My sincerest apologies for asking "stupid" questions but I have not done a Group Buy yet.
Am I correct in understanding that 1 Share= 1/30th of 2THs which is ~67 GHs?
How often will payouts be issued once hashing has started?
What pool will you be mining on?
Delivery for this GB is expected in Jan or Feb?

Thank you very much for your time and energy. And my deepest apologies again for "wasting" your time but I could not find the answers to these questions in plain sight.

No you won't, you'll search for the bottom and then get second guesses, then you buy anyway, then it drops even further and you panic sell. Then you lose money  Cheesy

Interesting Correlation between Microsoft Stock and Bitcoin Prices
by
Byteme
on 19/10/2013, 04:34:55 UTC
Has anyone else noticed the correlation between Microsoft stock prices and BTC prices? Their overall price chart (dollars=y , time=x) and the "curve" of the two's history is very similar. I'm not really saying there is a direct link between the two or that they even affect each other. But maybe they do? Anyways, I just noticed this today and thought I would point it out and see what discussion arises. Smiley

Does anybody else have any other similar comparisons to share?

Mine until unprofitable then resell for an ebay premium?

I'll hold onto mine in case there's a difficulty crash, but it's always an option that you can work into your roi.

Has a difficulty drop ever happened? I'd figure unless they decide to make more bitcoins available that it would be the only way to make a difficulty change.

Yes, a difficulty drop HAS happened before. Quite a big one too. Look at the chart history of difficulty.

Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List.

I think there is a hub missing in the list, only the ultimate hub!

Here is a copy of my post:

Looking to power all your Block Erupters in your PC?  We have the solution at WTCR.

A tried, tested, and true hub solution with the lowest possible cost-per-port.

Utilizes your PC's power supply for it's 5v.  Powered with a floppy connector but includes a molex to floppy adapter.

Running for weeks stable with all 13 ports populated with Block Erupters, it's safe to say these are the best hubs around.

Got some CM Stackers lying around at home?  Fill up all the bays with Block Erupters!

Questions?  Simply email sales@wtcr.ca or inquire through our website.

Resellers?  These are an excellent item to include with bundles of USBs as all Block Erupters need a hub!

Just bought 2 of these hubs and they are giving me lots of problems so far....what am i doing wrong?

Do the calculations man. It's simple math. What model processor/GPUs are you looking to buy? See what others have reported their hash rates to be. Figure out your total hash rate and use a profitability calculator to figure out how much you will make per day. Divide that amount into the total amount of money you want to spend on your rig and you will have figured out how many days ROI will take.

But I can tell you, spending $3,000 on computer to be used for mining sounds like you are being ripped off or not building it yourself (Unless you are getting some bad ass GPUs). I highly suggest buying the parts separately and building the rig yourself as you will save a lot of money doing that.

Just my two cents. I hope my message didn't convey a sarcastic or negative tone. I was merely trying to say that there are ways of figuring our ROI without having others do the math for you Smiley

Re: Help me understand Bitminter please!

I decided to use the contact button on www.bitminter.com and received a very speedy reply from Geir H. Hansen, BitMinter operator. Very friendly gentleman and took the time to say this:

"the pay per block is calculated based on the amount of work in the last
10 shifts that belong to you. If you do more work (your hashrate goes
up) it will go up. If the pool hashrate goes up (others do more work) it
will go down, but at the same time we get more blocks per day, so your
average payout is the same. If you take a break from mining then your
pay per block will be longer until that break is not among the last 10
shifts anymore."

He went on to say in another message:

" Pay per block will be back up again after
your machine has been working for a while."

So... the longer you mine at Bitminter, your Expected per block value will/should increase (to a certain point I'd imagine there is some limit or cap). Other attributes that will increase your expected per block value:
Adding more hash power to your rig.
Others on the Bitminter Pool increasing their hash power.
Keeping low downtime on your miners.

This makes sense as my internet was out for nearly a whole day, which was a lot of shifts that I missed out on. Once that "gap" wasn't in the shift history (Last 10 shifts) my block value returned to normal Smiley

I hope this helps others. I know I was pretty confused and a little sad  Cry

So, what is the lifespan of USB Block Eruptors? When are they expected to fail, die, overheat or otherwise stop working?

What if you are going long on BTC and are hoping to mine as much as possible and sit on them for the value to build (hopefully all the while still slowly upgrading and adding more hardware)

I will also add that before I logged in tonight ,to review my account, the Expected per block value was rising as was the total pool hashrate. When the hashrate dipped down so did the block value. I am just totally at a loss of words right now.

Help me understand Bitminter please!
by
Byteme
on 25/09/2013, 05:07:43 UTC
I seemed to notice the Expected per block value changes quite frequently and seems to be tied directly to the total hashrate of the Bitminter Pool. However today I noticed this value was cut down dramatically. Yesterday it was around 0.00431987, but as you can see today another "0" as sneaked in between the decimal and the numbers I care about. (The difficulty hasn't changed since yesterday)

So I ask you...can you help me understand what determines this Expected per block value? And possibly why it was cut down so much?  Huh

Thanks in advance for you taking the time to help explain this subject to me. I am still very new to the bitcoin scene, but I am trying to flood my brain with knowledge on this subject. So please help if you can and feel up to it!  Grin

Re: USB Hubs....
by
Byteme
on 25/09/2013, 04:53:36 UTC
Hi Byteme,

Most USB hubs aren't designed for a lot of maximum load devices (which block erupters are). If you think about average computer users, they are more likely to have lower load devices plugged in - mice, keyboards, flash drives and so on, which aren't drawing anywhere near the 2.5W limit. So hub manufacturers design for a lot less than 2.5W per port.

Also, in general, yes it's probably fine to supply more power to a hub, and then run more devices from it. That said, with the current bitcoin mining difficulty, a block erruptor is not earning a lot, and you are almost certain to spend more on a power supply than you will ever earn back...

Flasket, thank you very much for your explanation. Just the type of response I was looking for. As I am looking through page after page of hubs I notice most of them never have "enough" power per port. Your answer definitely makes sense, it still seems like these hardware companies that make USB hubs are cutting corners by not giving bigger power supplies.

Anyways, thanks again for taking the time and give your response.
