Jeff Garzik, a member of the Bitcoin core development team, says in an email that bitcoin is not as anonymous as the denizens of Silk Road would like to believe. He explains that because all Bitcoin transactions are recorded in a public log, though the identities of all the parties are anonymous, law enforcement could use sophisticated network analysis techniques to parse the transaction flow and track down individual Bitcoin users.

"Attempting major illicit transactions with bitcoin, given existing statistical analysis techniques deployed in the field by law enforcement, is pretty damned dumb," he says.

I doubt major organizations will use bitcoin, but it offers a method for them to create their own network which they could use when they make their blackmarket facebook site. Tongue

I have five spare SR accounts that I thought I would burn each time I made a transaction (yes I'm that paranoid).   PM me if you want to trade some BitCoin for em'.

Also note that for those who do get these accounts, don't expect anything more than a craigslist where you can use Bitcoins.  The site's interface is poorly designed and very basic.

If you look at the publish date of the recent article from Gawker that showed up in Wired, you'll see that the demand for bitcoins has increase the value a little over two fold.  I'm sure it will level off a bit, but there really isn't any value to bitcoins if people can't spend them for the things they want and that is why SR has made such an impact.  It really shows how much people value their drugs.

I have a few accounts as well, PM me if you have some BitCoin to purchase them with.

There is rumors of SR keeping registration down for a bit as they move servers and to let the media die down a bit.  For those who do get these accounts, don't expect anything more than a craigslist where you can use Bitcoins.  The site is pertty basic.

Wait till the feds get their Quatum computers (yes they exist) on this.  Unfortunately, they could easily destabilize the bitcoin market with enough computing power.... which they can afford.  Cry
