Blackcoin is the future, here is my thoughts:

To reiterate the obvious points: the network can operate without the need for mining equipment, there is the obvious energy savings

However in addition we need to give people incentives to leave their wallets open as this helps power the network.
More wallets online == more connections == faster everything

Having a PoS coin with minimum days needed to stake be more than a day means people can leave their wallets off for a while before powering back on to try and mint

8 hours is the perfect time. Not to long, not to short.

Minting is low power and since most people's computing is heading to tablets and smartphones that means Blackcoin is perfect for mobile devices. Blackcoin getting android / iOS wallets would be a huge boon.

So does the voting system serve any other purpose than just a gimmick? Seems like the voting is just going to go one way according to the whims of the botnet and/or the select few that own giant cluster farms. I imagine that the vote is going to reach a point where it's an obvious run away. And depending on whether or not the few that control the majority of the hashing power invested in the IPO will decide the outcome of the vote.

The majority of the hash power did invest in the IPO = vote less so that their original investment is worth more

The majority of the hash power did not invest in the IPO = vote for more so that their mining is worth more.

Don't really see it as a useful feature but rather just a gimmick to add to perceived value of the product.

And what exactly is the point on an IPO? The coin has already been made and I doubt the developers have already quit their full time jobs to support full time development. The lack of the escrow service lends heavily to the image that the IPO is nothing more than a quick cash out.

In addition what is with the misleading percentage of premined numbers? The premined amount of coins is 5%-10%. NOT a more acceptable 1%-2%.
Pre: before, something that precedes.
Mine: the public service of miners hashing away at solving blocks.
Premine: the coins before public mining, i.e. The IPO and bounty coins.

You don't get the liberty of defining the IPO coins as not inclusive to the premined amount. That is deliberately misleading and that is not an oversight. This was intentional to give an acceptable publicly perceived premined percentage number to bolster the value of the product.

The IPO combined with the voting system only lends itself to manipulation. Not something a new coin that is trying to get established needs.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is PoS, what is the difference with PoW ? Why waiting PoS to sell ?

here is a link explaining everything:

Can you please correct the premine to the correct values: 5-10% of the total supply. I don't know how you calculated 1-2%, but that's definitely wrong, I just checked this with the calculator:

(5000000+1500000) / 63000576 = 0.10317365987257 (10.3% premine)
(5000000+1500000) / 128000000 = 0.05078125 ( 5% premine )

Please do not deceive people:

This coin is 5 to 10 percent premine, not 1 to 2.

yah, can we get an explanation as to where the 1 and 2 percent numbers came from? 5% to 10% checks out with the numbers we have

edit: looks like the premine percentage refers to the number set aside for bounties: 1,500,000
1500000/63000576 = 0.0238093061244
1500000/128000000 = 0.01171875

so the question is does the term "premine" here refer to the total of all coins set aside before the launch?

looking at the IPO, I'd like to go at least 5 BTC deep. which would give me roughly 16% of the total IPO.

however I would be naive to think that there isn't going to be some last minute rush. So the game then becomes trying to figure out what exactly the total IPO investment is going to end on. I am guessing we might see a 100 BTC IPO, thus only giving me 1/20th with a 5 BTC investment.

a ~100ish BTC IPO would establish the base price to be (100/(5*10^6)) = 2*10^-5 = 0.00002 BTC, which oddly enough I dont feel very comfortable with, seems a bit high for a new coin. I would hope the price would rise past that as a potential investor

hmm, decisions decisions....

Just because the dev doesn't spoonfeed noobs the guides that are pasted literally everywhere it does not mean it isn't a fair launch.
You do not need a pool at launch when you can solo mine. If you have a low hash rate then it sucks to be you.  Smiley

but bro if i cant instamine a gorillion coins with my nVidia 8800 after the dev personally hand walked me through setup, despite all the needed info being in the OP and/or on google, it's an unfair shitcoin scam launch!

I think "PoS only" is the way to go, I think mintcoin got that right. However I think the stake age needed to be lower that way people have an incentive to leave their wallet on all the time. With this in mind it is possible to "mine" on low power devices like tablets and phones, ect. 8 hours seems about right. In addition, more wallets on should mean more network connections.

That logo tho... gonna need some work lol

I'm in

Edit:
Noticed that the block height is 10000 and the block time is 1 minute
does that mean this coin should only be able to be mined for 10000 minutes = 6.94444 days?

I think beeeeer.org was having issues with their payout system which caused all rewards to go down. something about outdated clients spamming 6 chains. Not sure if your results are conclusive with this in mind

Re: PPCoin Proof of Stake Minting Setup Guide
by

I have 100 PPC that I received over a month and half ago. I have everything I believe setup right. The wallet says that it is unlocked for block minting only. I have left it running for the better half of a week now and my stake is still at 0 with nothing going on in the transactions. How long does one usually have to wait to see something?

I've googled this specific question a hundred different ways and cant seem to find an answer.  Huh
