Re: Bitcoin QT Wallet STUCK in Blockchain

Yes, the wallet does seem broken.  I had this same exact problem.  Every time I installed and ran it, it got to a certain point in the block chain and then got stuck.

To get it to work, I had to download the blockchain manually from here: http://eu1.bitcoincharts.com/blockchain/

seems this is an older problem, check out this:
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/911

That commit looks several months old.  I just downloaded and installed the Bitcoin client about a week ago.

More than overnight means that something is broken (unless your hardware is very slow or you're running it on truecrypt).

This particular attempt to get the client working has been going on for about a week.

Debug.log follows.

Where can I find debug.log?  Its not in %ProgramFiles%\Bitcoin with the executable.

From the wiki: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory

Windows

Go to Start -> Run (or press WinKey+R) and run this:

explorer %APPDATA%\Bitcoin

Bitcoin's data folder will open. For most users, this is the following locations:

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application data\Bitcoin (XP)

C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\Bitcoin (Vista and 7)

"AppData" and "Application data" are hidden by default.

I see a bunch of this:

Check the block progress. If your connection is slow or it's throttled it can take days (and by retrying you are only making it worse).

Is there a way for me to 'unstick' it without clearing everything out and trying to start over from scratch?  To clarify, it has made no progress whatsoever in the last few days.  Not even fast enough to keep up with the ongoing growth of the blockchain.

No other applications or protocols are having any issues.

Are you doing the default client? It takes a LONG time....

I think so.  I got it from here: http://bitcoin.org/

About window says version 0.7.0-beta.

Can you post the debug.log someplace (it will include your IP, so don't if you need to keep that private)

Where can I find debug.log?  Its not in %ProgramFiles%\Bitcoin with the executable.

I'm afraid I've already nuked it and tried from the start several times.  It always gets stuck near the end.

Sorry, jumped the gun on my post.  At ~196700, it just sits there, displaying at the bottom "Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct! ..."  When mousing over, it says "Catching up..." but never actually makes any progress.

I've been trying to get a wallet running for about a week now, and I keep getting stuck in a certain point while downloading.  Around ~196700 or so, it stops downloading, and just shows.  I assumed this was a corrupted download, but this is fourth time I've tried and end up stuck.

It says I have 21 connections, my hard drive has plenty of space, and my computer is in my router's DMZ.

Is there a known good source I can download these from some other way?

Re: When will GPU mining become unprofitable? (electricity $>BTC generated)

Probably pretty soon.  The block subsidy is getting cut in half in December, and ASICs are poised to marginalize the hashrate of the GPU miners.

Ohai, bitcoin people.

Just started mining on my computer's GPU, looking forward to getting a dedicated ASIC rig.  Wink
