the castle/manor is nice and has had some good events with bitcoiners, while illiquid it does provide some level of enjoyment from its utilization. unlike say owning some altcoin which is illiquid but also useless.

Altcoins illiquid Huh

Last I checked I can liquidate altcoins with a click of a mouse, real estate however is either selling for heavy discount or waiting half a year and let's not speak of all the talking, travelling, meeting and administration.

The only useless altcoins are those that look most like bitcoin, many however innovate and some are already a lot more useful than bitcoin.

NXT for example allows you to not only save your money better thanks to no inflation, and save it with more certainty thanks to being 1000 times better secured against a 51% attack, but also pay people quicker thanks to 10 times faster secure validations, allows you to also message other accounts fully encrypted, launch or buy assets, sell or buy goods and services, and now even launch your own crypto.

Investing is not about knowing where the price is going. (If you know it, you're a manipulator/controller, not investor.)

Instead of knowing the future, there are probabilities concerning immediate future price development. Those can be calculated from historical price series, etc. and one of them is that selling after a large drop is -EV, (ie. stupid).

If you fail to know these probabilities, you are bound to lose, because you make bad trades.

It is quite simple actually. Like Poker, good players know their things. In each hand, if they have only 2% advantage, they beat the house, and consequently, win.

Bad players not only fail to know their stuff, they even fail to acknowledge their existence. Good luck with that, more money for the knowledgeable ones.

Fundamentally I see no reason whatsoever in selling, so the whole debate is painful. In my understanding, Bitcoin is not any weaker, nor its prospects any worse, now, than when it was $300 some days ago. Or perhaps they are, but the difference in EV is certainly less than the difference in price. Therefore I more likely lean on buying, because
1) BTC is relatively better than before, vis-a-vis the other components in my portfolio (assuming they haven't changed during the drop), and
2) BTCs percentage of the portfolio has declined due to the drop.

Sigh.

Great post man!

Liked your castle purchase at the high but very illiquid, think you will have to discount it sharply to get bitcoin below $500.

Maybe better to take a loan out against it ASAP?

Over 1 year bear market.

I did not expect this but I did expect a strong correction.

NXT is the red-headed stepchild in this crypto space. Learn the history and you'll come to understand why this is so.

The children mocked on the playground are often those that make it later in life, while those that bullied, neglected and laughed, fall to the wayside.

I note that NXT is gaining traction, for example, it's the first time I see people discuss it in the speculation forum. And not just one, several people immediately talk positive about it.

Bitcoin is the only one I have faith in currently. It has merchant adoption behind it and media attention whereas alts don't. They're just essentially for people who missed the bitcoin boat and want to try find the next NXT big thing.

... those who do nothing but sit on coins. (see sig for details)

Your envy clouds your thinking.

Owning coins, is not doing nothing, as many may attest here...

NEM and it's proof of importance, is build on wrong assumptions, therefore nothing will come of it.

Stick to NXT boys...

nem is vapor ware? i think not.. beta has been out for months and working fantastically. you can try it here: https://forum.nemcoin.com/beta-launch-discussion/nem-beta-0-4-39/

screen shot of the client:

You are right, Ethereum is the ultimate vaporware.

NEM reminds me of Litecoin, a copycat, same code, same looks, just changed some parameters and the sales pitch. Sorry, not going to cut it.

SuperNet is not even a cryptocurrency, it's a bunch of assets that promise to deliver services and a share in some altcoins, also known as a fund where you trust all your money to certain people...

Mind boggling that someone chooses to invest in vaporware, copycats and funds, and choses not to invest in Bitcoin and NXT.

NEM (New Economy Movement)

Ethereum

SuperNET

thats about it.

That's 3 in a row bro, 3 vaporware projects that is...

Congrats.  Wink

How do you search for good investments?

- must promise heaven
- must have delivered nothing
- will pay extra if sales pitch contains elements of Envy and/or Grandeur.

What are you actually trying to achieve in this? To be able to get to a new rank, you must be logged in within a two-week time frame and post enough to get activity. I bet you're familiar with the ranking and activity system here in BTT so it wouldn't be that hard to figure that hard. However, I'm still confused on what you're really trying to achieve in this.  Huh

Thanks, I just want to vote and see also the voting results. Now it's blank next to the different options so I cannot vote, nor can I see a link to check out the results.

I was not aware the activity needed to be within a 2 week timeframe in order to get out of newbie status.

pfffff.................

I'm a newbie it says in my profile but I have 2 days logged in, 22 post or so.

Is this bug or do I need to get rid of newbie status and how much do I need to post for this?

Re: WTF is happening with NXT? Fucking Nothing!!!
by

So they said this was the NXT big thing, by far the best crypto 2.0 bla bla bla, I plow in this summer and what happens?  Bitshares doubles, Counterparty quadruples, and NXT? Only went down, 2 cents a fucking coin. 0.00004500 btc now. All time lows. Lost 70% of my money!

Should I sell it all, hold on, or buy more?

Where do you get idea Bitshares doubles? It's fallen 2x in last month.

Past month Bitshares has fallen but since the summer, August, it still doubled from around $20 million to now around $40 million.

Counterparty went from $5 million to $20 million.

However NXT went down from $30 million to $20 million.

For reference Bitcoin went down from around $550 in August to now $400.

The frustration is that if you bet on Bitcoin 2.0 this summer and selected NXT because of all the reasons why it is better than Bitshares or Counterparty, you were wrong. The latter went up a lot while NXT went down.

Both are now even valued higher as NXT, 6 months ago NXT was valued about 10 times higher as both and the 3th largest crypto.

How things can change...
