If all stores in the Casino group started accepting BTC that might be the biggest adoption of all time. International reach too.

It wouldn't be very smart to buy 10,000 BTC and then try to cause the price to fall in order to buy more at a lower price.

Depends really. It could be. People have done things like that often. Especially when there was less liquidity and the market was smaller. I don't know how effective such manipulation tactics are these days though.

Re: How easy it is to KILL bitcoin.
by
Bubbles06
on 01/09/2014, 19:44:56 UTC
Actually the best way to kill it or kill it off, is to leave it to the devs..

I know of 3 bugs in the origional bitcoin application, that, despite countless updates, resemble battlefield bad company. See, I cant understand why with so many updates, the bugs people actually WANT removed are allowed to stay, "but we'll add this n that, creating more bugs people can complain about that we know we can fix" - Yeah.. How many changes were made to our wallet's? My lass has 600 bitcoins in her origional wallet, yet she has to install how many different versions BEFORE she can get to use them? Instant? Yeah, after 5 years of re-downloading blockchains before she can do whatever.. and that's of course if she can find every version of bitcoin that had changes made by people who are nothing to do with bitcoin, other than pretending satochi was the bitcoin creator..

Bitcoin app still closes when it wants. Runaway exception's causing whatever we have downloaded of the blockchain to be ruined, so start again.. and again.. how long will it take to download the blockchain in 5 years time?

Fact is, the app itself 'appears' to have zero or miniscule changes, yet how many versions of bitcoin app have been released?

Leave it to the devs.. since they probably own over 60% and wont part with them. Then there's the looming governmental controls.. it's bad enough trying to obtain bitcoins without wondering if they are worth anything at all in the real world, instead of purchasing power that gets ya 10 grands worth of pc that wont be worth half in the next year..

Look at all them faucets.. the fact they tell lies on their first page is enough to put any sensible person off them. Then ya get the stealthepixels scam of, visit next site to be paid instantly.. do you get paid instantly? NO. Conned again by a bitcoin dev.

Think I'm wrong?

75% of the world has NEVER heard of bitcoin, never mind used a computer.

Go on devs.. keep your bitcoins, cause if you think they are worth it, 75% of the world will be like, eh?

The devs don't own very many Bitcoins. Gavin doesn't at least. And Jeff Garzik revealed he only had like 300.

Wumpus or Sipa might a nice stash, but no where near this 60% number you speak of.

It seems like a legit effort to create a local currency.

All other local currency efforts have been a either a scam or a failure. So it's interesting to see someone try to do it right.

It would be interesting to see this catch on in Holland.

Even if Bitcoin were fading away linking it to gold would be an odd choice. How would someone do that? And why would they?

remeber getting Aweb on my Amiga and graduating from BBS's to full blown web pages - ahhh happier times

Amiga? I love you!

I remember learning C just because of the intuition and Amiga's kernel.
Learnt multi-tasking just because of the AGA chipset Smiley
Loved the kernel books who were thicker than my arm, read them for a whole month during the night without sleeping at all Smiley

I probably shouldn't do this, out of risk that you'll spend the next month reading old books and magazines and delay the anon features we're all waiting for, but you will probably love this if you haven't seen it already:

http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/

It's an archive of scans of tons of Commodore and Amiga magazines and books. Enough to fill a couple of dozen DVD's (he sends out DVD sets)

Wow this website is a labour of love. This guy seriously loves his old computers.

That people continue to send money to BFL is a failure of the Bitcoin community. We must strive as a community to prevent newbies from falling into BFL's trap. Whenever we see BFL mentioned, we must warn people to stay away. It is the only honorable action to take.

I personally haven't been involved with mining directly, but what gets me is that these guys (BFL and reps) are still attending all the high-end btc conferences (Bitcoin2014 amsterdam/ inside bitcoins hong kong being most recent) and giving endless publicity interviews etc.. why? What do they hope to achieve and who is even listening to them? Seems very deceptive to me, newbies beware indeed.

They hope to achieve more people prepaying for hardware that they'll never receive. Or receive many months or even a year or more after the fact.

Re: Why does acceptance of Bitcoin has to do with the price of Bitcoin?
by
Bubbles06
on 09/07/2014, 15:51:16 UTC
At the present time merchant acceptance doesn't have much an immediate noticeable impact on the demand for bitcoin because almost all merchants use BitPay or Coinbase which instantly convert the bitcoin to USD. But overall it should have a positive effect on demand in the longer term.

Well, a lot of people are in to Proof of Stake currencies which use very little energy compared to Bitcoin. Which obviously "wastes"(I use that loosely since it's a loaded term) a ridiculous amount of energy.

That guy who loves Bitcoin stepping away from paypal  Cry

http://www.businessinsider.com/paypal-president-david-marcus-joins-facebook-2014-6

Paypal is just a subsidiary of Ebay, and the CEO of Ebay likes bitcoin.

So that's great. More and more bitcoin lovers in the senior positions of major companies

This is intriguing for sure. Facebook poaching a bit coin enthusiast could mean good things.

I wouldn't exactly call him a bitcoin enthusiast. He was just doing his job as CEO understanding modern technology related to his field.

I'm sure people at facebook are more than aware of bitcoin considering their in Silicon Valley. I wouldn't expect anything directly from facebook anytime soon though.

Re: What is Western Union?

Just go in to the local Western Union counter if there is one. You'll be sending or receiving person to person and they give you a special number.

The fees are quite high though. It's not a very good way to transfer money but it's often the only option for many people in many countries.
