Woohoo, my new S7 is plugged in too Kano and hashing away...I know Im a big player now with an S5 AND an S7  Grin

Question:
Does an S7 normally run a little (~8C) hotter than an S5?

Crash
s5 is a 600 watt heater
s7 is a 1200 watt heater
Thanks Wolfen

Quick question:
Is it normal for an S7 to run hotter (~8C) than an S5, given the same operating environment?

Crash

Yes, I would call this normal. The S5 uses ~600 watts, the S7 uses ~1200-1400watts.
Thats twice the heat output from a same size miner. The S7 is then going to be hotter, given the same input/ambient temperature
Of course, thanks

Hmm.. Should we be worried about this? I'm pretty sold on the S7 and i think it's the phone i'm going to get. I know this sounds funny, but since it's waterproof, can we just wet it to get the temperature down.
Water cooled could be an option, but how would I be able to make calls?

prefer a pool (kano.is of course) but I have solo as a 2nd preference for when kano is not available

What s/w do people use to monitor their miners?

Rather than going to each miner individually to check performance, temp, freq etc, is there s/w that looks at all miners on the network and reports the results in an easy, good UI, format?

Great to see such a pre-eminent organisation releasing papers, and in draft, for free.

Not having yet read the paper, but commenting purely on the picture:
The similarity isn't accurate: An individual of moderate means can still afford to contribute meaningfully at the ASIC level for BITmining, unlike gold mining.
Basic infrastructure for an ASIC can cost about $1k with a moderate-low ROI, but still some ROI, unlike Gold mining at the pit mining level. Even 1 truck, or digger is so unfathomably beyond reach of the average joe it is just ridiculous.

The scales just do not compare.

Couple of node questions guys:
1) I'm in south eastern Australia: which node should I be pointing to?
2) Why? as in does it matter?

The nodes increase the propagation speed of the blocks found by the pool.
They also will attempt to submit a block, if you find one and are mining to a node, before the main pool node will submit it.
If your ping time to the node and to the main pool are similar, then mining to the main pool will be best.
If they are quite different, 100-200ms (or more) different, then mining to the node is appropriate.
So I worked out how to ping:
main ~200ms
jp ~ 330ms &
sg ~ 130ms

So I should point to singapore?

Crash
While singapore is a little faster (70ms), not being very close to singapore and knowing how routing from Australia to the rest of the world can be random, I'd probably still suggest connecting to the main pool node in your specific case.
Ok, thanks

I'd point it to Kano house, he's the closest to you and you would get sub 10ms latency. Grin Grin

Ping each node and see whats best, but I think the main kano.is will give you the best response.
I'm using stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 at the moment, is that what you mean by kano house?
And forgive the ignorance, but how do I ping the nodes?

Set them up as a per any gaming rig to play your favourite PC game while your ASIC miners crack on and get you some mBTC

Which value is better "Worker Management\Minimum Diff" for S7?
The pool will automatically set it optimally for you.  Don't worry about it, as I understand it manually tweaking it doesn't do much good in the long run anyway.  Trust the code -ck and kano-san are running, best out there!
I agree, let the system automatically set it. If you were to do it manually, you'd need to be constantly revising it anyway.

I'll do the same! Count me in

Nice Gestures guys, but 10,000 Satoshi is only 4 pennies and that requires 20 people to opt in.  You will need   256,000 satoshi for $1.  That will require 512 people to opt in.  There's currently only 706 users on Kano pool so even if everyone opt in, that's not much more than a $1.
hmm, I didn't calculate.. you are right.. Well, then I will donate 0,005BTC which is ± $2. I hope others will donate too, we owe it to Kano and -CK for all their hard work.
I'm in for .01 each as suggested. To Kano, CK and 500th block maker! Thats .03 and I have certainly done better then PPS here as everyone has.

Kano.is found 498 blocks now. How are we gonna celebrate block 500 ??  Grin

I will send 500 satoshi to the finder of Kano CK Pool Block #500, KANO and -CK Grin if every miner on this pool does this they will get a nice bonus. I guess everybody can afford 1500 satoshi to spend.

That is what i'm getting in bfgminer and cgminer is not working in my system.
Omitting it I entered the URL username password.

--Pool 0 is hiding block contents from us--

The miner showing is this message. What am i supposed to do now.
I think people need more information to be able to help:
What is your miner device?
What is the pool you're trying to join?
What operating system you running?

For starters...

Avalon has shipped the next Avalon6 to our 2nd winner kilowatt Smiley
I've added the winning details to the first post
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.0
as below:

Pool block 488:
https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/block/396089
Worker: kilowatt.3
Found: 2016-02-01 05:54:54+00
188.492% of expected Difficulty
CDF of 0.848

... and yes the 3rd month competition will be changed a little, and certainly be CDF related Smiley
Hi kano,
Do you have to register for the competition, or just be mining and be eligible?
