AntMiner S5 - 1 board status some dashes some circles
by

Hi all,

So I've had a S5 for ages. One of the boards seems little bit iffy. Sometimes works sometimes doesn't. At the moment it spends most of the time not working, so only one half actually mines.

Below is a screenshot of the miner status screen and I've also attached the Kernel Log if that even helps.

My question is, can this be fixed relatively easily and cheaply? Is there a part that needs replacing? Or is it a more hazzle than its worth?

From my understanding it looks like something to do with reading a signal from the board? I've tried 2 corsair power supplies and an EVGA power supply so I don't think thats the issue. Only one board has a red light, the other does not.

Cheers

Antminer S5 ASIC Status not reporting all ASIC chips
by

So I've just moved house and I can't get my S5 to work as it used to. Its run for almost a year without issue up until last month.

I've now come to use it again and I've can't get one blade to properly work. On the ASIC status tab, blade 1 just shows 0000000, that's it, no dashes, no crosses. I've read online that this is because it doesn't have enough power. I've swapped over the ribbon cables, I've swapped over PCI-E power cables, I've turned down the frequency (never run over default anyway), but still only a small amount of chips appear.

Does anyone know what this issue might be? Is the blade dead? Kinda strange considering that it was running fine up to the point I turned it off to move house.

Thanks

Dual Inline vs Single PCI-E Cables
by

So I'm a little late to the party but have a few newbish questions I hope someone doesn't mind me answering. I've had a search on the forum and on google but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

I have an Antminer S5, overclocked and draws 660w from the wall. Can I use a two dual PCI-E cable to power both boards? Or is 330W too much to put through a cable with 18AWG wire?

I've seen alot of people using the dual cables, but not sure if they're overclocking, underclocking etc, so thought it safer to ask the question before I have an accident.

The reason I ask is that I've been using my PC's PSU while a CX750M was on order. My computers PSU is semi modular so already had two PCI-E power cables already connected which I plugged into two of the inputs on the S5. I then connected up two extra pci-e power cables for the remaining two inputs on the S5. The PCI-E cables I have are 8 pin at the PSU end, and 6 at the other. The CX750M I have on order only has two 8 pin PCI-E sockets and four 6 pin PCI-E sockets. All my PCI-E cables have 8 pin connectors at one end, so it appears the only option at the moment is to use two dual 6 pin PCI-E cables. Or can I buy some cables to make use of the 6 pin sockets on the PSU?

Thanks in advance (newbie, be nice Roll Eyes)

I've been doing web dev for over 8 years now and only since starting work at an agency have I signed up to github (about 5 months ago).
When you working on a project with multiple people then some sort of git of svn repo is almost c must. Hard to work without.
The fun starts when you get conflicts Tongue

Git of a svn is for sure a bad practice in the industry. Also I use it to backup all my code.

Sorry meant or,  git or svn. Phone typo

360 seconds limit

Couldnt' find a forum specific section so where better to ask a newbie question than the newbie section.

Basically I was just wondering if this 360 second limit is global or does it only apply for a specific set of users?
I thought it might have been the 4 hour thing, but im now over that and this 360 second message keeps showing up and is really starting to piss me off.

Any ideas? Thanks

EDIT: I currently have a queue of 3 messages, 2 PM's and this, thats 15 minutes just waiting to contribute to the forum  Sad

You don't have a github or bitbucket, kinda fishy

True that, but I didn't have one till a few months ago.

No clients work online?

Edit: Sorry I missed something, you're doing this for free?

How did you manage to spend so much? Even at top whack 12 erupters should only have cost absolute max 500GBP. RPi is cheap as chips.

By 'they', do you mean the USBs or GPU's. Trying to work out if you're replying to my previous post, or just to the thread in general.

Yep altcoins do look like a potential option. I have a good GPU in my computer at the moment gaming wise but only produces around 120MH/s. I wouldn't beable to run this 24/7 either, so it would just be a 1am - 6pm sort of thing. Better than nothing though.

With the bitcoin miner I could potentially leave it on as long as possible providing all goes well.

well on bitmit you can get 50 for 8 btc so like 16.8 gigahash and on 2.5 * 50 = 125 watt power draw.

That does seem like a more reasonable option to be honest. I dont pay for electricity anyway as its included in my rent which i'd have to pay with or without a miner.

I just think the jalapeno just looks more complete than a shed load of usbs sticking out of a couple of usb hubs, ahah.

I might have to do a group buy a some point.

When you get your Jalapeno in a year, it won't be worth it once it's delivered.
As mentioned previously, I can get this within days of purchase.

-

Yes it's quite pointless right now to mine unless you're in the 100gh/s territory. Here's a tip my friend, you can mine in some new pools that don't have much people in them(example:p00l.co). with one block erupted usb you can mine way more that what you could mine in a full pool (example: slush) but will take longer times and there's no guarantee that you will make more but I'm making 0.002BTC per block with my 180mh/s graphics card.
Thats doesnt seem like too bad an idea. Guess there not much to lose really.

-

I personally have no problem with spending a bit of cash to get the right gear, but I have a feeling the other half will Tongue
Would you recommend getting the Jalapeno or sticking with a Pi and just expand with more USB's?
