The Ripple currency, known as XRP, can be used to represent any form of asset, such as dollars, pesos and even bitcoin itself.

This is actually incorrect.

The Ripple protocol can be used to settle EUR to USD directly, without touching XRP. Ripple is a currency agnostic, decentralized settlement protocol.

Agreed. They are just offering a fiat-to-Bitcoin and Bticoin-to-fiat exchange service. That is all. Unlike the regular banks, they are not offering any bonds, fixed-deposit schemes, loans.etc.

I would offered to change the name of a "bank" to something else

I think the competition has lost its meaning! Vote between countries is ridiculous, cos  each country  supports its neighbor (instead the best singer)
