Can anyone give me a tl;dr on LBRY?
I get this is like youtube but you get paid in LBRY to watch videos right? Anything else?

Was considering to ape into it as charts looks like accumulation going on. However already 20x'd since last March lows. Market cap not high yet.

Re: Can a big dump render Bitcoin unusable because of the mining difficulty?
by
CobraJ
on 01/05/2020, 06:39:42 UTC
Hi, I have this theoretical question.

What is a probability or feasibility of this scenario - Imagine that somehow dumps a large enough amount of BTC, so the BTC price goes 90-95% down *before* the next mining difficulty adjustment happens. Because of the price dump many miners will turn off their machines - still before the next difficulty adjustment, so the mining process slows down greatly, so let's say 1 block per day - which could take the price down even further, causing massive panic, etc...which could result either in BTC nuclear winter or the whole crypto nuclear winter or BTC being replaced by something else?

What are the competent opinions on this? I believe this question probably has already been discussed, so apologize for that, I just could not find anywhere :/

A follow up question would be - why is the mining difficulty adjusted after each 2016 blocks? Wouldn't it be better to adjust it like - 2016 blocks or two weeks, whichever comes earlier? Would not this make the whole network more robust against such possible attacks?

Thanks! Smiley

Most miners would stop; some would keep mining charging high tx fees, in the xxxx$ range perhaps, hence people with 50 bucks in their wallets would just forget about it whereas important transactions would be sent through anyway.
Slow days and yes, security risks of course but in case something dodgy had to happen there'd be a fork which would revert the blockchain to restart where the last legit block was mined so no biggie.
The real problem wouldn't be the problem per se, but people's reaction to it.
Once again.

Good thread.

Sacrifice scalability and make non-scalability an actual feature to keep BTC what it is: SoV which needs time to prove itself.

Don't download this as it is not the original metamask.

Shitstorm incoming for google.
They should be held accountable for people losing funds as a result of how poorly this situation (initiated by google) was managed.

I guess they have all the legal disclaimers needed to cover their asses when you download those extensions.

Unfortunately beside providing free services above average, they mainly care about making money out of you using them.

You are probably right, however if the right person got burnt by that we might see a class action.
Damn I hate google.

Nothing I said is a lie, and you are the one who is absolutely full of shit if you deny the evidence.
The link to etherscan is in front of everyone.

And no, first round was not a lottery if rules were hidden. Also 37 minutes "is not a few minutes" my ass. There was still confusion around certain things as a result of different information having been given out before, and the discord was going crazy.
People who didn't know the rules pushed transactions during ICO but those arrived (thanks to paying less than 1 ETH in gas fees) after ICO when the price per key was 1000x higher (over 1 eth per key), and lost everything. That's your "community" right there.  The "hundreds of participants" who broke even shouldn't be counted in the equation when other hundreds lost everything at the expenses of that 4000 ETH guy.
The winner was not selected randomly, but was simply someone who somehow knew exactly what to do.
You assume I lost ETH into this but I myself did not even play nor wanted to make a big fuzz about it, as what I said is what has been said pretty much in every 4 chan thread. You are just making a fool of yourself by displaying such low level of intellectual honesty.

However several people have a serious and reasonable concern about the way Fomo Quick was managed.

Long story short, only 1 person managed to get in ICO with a 4000 gwei transaction (which costed alone 1 eth), and after ICO was over great part of the dividends went to him, and interestingly enough he also was the one to win the jackpot.

This, together with the fact rules were unclear to everyone and only disclosed a few minutes before the start of the round, people have been left wondering whether this winner is part of the team or has been colluding with them.

Stop lying.

My guess is about a 100 times more people than you claim got in. Prove me wrong. It's transparent on the blockchain.

It has been obvious for months that there will be an "ICO". The time of it was announced a week before, developers warned the community that it will be a very short one. The actual duration was announced 37 minutes before start, in a Discord with 17 thousand members.

And do enlighten us how this "collusion" fantasy went on and how it would even be possible in the real world.

This arrogant attitude you can have it on your discord. Nobody here is scared of your low level bullying.
I have told you what people are saying, you like it or not. I have not said that I have the proof there was a collusion (or directly an insider job), however I do think it is a plausible hypothesis. Either it happened, or the fomo 3d quick fiasco was simply very poorly managed. The actual rules were given out only a few minutes prior to the start. Prior to this, incorrect information were given; I remember details such as the timer to be set as 90 seconds, a maximum  1 ETH donation per address, for instance. By doing that you gave zero chance to the community to make an informed decision; it was just a blind gamble based on the trust they had in you, and the result is in front of everyone. Next time, just don't be a prick.

They delete it because a lot of fake extension come out as Metamask so it could harm their user or make the people loss their money.

They deleted the original because there are many fake versions?
Makes perfect sense hey.

This token keeps falling and falling in price. Perfect example on how tokenomics are more important than how well a project is implemented or how good an idea is.
So many tokens were absolutely rekt by shit tokenomics in 2018. SAD!

Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning
by
CobraJ
on 28/07/2018, 03:53:02 UTC
This is what Justo from PoWH claimed after releasing his last game:

"For those of you not aware of what's happening, you're watching the death of proof of work. Byzantine fault tolerance is a concept that assumes a portion of all miners on the network will do their best to attack the network for profit. In general this is hoped to be quite low, in practice we put a bounty on exploiting it so the only transactions getting through are through non colluding miners. High gwei gas prices will still get you through (its designed to be just out of reach for this attack), they're throwing away a massive amount of ethereum to try this kind of exploit. But if they are successful, it'll spell an absolute death sentence for trust in the network. Fun. (Note, the below screenshot seems to be inaccurate now, the website used while etherscan was down was very unreliable still you were watching 1000 gwei transactions not go through for 2-3 minutes. Very interesting.)"

This is interesting.
If SHTF, it could mean an anticipated end of PoW for Ethereum.

Sounds like a lot of profits so far  Grin Glad to hear guys.

Remember it will only increase in velocity as the timer counts down! This one doubly pays to be early

Not necessarily. Actually this is kind of dead, like all the other clones.
The thing is - the success of F3D and P3D is not just about fun game mechanics.
It's also:
- original concept
- community (go have a look at their discord)
- trust. yes, because not everybody is able to audit a fucking 2000 lines solidity code.

It was basically impossible to get in the ICO. Only a couple of people made it with astronomically high gwei cost, and now a key will cost over 700$ (and there's already tens of thousands of keys so no point in getting in for the divis). This will be (or is already) a war between 2 players, then rinse and repeat. Massive P3D divs so far, and by Massive I mean Massive.
