Yeah it's tricky when you are first starting as you need to have a crypto to initially invest plus a wallet to hold the final product in.
First thing is to find a safe place to purchase bitcoin or ethereum. I would personally stick to the big companies.
If it's an ethereum token that you will eventually receive and the ICO doesn't have it's own wallet then I recommend MyEthereumWallet or as it's often called MEW.

Do your research though and only invest what you can afford to lose.

'As I known, ICO is a kind of risky investment. Similar to the IPO which is the form of invite for capital investment, but when buying IPO, investors can research the information about the company they invested, find out about official finance reports and be protected by law when joining. In contrast, ICO projects are often rather ambiguous and unprotected by government so the risk is so high for investors.
So how to evaluate a potential ICO project, look forward to receiving comments from you'.

Like most have already said do your research with the whitepaper, social media and website. I personally only invest in companies that are offering something that's needed or is fresh and original.

Claim free Bitcoin are scammers. Spent a lot of time and energy getting referrals for this when I first started with crypto. They changed the rules suddenly so you had to pay satoshi if you had over 50 referrals to join their VIP program.
They then banned me without reason as they didn't want to pay out. Check their play reviews for similar stories. Avoid.

I've always used coinbase and never had a problem. They have an app too which makes the process very efficient.

You could try downloading the Storm Play app. Use code NEA092 to get 6000 bolts. It's relatively easy to get bolts (the currency on the app), you just need to try apps and reach a certain goal or there is a faucet you can claim quite regularly too. Once you reach a certain amount of bolts you can exchange them for bitcoin, ethereum or Storm tokens.
