* Volumes are really down

I don't know which charts you are looking at, but I must be reading them wrong. The volume has been insane ever since the peak.

I'm looking at something like the following

How to make sure your machine isn't software key logged ?
by

Hi

I have 100% access to my machine or at least the repair / service guys do the service supervised

So a hardware key logger would be almost impossible

However a software key logger could be possible

How do I ensure that my machine does not have a software key logger ? I.e. that a software key logger isn't already on my machine ?

I use windows

TIA

see what happened next in my example:

That gap between April 6 and 7 was mtgox getting hit with ddos or going down due to volumes or something like that ..isn't it

But this current lull is far longer and lesser volumes ... Isn't it

just check the weekly monthly charts and you will see http://i.imgur.com/jGyKkpPl.png

* Volumes are really down
* Price very stable around $115.. 120
* Same scene last 12 hours +..even a little longer

Everyone asleep or is mtgox down or ?

This almost seems unreal

One might call it the "quiet before the storm".

Thanks for that  image

I was wanting to post that sort of an image but you are way better at it

I think this is mtgox going slow and frustrating a lot of users

Or ?

I find CampBX + Dwolla a fast'ish, simple and secure combo.

could you please explain a bit more ...how this works etc ? TIA

Hi Coincrazy, basically what you do is sign-up at: https://campbx.com/main.php, which is an exchange (like Mt.Gox).

They accept Dwolla, which can be signed-up to here: http://dwolla.com/

Dwolla accepts direct bank transfers, like Coinbase.

OH! Another place to buy from is Coinbase, but the only problem is that they limit you to 10/day until you hold your BTC for 30 days. Upon which they'll raise your limit to 50/day.

I hope that helps!

Thanks

Re: Linux from bootable USB, command syntax for locating all drives including USB
by

alright, I'll try but its hard to explain. I'm a graphical person so words are hard to come by.

If you use the list command, "ls", you can see the directories and other files on your current location. If you want more help, type in "man ls". I assume your distro has man pages installed but maybe not. If not just google, "man ls". I like to use "ls -hilt" which will list in an easy to read format

So now you know what is at your current location. So type "cd [some location]" to go to [some location].

Now I think you want to find out where your USB drive is. Well, I suggest typing "ls ../../" and DON'T hit Enter. Hit the TAB and you should see the structure of the directory above your home directory. Does this make sense? OK, now complete "ls ../../" with a directory you would like to search. The "../../" means one-up.

Hmm, I found a website that might better explain:

http://arachnoid.com/linux/shell_programming.html

I think it would be useful for me too.

Linux is best!

Thanks !!

Super help link this arachnoid page !

Which linux distro do you have running?

You should be able to open the terminal using CTRL+ALT+t or CTRL+ALT+F1.

basic commands:

cd [some place] = go to
for example, Go back to the topmost location by typing cd ~

In Ubuntu linux, you can find the usb drive by typing cd ../../ and then hitting TAB to give a list to show where you can go next. I think USB would be in a place called /media

You're going to have to read up on this but it's more simpler than DOS. That's what I think.

Terrific ....thanks

Opened the command line

Typed help to check list of commands

Still can't list all drives !!

Ay further help or URL would be appreciated

I too am searching google as we chat ...correspond here

Edit :
--------------
ok $ slusb gives me all devices connected

But again I haven't yet figured out how to read the directory structure on USB , how to install something on USB , does tha USB drive have a drive letter as in dos etc Etc

Yes ..I agree I need to read more

No there is only the multibit.org machine to download from.
It has a 100 Mb/s network card so you probably caught it when it was servicing a number of requests.

Downloads are at about 100 GB per day out of a theorectical max of 1 TB.

The 0.5.9 code is about 10 MB per download rather than 30 MB so that will help for a while.

Thanks Jim

Re: How I feel with people desperately buying above the $55 resistance...

its not meant to be a get rich quick scheme.  its still better than holding fiat IMO.

How is that?  Even at its worst most people in Cyprus will not have lost as much purchasing power or stored value as people who bought above $100.  Fiat, in most countries, is a much, much safer place to store money than bitcoin.

@ proudhon

you seem to be the celebrity on bearish predictions ...

So what's your prediction for this week ... I am NOT asking day ..by day or minute by minute ...but for this week

high - ??

Low - ??

Re: Bitcoin trades the inequity of dynastic power for the inequity of early adoption
by

I'm asking how many bitcoins are in cold storage? (metaphorical Fort Knox) There was a scandal in the 70's were people started to believe Fort Knox gold had been secretly sold and was circulating. I'm wondering the opposite. What if fewer bitcoins are circulating than we presume are. We don't notice because the velocity of the circulating coins is so high.

Of all the bitcoins I have ever bought, I have perhaps been "short" maximum 10% of the previous high coincount. So at least in my case, 90% is in cold storage.

Currently bitcoin's value is volatile as the market is trying to figure out whether Bitcoin should replace gold or not. If the answer turns out affirmative, bitcoin's value will roughly stabilize after more and more of the economical activity will be financed through self-liquidating bitcoin-denominated credit, as outlined in Fekete's paper.

(I wonder if Fekete himself realizes that his work will be applied to make Bitcoin the new gold  Grin )

For anyone interested, I think the upper bound for bitcoin's value is therefore the current Gold market cap, about $7,000 billion. So one bitcoin will not be worth more than $300k. Actually the utility of holding bitcoins when that is reached, is about the same as holding gold right now ( = most people think you are a little stupid, no matter how rich you are).

But to get there, the value must increase. Actually we were (in log scale) half there barely a few days ago. With the bitcoin's long term value appreciation of 25%, we can be there sooner than most of us think. Anything over $300k should be regarded as a bubble, even if we are in a "new paradigm", it does not mean everyone will be able to get rich just holding bitcoins, only the early adopters (i.e. every one who buys bitcoins for significantly less than its fair value of $300k).

LOL

If you think the fair value of a Bitcoin is $300k you really have been utterly deranged by avarice.  The hype is dying down, and the Bitcoin market is rapidly running out of 'greater fools'. The fair value of a Bitcoin for most people is zero, because that is the monetary utility it offers them. Whilst the novelty of being able to secure a small number of goods and services with Bitcoin will no doubt sustain the fanatics, it will not maintain the interest of many beyond that group.

I don't know fair value

Market value is down but NOT dead

Volumes are up (from mtgox weekly chart) http://wp.me/p3o0fk-1c

Hi everyone, Im just wondering if people in general would like an easier way to get bitcoins?

there are sights now that let you buy bitcoins as long as they have bitcoins but usualy dont and they charge a 1% fee, also you need to set up an account and verrification procces and all this hoop la that takes about four - five days.   come on this is (at least here) AMERICA and we have the attention span of a one year old. also once you buy them you have to wate about a week or two to get them. plezzzzz

so what other options? a shady moneygram cash deposit? that falls threw the cracks and if you try to call or email or live chat that is not live you get what? nothing. 400 down the drain and a big pain in the butt.

now whats left? options are scarce and people want it cheep and easy.

what if there were some sort of way that could get you your coins quick and easy. one way would be a credit card, just type in your numbers and how much you want to buy and the destination bitcoin address and bam you get your coins. but the problem here is with a CC you get people who might dispute the charges and then what, you cant get your coins back because they are gone, they are anonymous.

so that got me thinking what if there was a way that let you buy bitcoins in about a day, a 2% fee (in the middle of 1% for the five day set up thing and a 4% for the coins in a few hour thing.) and in about a day you get your coins.  Im thinking what if people went and got those green dot money cards, they put however much they want to spend on it, they send the start up company the coad on the back, they then verify the funds and wait till they get funded (about 4 hours max) then they see what the going rate is and send them the coins to the bitcoin address that they gave them. you cannot dispute charges on a greendot money card, so no problems with the merchant and you can be anonymous as a buyer with this.

this would take less then a day to processes but just to be safe it would say about a 24 hour turn around.

ok now give me your thoughts on this, would you be interested?
do you see any problems that may arise of such a company were to start up.
would you use this service?
would you feel more or less comfortable using this service compared to the others out there?
do you think there is a market for such a service?

let me know, please CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, I dont care if you think its a bad idea but tell me WHY you think this and how to solve any issues that it might have.

thank you kindly everyone!!!!  (got a little bit longer than i wanted)

+10

Yes. We need faster ways to buy

I've already voiced these feelings here

In other news, the China markets are way below Gox, which is rare. I'm looking to see a spike there.

where and how do you see the china markets ?

That is why with Gold as a currency and land a property Royal families could say Royal for generations

This is true but Royal families failed to see the paradigm shift the industrialists create with fractional reserved banking and new forms of wealth ultimately leading them to there demise.  Bitcoin creates a new paradigm shift of equal proportion.  It may even allow for a solutions to the problems Marx's struggled with - reconciling land as property in Adam Smith's free market.

In my country IF the Royals still held on to their land and gold, they would be reallllly...reallllly royal.

They could not for a variety of reasons is another story
