change based on BTC price.

I moved 3 S9s from antpool to slush this afternoon. Your last stat of .003-.004 was slush or kano? You kinda lost me on that...

The GUI on antpool and slush is pretty nice, but I  have 2 more S9s coming and I am determined to figure out kano for at least one of them.

Did you also see that the minimum payout was changed from .001 to .05 today? It will now take about month for an S9 to get a payout on antpool... I've got my kano acct set up, just trying to figure out where to put my payout address.

Re: Firmware for S9 November Batch
by

on 14/01/2018, 19:39:33 UTC
There are a ton of reasons to flash the firmware. They wouldnt put it out if there were not improvements being made.

For some reason there are a bunch of people on this forum that think flashing firmware is dangerous. I have literally flashed ten thousand plus bitmain units and have never bricked a machine with a firmware update. Im betting that a lot of people flashed incorrect firmware because they are too impatient to confirm they are using the correct one and blamed bitmain instead of their own incompetence.

If you are receiving machines from the November batch they will most likely already have the most current firmware. I have even received some that had newer firmware than what is offered on the bitmain support site so the chances are you wont need to update yours.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Where can one get the November or December firmware?
Bitmain's site has Apr 2017 as latest version.

The newest firmware is at the bottom of the page.

ranging from B17-B25 finish in around 5min.

What does B17-B25 means Notfuzzywarm? Thank you.

My 3rd just started hashing at 1 hour 21 mins. It just sucks that you lose all the hashing my time on the S9s where the L3+ instantly connects.

Forgot to ask too, are we talking the lights on the front or each hashcard? I spoke of the TF LED on each of the hashboards.

I am sorry guys...I should have provided more info on the post itself. I am actually talking about the normal light on the miner next to the ethernet connection. The light which keeps blinking when the miner is functioning right and changes to fault when it's not.

I believe that everyone in the latest batches is having the same problem. I started using the app to monitor and they'll just stop hashing for 5 mins or 5 hours but they'll startup again with no reason. I just rebooted all 3 of mine and all are not hashing.

After reboot this happens everytime:
System Tab-
1.Solid Green light
2. Bminer blank
3. Firmware blank

Miner Status all blank.

They will all magically start hashing at some point tonight so I am not concerned

The reason for the reboot was because I noticed Zero hashing on the web intetface and then I physically checked them and I had 2 red fault lights blinking.

Edit- I had one start hashing at 43 mins, the next at 49 mins and still waiting for the 3rd...

Thanks @HagssFIN and @Irowland21093.  So am I safe using something like this on 110v?

SILVERSTONE ST1500 1500W ATX 12V 2.3 & EPS 12V
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256054

Why spend another $300 on a power supply  when you could have an electrician give you a proper circuit in prob  30 mins. If you have an oven, clothes dryer or HVAC in your house you have 240v plugs at your place. What's one more 240v plug so you can power your miner properly?

I used a 20 amp 240v double pole breaker, 12/2 yellow romex feeding a Nema 6 receptacle.i bought the Nema6 to C13 cable $8 on amazon for the PSU. Seriously, check youtube for wire a 240v outlet and theres nothing to it. Ask an electrician and you'll prob only need the new breaker and receptacle.

There are a lot of threads where everyone is asking the same question, just asking it differently. Do you guys do stickies here?

Re: Recommended PSUs for 120V S9?
by
Bitwiz78
on 10/01/2018, 05:52:46 UTC

Edit- if you have a dedicated 120v circuit, you can very easily make it 240v. The reason it's 20amp is because that was the lowest amp 240 Breaker I saw at the store and I planned on putting 2 on it anyway. Unless it's in your wheelhouse, you might want to have an electrician make sure you have the space in your panel for the double breaker.

Not here I can't: Only single 120V to the property.

Fair enuf!

I still think itd be worth calling an electrician for a consult. 120v is a single breaker with a single hot and common. 240v is 2 hots on a double breaker.  If you have a clothes dryer, it runs on 240v, like your HVAC as well. Its all done at your panel.

Re: Recommended PSUs for 120V S9?

I've only got a dedicated 120V/60A/8kW circuit here so need to make do with that.  If I ever need more than 8kW/60A I'll get them to quote for 240V as well.

Why a 20A circuit?  The S9 14TH/s model is rated at just under 1400W at the wall, ie about 12A.  I was going to wire each into its own 15A breaker with 8 AWG. With either an individual or group RCCB/RCD.

I'm very nervous about the multi PSU idea, seems a PSU failure could kill the S9?

Parallel Miner looks interesting, thanks!  Seem to open up a whole new bunch of PSUs to use.

240V cuts your amps in half. I'm running 2 S9s with their own single Apw3 on a 20amp 240v breaker with two Nema5 6 receptacles.

Edit- if you have a dedicated 120v circuit, you can very easily make it 240v. The reason it's 20amp is because that was the lowest amp 240 Breaker I saw at the store and I planned on putting 2 on it anyway. It seems we are all having the same issue. If your settings are correct just let it run and it will eventually connect. I screwed around with firmware too. If you have rolled back the firmware, put the latest on at the bottom of bitmain page. Two of mine took every bit of 6 hours to start hashing and have been running 30 hours since with no problem. It's got to be something with the latest batches S9 controller cards. My L3+ can reboot and connect immediately everytime.

I am currently running 2 S9s on one 20amp 240 Breaker with Nema6 receptacles. The APW3  runs 1600 watts. 1600 watts÷240v = 6.6 amps. You can run 2 S9s no problem. 3 S9s will be too much and keep your headroom.

For the expense of the 120v power supply just wire up a 240v breaker and put in a Nema6 receptacle. You can get the APW++ For $200 all day on ebay or amazon. It will aslo save you 6 amps.

I started up 2 S9 13.5s this week and seemed fine until I added the worker names. After the reboot, the green light went solid. Bminer was blank and firmware too. Pulled my hair out for a couple hours rebooting, updating firmware etc. I gave up for the night and they were both hashing fine when I checked in the morning and have been running since. I had a similar issue with my 14.0. I don't know if it's the newer batches but something happens when you change the worker name. My L3+ connects instantly but not the S9s. Hope that helps.
