It'll be a heck of a job making Bitcoin a mainstream topic.
My doubts are high, but best of luck to you and the community who participates!

"infowarsstore.com will start using it"

Like him or hate him, he's got a large listener base, and certainly can help introduce lots of people to the usefulness of BTC.

good to see Alex come around... i know he was skeptical a year ago.
Who wouldn't have been skeptical last year with all the silk road disasters as well as mtgox faking trades (not that anyone knew it at the time)
Good news tho

Exactly, why use bitcoin which is on a public ledger when you could use cash which is completely untraceable

If you are interested in making minimal coin per hour instead of doing research on how to make more, then yes, PTC is the way to go.

I don't think bitcoin will reach a bottom of 220$, with all the good news of these months and the adoption of big companies
it should be closer to the start of a new rally rather than dropping at low values.

I agree
All these prediction are based on trends and not on any of the news for bitcoin
I believe it will rise

Re: Is there room for a State Run Cryptocurrency?
by
BtcGains
on 30/07/2014, 22:40:55 UTC
Hi,

I've been asking for opinions about a proposal that's come up here in Scotland.  We're going to the polls in the next month to decide whether we want to split from England and become an independent country - basically the end of the United Kingdom that's lasted 400 years.

There's been plenty of discussion not only on whether we should, but whether we could (practically.)  One of the major stumbling blocks is the use of GBP - the Bank of England has said a post-independent Scotland can't use it.  Bit mean, but there you are.

So the question came up - If Scotland needs a new currency, why not set up a State-Run Cryptocurrency?

Here's my thoughts on the issue.

http://cryptocurrencymadesimple.com/should-scotland-set-up-a-state-run-cryptocurrency/

Also, it appears that Ecuador got there first:

http://cryptocurrencymadesimple.com/ecuador-nationalise-cryptocurrency/

Would love to here what you guys think.

State-run cryptocurrency would just be another form of fiat. Decentralization is what differentiates, say, bitcoin from dollar and other state-controlled currencies, that is absence of the governing body (central bank) which is given the privilege of emitting currency monopolistically.

Wrong...
Decentralisation is bitcoins specialty not crypto in general.
A state run crypto would not count under what bitcoin is designed for but rather what they make of it

Re: Good News but Price drops ?
by

Hello everybody,

In last week's there were many good News about Bitcoin, normally the Price would go to the Moon #Dell. But it goes every day down and down, also the Price is not anymore Stable, the Price goes 1 Step Up to fall hours later 2 steps down
It's been $570-$580 for a few days now, the price for good news usually jumps within a few days of the news being released. When more people hear about it people buy in, the buy in just hasn't occurred yet or probably the news isn't that big so not many people bought in = tiny or no price rise.

Re: What should I do with over $4-5 worth in BTC?
by

Gamble at a gambling website. 5$ won't get you far, but its fun.

if you good on gamble you will win big Cheesy

That state of mind is a good way to lose your money.
Never gamble is my opinion.

I recommend trading, do not bother with mining as your ROI will be tiny. Do some research where you can trade. I saw cryptsy offers a new automated trading not on their client which I've been using and it's perfect. It's never been easier to trade crypto's automatically like this so I recommend having a look at that and giving it a try!

This is for people under 14 activity
Prevents spam
14 x 6 mins = 90 minutes until your restrictions are gone assuming you make a it's every 6 minutes + logging in restriction and assuming you do not send any PM's
They should just make it 360 seconds for the account no matter what IP as it isn't hard to login on a phone or change your IP with a VPN and bypass this rule.

I run coffeecoin.pw and I buy and sell Starbucks gift cards.  The restrictions are making it very inconvenient to trade for me (e.g. one post every six minutes, 5 pms an hour)

What can I do?

I noticed once I hit 14/15 activity restrictions went down to only 45 seconds which was a massive jump.
Just keep posting constructively and you'll be there in no time!

you need to post more over time. The posting restricting are designed so it is hard to scam multiple people as a newbie.

That's not correct
From what i read it is to spam...that is not why activity was created

Re: Blockchain’s Bitcoin App Reinstated in Apple’s App Store

Downloaded the app on my iPad, what a disappointment....
The icon looks crap and the interface is for iPhone only, I hope it works  Roll Eyes

That's a bummer. Hopefully they get a true iPad version out soon. I like the iPhone version, but I agree about the logo looking a bit lame (I like the older logo better).

Looks fine on iPhone...
I think they're working on it, they probably never though apple would approve them again so they haven't been updating it. It works for now, but hopefully ipad versions and improved iphone versions come out soon with more functionality such as custom send etc...lacks in those areas

It's been a long time coming. I wonder what the actual delay was seeing as they announced they were allowing them back a while ago.

About bloody time
Not expecting any meaningful price upside as a consequence though

What? Why would the price rise due to it? It's free app.
That's what I was thinking...
Divinespark this piece of news probably effects the price by $1... It's meaningless information and it's a free app...it does nothing for Bitcoin it's just another project that makes it easier to use

Re: So Who's Selling?
by
BtcGains
on 28/07/2014, 23:36:02 UTC
The price will continue to bounce up and down and the reason is simply because it's such an unreliable currency to predict.
Miners sell, investors panic-sell when miners sell and the bridge just goes from there until a good piece of news comes out and the price rises, then the process happens all over again.
It could be market dictation, but it isn't always the case

Why not just adopt Bitcoin itself as a main currency? You could even set up a fractional banking system based on top Bitcoin. The first government to do this is going to have a huge economic advantage for the rest of this century.

There are still way to many liabilities for a government to implement bitcoin as a main currency
There are no cards and if there were you still can't trace payments in anyway like you can with a normal card unless bankers have accounts with their info on it which completely defeats the purpose of a decentralised currency.
If a government adopted Bitcoin, would you still call it decentralised? I don't think so

Re: Can bitcoin survive without the Internet?
by
BtcGains
on 28/07/2014, 23:27:32 UTC
In my opinion bitcoin are exist just because of internet and when you shut down the internet bitcoin community will disappear.
Sadly he's right
How will the Bitcoin community survive with it the internet? How will we trade our coins? How will the average user even get a hold of a Bitcoin without going through so much trouble like ringing around or exchanging in person?
It'll be impossible for Bitcoin to grow any further if the internet is off. It'll be impossible for Bitcoin to SURVIVE. It just won't happen.

As much as all of us dreamers want to believe that radio waves can submit transactions that's not what it is about. Besides, there will be much larger worries than Bitcoin if the internet does in fact shut off.

Re: Bitcoin is a stock
by

on 28/07/2014, 05:09:49 UTC
If bitcoin is a share then so is fiat. They are both currencies, only one is tangible and one is digital. In some cases bitcoin can be tangible, but in general fact stocks are simply owning part of the company.
You own a share you own a part of a company, you own a bitcoin you own a piece of currency like you do with cash.
