I have never experienced problems with my AMD GPU's. I was mining 24/7 with my gaming rig which has a GTX780, this recently just died and I have sent the card off RMA. As long as you keep the temperatures low as possible I do not think you will run into any issues.

One coin that has been on the back burner for some time now is GLD, GoldCoin. It has been creeping up in value and the network hashrate is picking up speed. I would not be surprised to see it on that list in near future. I created my own pool for it at gld.cloudmines.net and I am surprised at how many people jumped on it in such a short amount of time. I still think it is too early to judge Dogecoin but it seems to be gathering a lot of attention.

This coins success will come down to how much support it receives not only from the community(which seems strong at the moment) and the developers. I am not sure how well this coin is supported and how much time the developers are putting into at.

It doesnt hurt to mine some and keep them away in the event they do succeed.

Welcome fellow newbie. I cant believe I have not been to this forum before but I am glad to be part of it now. DogeCoin seems like it blew up overnight, saw one pool with over 200Mhash already, crazy....

I have started a couple new pools, these are both built on powerful servers with great connections. As of now we have had zero downtime and our member base is slowly growing. If you want to join a stable pool with  the occasional giveaway then come give us a try.
