actually bitmit was probably one of the most successful businesses which ran into legal problems (I believe).

Nah, I gues they gave a notice to all their users that they're about to close down and everyone was still able to withdraw their coins. This ain't another Gox or Bitfunder... It's a rare thing, in Bitcoin world, though
bitcoin-qt because it is always the safest keeping money yourself, just don't let hacker took it..
The core Bitcoin-QT is relatively safe if you encrypt the wallet and are careful to avoid getting malware/trojans onto your machine. If you are not careful then there's no more security having your keys in that file and accessible to whoever can access your backdoor.
You would need to keep the wallet offline if you're sloppy and download all kinds of "junk"
Yeah, but I think the biggest caveat of BitcoinQT is still that it has to download the whole freaking Blockchain! It's just too big nowadays. Therefore I really do prefer a lightweight client like MultiBit...
They're pretty much all shit, but I like the one on primedice as you can gamble with it. There's new faucet levels just been released as well.
Yeah, PrimeDice has a pretty decent faucet, that's for sure! The only disadvantage would be that you can't withdraw the coins you get there, unless you are above a certain amount of BTC!

That's incredible! Isn't that just some kind of early adopter? I guess it's impossible to get that many coins nowadays as a single person, unless you are scamming someone. Man, the scams won't ever stop, will they?

Come on, you know that isn't right. A lot of people are using their coins, just because you don't doesn't mean the rest isn't either. People blame the price drops to companies selling all those coins they get from their customers, and yet you say people aren't spending their coins. Someone's gotta be wrong, here!
Mining can be only profitable if you either invest a large sum, or speculate on new altcoins. It's difficult to pull off.
Yeah, most people rather just mine the latest coin and hope that people will buy their coins in a futile attempt to diversify their portfolio (in order to catch 'the next big thing')... Just take a look into the altcoins section! It's like a freak-bazaar!

It's okay, but you shouldn't use it as a wallet. Use the original BitcoinQT client. Or some lightweight client (which doesn't have to download the whole Blockchain) like MultiBit or Electrum. Keep the control over your own coins or you don't really own them!!!
I think the whole thing about reusing addresses is just a precautionary measure to make it safer, but I don't think it's something you need to worry about.

Nah, it isn't that big of a problem in certain cases. If you just want to collect donations that you'd have to declare anyways, why not gather them in a single wallet. They didn't expect Bitcoin to become so big and just put up a single address... so what?
it just flags up anything that looks suspicious it doesn't mean it is harmful so you still need to use your brain and decide whether its safe or not its just a type of warning system and not something which just stops everything.
Yeah exactly. Also it works best if it 'knows' the viruses or the malware. I uses several intelligent ways of recognizing new malware, but this isn't completely safe. Definitely use your own brain if you're doing something Bitcoin related! And use 2FA!
Btc mining isn't profitable, you should have thousands of $ in order to set up a mining farm, otherwise you won't earn anything.
Yeah, it basically is about pushing down the costs as much as possible. You need to have as little overhead as possible! Also, you need to have access to really cheap electricity! That's basically the key to still earn money from mining!

I was just wondering: I am planning to buy something of a person online using Bitcoins, but what if he doesn't send me my item?
To me, a Bitcoins-dummy, a Bitcoin wallet seems like some sort of anonymous bank account because you can just fill in a fake name etc.
Now what if I buy something of this person, and he doesn't send the item to me, how can I report him or how can I know who he is? Is there a way I can use his BT address to see who he is?
I'm just very cautious as I don't want to be scammed.

It's very difficult. Purely from knowing their BTC address, there is effectively no way of telling who they are, if the address hasn't been used before and that use can be connected to a certain person! You could try to follow where the funds are going, but if they go into a mixer... good luck!
Yeah, using an escrow seems like the best solution for this!
I have read that BitMit was a good marketplace. I'm unfortunate that it was closed before I use it. Can anyone, who has the experience of using BitMit, please tell me how the product delivery tracking used to work on BitMit ?
What do you mean by product delivery tracking? It was basically an eBay-like site where you could sell or buy/bid things and buy them with Bitcoin. You first send your Bitcoins to an escrowed wallet on the site, and the funds were 'frozen' if you bought something. If you received the goods, you could 'unfreeze' the funds and they would go to the seller. In case of a delivery not arriving, BitMit would have to settle the conflict.

Aww man, I'm so sorry reading that!! Things can be confusing in advanced settings, yeah... Better just stick to the regular send-feature! I once almost screwed up with those long Bitcoin addresses. Mixed up a few numbers or letters. It was already pretty late and I was out partying!
Yeah it's those little things that people who know Bitcoin and know how to use it don't get. The normal person on the street wants something to be easy and safe. If it was possible to pay more than you intended to pay with your Credit Card, people would freak out as well!

Yeah, sure. But that's exactly the thing. People want the security that Credit Cards offer them. I think they also still just have to learn to be more careful when it comes to Bitcoin. They shouldn't believe everyone and just send BTC to some address.

You're welcome! It's a great thing that you're interested. I hope you're not about to show Bitcoin in a way that's bad for it. Showing the negative sides, dangers or caveats is okay, but I don't think it's very smart to just shun it and write it off as a stupid pyramid scheme. What do you think about Bitcoin up to now?

For face to face transactions, confirmation time is one hurdle that i can think about.
Nah, it really isn't that big of a problem. If you're transacting really big amounts, you have to wait for at least one confirmation, yes. But if you're doing small amounts, you're fine just making sure the transaction isn't an obvious double spend. This only takes about 10 seconds. Trusted members of some website would be stupid to try and scam someone with an attempted double-spend!
