Bitminter Throttles at 350MH/s on my 5850 cypress, how do I exceed this limit?
It's not throttling. BitMinter client always pushes the GPU as hard as it can. I always planned to add a feature for running it at X percent of capacity, but had no time, so it always runs full speed.
You can try overclocking to get a higher hashrate, it may not be worth the extra electricity though.
Please do add a less that 100% usage feature... I'm currently running two different cards (one is Nvidia), and I definitely don't want the Nvidia causing the 7970 to have to be underclocked to stay within a desired heat range for 24/7 usage.
Thank you for all the efforts for this client, it is otherwise great!

What do you need an ASIC for with 385 GH/s?
@Cobrabrr: just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting actually doing the illegal stuff. That's what botnets do. They use a large workforce, too - they just don't pay their workers as well...
I understand you weren't suggesting becoming part of a botnet... I was just saying I feel better about mining than contributing to that activity, even if it did pay better.
Please continue to update us with your ideas- there's nothing better than a new great idea to harness the power that we're all wielding as a collective community!

That was my hash rate before flashing to a higher voltage BIOS- I'm assuming you're using one of the newer 7970s? I used to game with Nvidia, and as much as I like my hash rate with ATI/AMD, it pisses me off that they've practically locked down the voltage on all the new boards...
Another thought, that often enters my mind, "What if by mining, at or above the cost of electricity, I'm just buying BTC at the cost of consumption? Every other form of revenue has energy costs, why is media harshin' me? Not trying to sound over-Libertarian posed, but I find myself hard-pressed to consider what my energy costs are, when driving to work and working on PCs anyways, as a systems analyst...

So far, I have participated in 2 pools, and one seemed to pay out better than the other, but then one got DDoS'ed and had a higher pay per hash rate when I returned, prompting me to return to that pool, even though it limited payment to after confirmation. My question is sort of ethically rooted; I want to provide consistent contribution to the pool, but I want to maximize revenue.
With the recent difficulty increase, I'm not sure what to do- mining at the single rig level @ the current market rate for BTC.

That is an excellent idea, and if it pays better than 25 - 30 cents (USD) a block, then I'm all for it. I definitely feel better about contributing to blocks, than doing shady stuff that is disruptive to consumers (SPAM. DDoS, etc.). This feels right, so if you find the answer, please do PM me! 
I'll believe it when I see the mining difficulty bolt forward immensely... Otherwise, it's developers getting theirs to maintain the hype of custom FPGA rigs masquerading as ASICs...
Is it environmentally responsible to have lights in your house? Enjoy a movie in a theater? Drive your fancy new electric car? Use any device which requires flowing electrons to operate it? (Which is pretty much every device on earth.)
It's how one makes electrons flow that counts. Bitcoin miners run on electricity, not coal, so if you then go make your electricity with coal, then I'd recommend you stop.
And lets not forget that the banking / finance sector uses mind boggling amounts of electricity for it to operate and keep all it's branches open, so let's keep it all in perspective now. Why aren't we complaining here that Bank of America should set the air-conditioners in all of it's buildings 1 degree warmer? Or upgrade 2 year old servers with new more efficient ones to reduce data center electric bills? Or or or.... Any one of a thousand small savings could probably run all of the bitcoin miners on earth several several times over.
Lastly, I've said elsewhere but bitcoin does spur efficiency since running costs come directly from mining profit unlike traditional banking which can dictate the amount of profit it wants to have from year to year.
So we can enjoy the cool breeze from our HVAC (or warmth from our mining rigs) and focus on smarter ways to power things. As this isn't a green power forum we can just let the matter rest because as far as bitcoin is concerned i think the original article that spawned this discussion was FUD.

I think you're considering things in the right light... a lot of people consider only what they're doing and what media tells them vs. what is currently done to gain revenue.
I totally understand the environmental impact of energy use, but right now, I'm waiting on my next work contract and sitting at home instead of using a car to travel 20+ miles round trip... would anyone here suggest that shutting down my rig would be beneficial to me financially?
I haven't used BTC since last year (exchanged as a currency, in less volatile times). It was medicine; I'm not sure if uploading a picture would be within the forum guidelines...

Much appreciated... I'm sure it's been done a million times by now, but I figured, "why not, I'm in the newb zone"!
But hasn't bitcoin competition advanced the development of efficiencies in power consumption OR doesn't it encourage that? Even before I began mining, I considered how it might do that for both the end user of such hardware and for massive data centers.

Consider if you had 3 workers (say 3x 7970s). Would it be better to direct them all at one pool, or have all 3 directed at different pools to maximize gains from pool luck? OR would it eventually be the same, statistically?
