MintPal

We are adding:

Who else would you like to see added in our next release?

You need Coinbase.  And I'm going to have to get on them for a news aggregator as well.  Will download and take it for a trauma ride.

Thanks for taking BlockStreet for a spin, hopefully it won't be too traumatic.  Wink CoinBase is next on our list for pricing, as well as LocalBitcoins.

Any and all feedback is very helpful, so thanks in advance. It's a new app, so we've got a long way to go.

Mintpal Smiley

Mintpal is in the newest release we just pushed today.  Just waiting for the iTunes store's DB to update and you'll be able to get it.  Only a few coins to start, but that will be changing very soon.

It would be interesting to add data from LocalBitcoin -- Since there's no real exchange involved the price can't be manipulated as much. But there could be fake trades between multiple accounts to give the impression that the value is higher than it is. How would you handle that?

Thanks Senseless.  LocalBitcoins makes a lot of sense.

Currently http://BlockStreet.info gets data from:

Bitfinex
Bitstamp
BTC-e
Bter
Cryptsy
Kraken

MintPal is in the next push this week.  Who should I add next to the app?  Vote for your top 5.

If they're not listed above, please feel free to recommend in the comments.  Thanks  Grin

Q4 is the earliest possibility of a ETF right? And when do projects finish in time? That's right never, so I'm assuming 2015.

I read that its roughly a year for ETF approval and they applied when ... Q4 2013 right?

-B-

I think so, but as mentioned earlier, when do these ever go smoothly.  Q4 2014 or Q1 2015.  ETF will make it easier for large institutions to invest, but there needs to be transparency and accountability in the system.

Take the Willie report for example.  http://willyreport.wordpress.com/  Assuming this is accurate, this would mean a massive distortion of the marketplace and violation of users trusts (and stealing their money).   This undermines the very core concept of bitcoin, which is that you can trust the other party without knowing who they are.

The crooks need to be driven OUT of the marketplace.  Exchanges must adopt transparent systems that will ensure the consumer that they are 100% legitimate. Ideally these should not be based on "a great team of trusted people who are running the exchange", but instead programmed into the exchange, and can be tracked/viewed/audited by anyone at anytime.

If these protections are not put in place, look forward to lots of regulation.

(This won't prevent outside forces from manipulating the systems, but it's a start.)

Sorry, but this is a bit naive. If there is a market, someone can write a program to trade in this market. Are you going to make sure that there is a single human decision on any trade. It is not possible to execute a million share buy/sell without using some sort of a program, unless you are a french banker.  Grin

Biodome, I'm not suggesting that someone can't manipulate the markets, nor that people can't run bots.  This will happen.  It just shouldn't be the exchange itself that is manipulating the market, as is suggested in the Willie report.

My personal hypothesis: By 3rd/4th quarter of this year we will see ETF's, options, leveraging, etc come into the market. Once this occurs  major Wall Street firms will start trading. This will create volume at levels never seen before and drive the price far, far higher.
They'll trade paper bitcoins that they can't back with real ones, and keep the exchange rate artificially low just like they do with gold.

Q4 is the earliest possibility of a ETF right? And when do projects finish in time? That's right never, so I'm assuming 2015.

I was assuming Q3 for the ETF, but you're probably right.  Let's say Q1 2015.

As bitcoin becomes more widely available and more volume occurs (assuming it's not false volume that has been theorized from the Willie report), more "traditional" investors will start to move in.  Fortress, for example, is a forerunner and taking a big risks. However, most big hedge funds and Wall Street firms are not going to want to work with exchanges that are not fully audited and have legitimate backing.  When more stable, and dare I say it, REGULATED markets come online, the big money will come in.  Second Market, for example.

Then we'll see pump and dump and market manipulation being done by the real professionals.  Wink

6 months to 9 months?  Though if we enter into another Bull market, I'm guessing they'll move faster to try and make a fast profit.

I had to use my iPad to check it out, but it looks pretty good so far.  Would love to be able to share the price and see a few more altcoins.  But it looks promising.

Thanks Joe. We've got a new version waiting for approval in the app store that has sharing.  Here's a screenshot.  We'll be doing some a/b testing on the sharing functionality, but first impression, can you easily identify the sharing function?

Wow, what an interesting insight into how people were thinking back in 2011.

I am curious to see where the price goes during this current cycle.  Is this the beginning a new Bull run? A trap?

but you know I am right.
No, in fact, I know you are wrong.

I am betting on it and have put my money where my mouth is.  I am heavily invested in Bitcoin and do not own a single alt coin.  Talk to me next year at this time and we will see who was right.  I expect I will have made a tidy profit and, assuming you are investing in these fly-by-night coins, you will have lost.

List all the coins you are heavily invested in here:

Right now I'm in Bitcoin and DarkCoin.  I believe in hedging. I think we are simply too early in the technology cycle to claim a victor, and some of the altcoins have potential. Sure, it's most likely that Bitcoin will end up on top, but remember:

Vinyl => Tape => CD => MP3 => Streaming

Friendster => Myspace => Facebook

Who knows what a year will bring.
