Re: How much do you use AI assistants?
by

on 03/12/2018, 06:15:24 UTC
I have also read some news where there are already "smart cities" wherein data of the people living in there are actually being collected that are supposed to be used to make their homes "smarter" with the use of artificial intelligence.

Wait, this actually exist? And people are handing over their "data" freely just to have a "smarter home"? I mean, nothing against AI but we could have a secure, smart home even without losing our privacy, couldn't we?

Quote
Would you be willing to give basically information of just about everything you do in exchange for a "smarter" home?

No, I won't. I don't even use AI assistants, at least not yet. I like my privacy, thank you very much.

Re: IF blockchain fails, what could replace it then?
by

Nothing I guess. But I think Governments from all over the world are still going to come up with a new digital currencies for their own country.

But then if it collapses and the governments from all over the world came up with new digital currencies, where would it run on? Do you think they will create a new technology that will make crypto exchanges possible?

depending on why it fails, we may not need to find a replacement. we may just need to fix the immediate problem. for example, when ECDSA is broken, we'll just hard fork to a new signature algorithm, which shouldn't be too controversial because it'll fix a life-or-death protocol failure. that's why quantum computing isn't necessarily all that scary.

Of course, it can always be fixed. However, I was thinking a worst case scenario where what if changing algorithms doesn't work? Could something else arise that is similar to blockchain but also not?

Good topic as there were new technologies have been made to replace blockchain. What we're talking about here is technology that is as fast as you can imagine, so it won't be that long for it to be replaced if something has been invented to surpass its mechanism in general.

Really? There is? Like what? I don't know such a thing actually exists. Can you share with us please?

Re: Young people will drive Bitcoin adoption more than the older generation.

Possibly, but the thing about this whole "young people will drive bitcoin adoption" thing is that "younger people", millennials specifically don't have enough money to spend on bitcoins, let alone spend on anything no matter how we want to or how much of a tech-savvy we are. But I guess it depends on the person and his/her priorities.

Re: The Reality of a Virtual World is Closer Than We Think
by
Blanca_Gregory

So, we live forever in a virtual reality?  You would still need physical bodies to maintain the equipment creating this virtual world.

How are these people supposed to live when the air becomes toxic in a few decades?

VR will not save the human race.  Only real action, starting about twenty years ago, could have.

If what the website claims is true and possible, they will be saving the planet AND achieve digital immortality at the same time. The question, however, is how are they planning to achieve that? Because we all know how virtual reality works, and for it to work, we still need our bodies functioning. Are we going to be put in some pods with VR headsets plugged into our heads? Or do we have to give up our lives and have our minds/consciousness synced into a computer? If this works, it could change our lives, but for now... it's a bit hard to believe it true and possible, right?

Depends on how much of my privacy I need to sacrifice and depends on how "smart" this city is going to be. For example, China is becoming a technologically advanced city but the residents seemed like they are living straight out of Black Mirror. I don't think that's a city I want to live in regardless of how "smart" the city is.

Re: Addiction to tech treatment
by

The problem with "being plugged into a supercomputer forever" is that there's not a technology that can make this possible. At least not yet. Plus, even if it is possible, ethical and moral issue will most certainly arise when this happens, depending on the manner of how this is going to be achieved. If it's simply through VR headsets a la the movie Ready Player One though, then I don't see any problem with that. The only challenge then is creating a digital world that is believable enough for the tech addict to want to "stay" plugged in forever.

IF blockchain fails, what could replace it then?
by

Although of course it seems unlikely, all good things must come to an end and someday, in the distant future, the blockchain technology will fail. When it happens, what could replace it? Is there anything out there that functions similarly and just as good and reliable as blockchain? More importantly, if nothing replaces it, what will happen to cryptocurrencies then? Any ideas?

Re: If BTC is not the best way to save money, What you think is the best ?
by
Blanca_Gregory
on 23/11/2018, 11:34:34 UTC
They say that it is not the best way save money, they can be correct and they may be wrong. This depends on how we see things in the future and our perspective and belief on where bitcoin is going soon.

So this isn't only about saving but also investing. Give your kids real property and that can be inherited forever unless they are going to sell it if they are in dire situation that its their solution to their problem.

I agree. Bitcoin may be the future, but since fiat is what we have right now, why not open a bank account solely for your kids, then buy a property, and to make the deal sweeter, store some bitcoins in a separate wallet. By the time they turned 18 they'd be rich and have a better life.

I want to choose "How to Make Money with Bitcoin" because who doesn't want to make money, but then I thought about it and realized I couldn't choose because what I'm most interested in is the entire crypto world, not just literally bitcoin, you know?

Re: 10th Birthday, Bitcoin Price Is No Longer Exciting ?
by
Blanca_Gregory

You say that now because the price has been in the same range for the past couple of months, but once it starts rising again, you'll see. More people might be joining the crypto world. The thing is, bitcoin's price has been in a bubble this year but it's expected to rise by the end of the year, or at least next year. That alone is something we should all look forward to. Besides, ICOs have little, if not nothing, to do with bitcoin, you know.

When you get accidentally charged off a website or something and it takes days/weeks before it reflects back on your account IF they approved your request. Plus the waiting game when someone sends you money, or you sending money to someone. Like seriously. What the heck is up with that?!

Re: What is death really?
by

on 09/11/2018, 18:08:06 UTC
Nope. Because I believe that one day in my lifetime, some tech giant will invent a technology that can extend my life. Whether it's through biological extension or using a technology, I'm not sure, but I have no doubt that it will happen sooner or later.

by

The way I see this whole issue about altcoins replacing bitcoin is like how people kept saying bitcoin will replace fiat. Both are well-established and it will take a long time and a very compelling reason why these two will fall and be replaced by other (crypto)currencies.

Re: Immortality.. could humanity achieve that?
by
Blanca_Gregory
on 07/11/2018, 18:41:21 UTC
Right now? No. Whether biologically or digital, the answer  to this is no. The only thing that exists after death is the afterlife, which none of us can confirm nor deny because it might be different for different people. But if you know a technology that can make us immortal let me know. I'd love to check it out.

Do you want to live forever? Quit smoking and quit drinking, start eating healthy and exercise daily because there isn't a technology that exist right now that can extend our life that easily.

Re: Alternatives to death penalty?
by
Blanca_Gregory
on 07/11/2018, 18:20:54 UTC
I believe people need to get a chance to change themselves and even mentally challenged person should get medical help to recover.
And prison are not a great way to make them better person and is very costly.
I believe prisoners should be indulged to labour works and social works under proper supervision.

What about the serial killers? The mass murderers? Do they deserve the same treatment as well? If they all use mental illness as the reason for their crime, it will be a shame to people who are truly suffering from it. Sometimes, a person who has done a terrible crime deserves to be sentenced to death. But as for alternative to death penalty ideas, the only thing I can think of is to have them experience what their victims experienced. For example, have a rapist be screwed over and over and over by a pig or a horse. Or starve them off. Lock them in a padded cell with a noise barrier while limiting their food and drink supplies.

Re: How much do you think would social media affect your country's elections?
by
Blanca_Gregory
on 05/11/2018, 19:16:45 UTC
Apparently, not that much. Just look at the last US elections. Celebrities and people who we thought have huge influence on people failed to spread the word because Trump still ended up being elected. So idk if it will still make a difference this year, but the social media is a nice platform to get people to talk and take action.

Re: [Anti-spam Suggestion] Forbid newbies to post URL's
by
Blanca_Gregory
on 05/11/2018, 19:14:00 UTC
If spam is the issue, then why not ban the website they're linking it to? Or, if they're doing it repeatedly, then just ban them altogether? No better way to keep the forum out of spammers than to filter and restrict their posts and/or ban them from the forum, right?

Probably because there are multiple new websites created daily which are then spammed here across unrelated threads.
I think it would be way more effort to ban each site, than to simply restrict newbies from posting URL's. But both is a good approach.

It would. I mean, filtering out some phrases should teach spammers a lesson. Just looking at the list of the websites OP shared, it would be helpful to ban that particular website, or at least certain phrases that they keep on using. They'll eventually find another way to spam, but that should keep the forum spam-free for a while.

Maybe journalism? At least not the entertainment news media outlets. It might be beneficial to hard-hitting news, but I'm not sure if it will be a good thing for the newspaper and the people.

Re: Is Bitcoin too difficult to understand?
by
Blanca_Gregory
on 05/11/2018, 18:50:01 UTC
I don't think it's "too difficult" to understand, it's just really complicated and tricky. It's not something you can easily Google and read in two seconds, hoping you'll understand it enough before your friend quiz you on something. If you don't have the patience to read up and on it, then it might take you ten years to understand bitcoin, and cryptocurrency in general.
