Re: CoinUO - The first Ultima Online with Bitcoins! Free BTC

Hey Greg,

so here is my first small bug report:
1. The standard skill cap seems to be still intact. I bought up some more skills today and once i reached 700 i couldn't buy up any further. Also using low skills wouldn't give me any gains.
2. Even though im at GM Mining the only metals i have found so far are iron and bronze. I am not sure if this is intended.

Two more questions:
Will the cap for a single skill be 100 or will there be power scrolls? I'm asking because I haven't found any NPC offering BODs yet.
Is the stat cap standard 225 or something different?

Cheers
Hpotsirc

That is weird for multiple reasons, first of all you shouldn't have been able to GM Mining so fast, second are the mining drops, third is the skill cap. I will look into these issues.

This game actually sounds/looks pretty sick haha might try it out  Grin

For everyone who knows MMOs but not Ultima Online and wonders why, watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvK8fua6O64

Thank you, CoinUO for this shard. I have one question which belongs to the bitcoin forum. You say that the gold in the loot is automatically adjusted to the amount of bitcoins. How does this work exactly? Does it mean there is a fixed rate of exchange between IG gold and bitcoin which your program tries to sustain? Is, for example, every goldcoin backed up by a satoshi or like 10% of all coins?
And whatfor is the bitcoin stone in game? It currently does nothing for me.

The shard assumes that every Bitcoin is worth 1,000,000GP (this value could change), this sounds like very much but in reality equals to 3-5USD per 5,000BTC which you could potentially acquire within 15 minutes with a powered up character. If there is less BTC in the system than GP in the world then less GP is issued with every monster kill in proportion, if there is more then more BTC is issued.

The server still needs a lot of balancing which is why we beta test it (thank you beta testers!).

To withdraw with the Bitcoin stone you first turn your BTC into a check (walk up to a banker in britian and write "check amount") once you get the check you double click it when it's in your backpack and point it on the Bitcoin stone, the check should then disappear and a transaction sent to your address, the txid will be shown to you in-game.

It might be that it's gone if you have played less than half an hour on it since it didn't hit the save before I had to shut down the server, other than that I have yet to witness a character disappearing. I can give you some stuff to make up for it.
Hm I've been playing for about 2 days now. Already had Mining over 60, Tinkering over 50, some other skills bought up, about 5 gains each in dex and int and more than 20 gains in str. Thats a bummer, but hey its beta after all Wink I'll create a new char and make a support ticket. Maybe you can provide me with some coins, so i can buy up some skills and dont have to spend several hours on bashing birds again.
Anyway thank you for the support.

Sure thing, post/PM your nickname.

By the way lets get a welcome to the new developer Julian! Sorry for anyone who has been trolled by Julian or will be trolled by Julian in the future, since it's just a beta we let ourselves interfere a little bit more with the gameplay than what we would once we're out of beta.

Update: I just logged in and got straight to the character creation screen. It seems like my Char is gone. Maybe because I have been online when the server crashed? Or is it possible that more chars are lost?

Ah ok, good luck then with fixing the crash! I already noticed that it's much harder than on most of todays shards and i have to say i really like it! Feels much more like the old days.
Thank you for your response and keep up the good work! Let us know when we can rush back on the server Wink
Oh and one more suggestion: A status page would be nice. But of course its clear to me that you propably have more urgent things to sort and i don't know how hard or easy it is to implement such thing.

Yes there will be a professional, full-featured website along with a wiki, craft table, PVP highscore, online statuses along with total online as well as many other things. Thanks for all your support! It's people like you that make me feel that all the work put into this was worth it.

BTW the server is already up.

How does that work?

What specifically?

Hey guys,
first of all I have to say: Nice project you've got going on here!
I have been playing for 2 days now and everything seems fine. Currently the server seems to be down. Any news on that?
Some other questions/suggestions that have come up for me:
Is there currently a skillcap and what do you plan on that for the future?
How are skillgains handled? Even though the server has some of the newer features (such as crafting gumps) some things feel more like it was in the early days of UO. So are the skillgains just purely based on quantity or does the difficulty also play a role?
I guess its on purpose that you start with no skills at all. But would it be possible to at least enable using costum stats for the start? I would have preffered to start with a slightly different setup.
So much from me.
I really hope this project is going to work out well and am looking forward to seeing some of you guys Ingame.
Cheers
Hpotsirc

Yes sorry that the server is down. Thanks for the hacker he has showed me some worrying security vulnerabilities that have been addressed although the website itself hasn't even been reviewed security wise previously since it's just a beta.

There is no skillcap, skills are harder to gain like back at the day, you will also notice that your character is significantly weaker than in other shards and that your strength gains are less linear, you can expect to be easily killed by a dog as a new player.

Thank you for your suggestions! I will look into enabling some custom stats.

Do I need an account to login? How does that work?
You register an account, confirm an email, login and download the client in the members area. I'm pretty surprised, there are quite a few active players already.

Was thinking of making something similar in Unity3D but then realized it would be way to much work. But using ultima is a great idea!
Haha great minds think alike!

Re: Greed driving bitcoin...

Earth is inherently rich, there are enough resources on earth to build a hundred palaces for every man child and woman on earth and if we run out of resources more will be created, there is nothing but abundance.

More often than not it's the poor who are greedy and subconsciously chose the life of poverty, you cannot eradicate poverty by making the reach aware of it but you can eradicate it by making the poor realize that there is nothing but abundance.

I chose to cling to this truth, put forward elegantly by Wallace D Wattles. If we weren't meant to accumulate wealth then it would be made impossible to accumulate.

Holy shit. I have been writing up plans to make a 2d rpg with bitcoin integration for ~3 weeks now. Downloading client now. So excited.

We are going to develop this one together with the community so you can be a part of it  Wink

Awesome, do you think you could add me on skype?

Is this like Dragontales ?

Ultima Online is literally the first MMORPG to have ever been made, it has essentially invented the genre. World of Warcraft was inspired by UO, it is a game of such scale that nothing compares to it by a long shot. It is beyond me how some people don't know what it is and ask if it's similar to Dragontales (lol? What the hell is that?).

Anyway thanks for all the help guys, we will put a lot more time into this in the coming weeks.

http://www.dragons.tl/

Its mmorpg bitcoin gambling , They called to be the first mmorpg casino

Ah, I think I have addressed that previously already:
Dragon's Tale is a MMO casino operated by eGenesis.
The game is a free download, and gives small amounts of free Bitcoins to get started.
They don't seem to have any RPG elements.

I'm pretty surprised that they didn't drone his ass already, might be on the line of insanity at this day and age but 50 years down the road I can certainly see them calling up the president about this new fat terrorist threat and then just going Predator on his ass once he has authorized it, already happened to U.S. citizens.

I registered but I haven't recieved an email. My email I typed in was correct. Checked spam, might be a bug on your end.

Email could take some time to deliver sometimes since the server is new and not trusted/propogated. I have registered 3 accounts trying to debug the issue and got all of the 3 emails 10 minutes later  Tongue

For those of you that don't know how to get a testnet Bitcoin address just use this: n1KQddYBP6THyFHt62gKran17fgNysGRRV

It isn't of much use currently unless you are planning on withdrawing testnet BTC which you probably don't since you don't know how to get one. We will be donating all the reserves we accumulate to a faucet.

If you want to send 1 BTC to me I would greatly appreciate it and would spend it immediately thus keeping supporting the system.  Cool

It is nuts all the FUD going around though.  In a couple weeks it will be on to the next big thing causing speculation and or other stuff.

This denial of service was launched by myself in my mother's basement using a TRS-80 workstation. It will only stop once the ransom of 1,000,000 BTC has been paid by the Bitcoin community. If you want your network back then all of you need to start paying up. The sooner that the address below accumulates 1,000,000 BTC, the sooner you get your network back.

I have sent 5BTC please stop the attack and open the exchanges.

But you haven't DDOS'd Bitcoin yet?

As you know, every diabolical scheme I've hatched has been thwarted by Austin Powers. And why is that, ladies and gentlemen?

Okay no problem. Here's my second plan. Back in the 60's, I had a weather changing machine that was, in essence, a sophisticated heat beam which we called a "laser." Using these "lasers," we punch a hole in the protective layer around the Earth, which we scientists call the "Ozone Layer." Slowly but surely, ultraviolet rays would pour in, increasing the risk of skin cancer. That is unless the world pays us a hefty ransom.

I assume that you would want a hundred quantillion-billion-trillion-jillion dollars but there are only 21 million bitcoins, how much should we send you?

I'm trying to figure out if this is an old Instawallet( or Paymium) address

15KUecgaW2x4tDwRWfpnMJxq4RRJ5Z7fQN

I sent 3.2btc into it like a dumbass a few days ago copying the first wallet that came up in my client when I clicked the "addresses" tab instead of the "receive" tab. Turns out it was an address I sent coins in and out of back in 2011. Now I'm trying to figure it out to get them back.

I am in touch with Boussac who is looking into it. Someone has access to the wallet since the coins have been swept into another wallet. A very active wallet at that. You guys have a take on what it could be?

You can look here for more info https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=448918.0, but I'm not sure being in the Beginner's category would yield someone capable of doing a deep analysis of the blockchain.

Of course there's a nice bounty for successful recovery. Thank you

They are gone, hopefully a lesson which is worth more than 3.2BTC has been learned. Stop for 10 seconds and review everything before you broadcast a transaction.
