there are so many cryptos and I find it hard to identify the ones where I should have a closer look. Obviously one can find cryptos e.g. by listening to shilling on Reddit. But I'm looking for more professional sources like YouTube channels, free/ paid Telegram/Discord groups and so on. What do you use?
As far as I know, on the website of coinmarketcap the coin has good growth is usually ranked at the top. You can choose these coins to invest but sometimes these coins also have bad fluctuations.
Yes good Cryptos do not really hide themselves and security consciousness is firm and transparent

Re: What factors scare others from investing into bitcoin?
1. a big factor is : legal issue. it is not legal and not acceptable in all country. 2. also some people scare because bitcoin is not commodity, nor currency. 3. Prone to illegal activity As we know due to the lack of government control, terrorists and extortionists are also utilising the cryptocurrency space to their advantage. Bitcoins users on either end of a transaction can remain relatively anonymous and cybercriminals have found ways to mask their addresses, so it can be difficult for government authorities and companies to trace such illegal activities,
In my own view I think one of the reason for not investing in bitcoin is the fear of being scammed
