I suspect it's all of these, in no particular order:

- lost coins through hacks, maybe years ago
- FBI seizings
- malfunctioning MtGox code
- mismanaged cold wallets
- fractional reserve speculating


All these contributed to the sorry state they are in now. Maybe they sold coins to fund their liquidity problems in August, only to see the price of bitcoin skyrocket, catching them with their pants down. Maybe they misplaced some vital private keys. Who knows?

All I know is that they didn't lose 800k in bitcoins through transaction malleability and nothing else. That's bullshit.

Makes sense to me. Either Gox is insolvent and you lose (almost) all. Or they get their act together and you'll get very cheap coins.

I wouldn't risk it, but once you're knee-deep in GoxBux you might as well try to make the most of it.

You need to be in place when a something interesting happens, and even with bitcoin sometimes weeks go by without major opportunities.

Truth to be told, I'm more comfortable holding Bitcoin, nevermind the current market price.

Sure, if you sell at the peak and buy at the bottom, you can pocket the change if done correctly. But it's a lot of stress and sleepless nights for maybe a 20% profit, if executed perfectly.

Or you can just buy some Bitcoin every now and then and hope it will go up over time, just like it always has.

Er zijn vast wel een stel Nederlanders die sinds afgelopen november/december meer dan 20k Euro aan bitcoins hebben. Dus ongetwijfeld zijn er nu al een paar de belasting aan het ontduiken. Bewust dan wel onbewust.

Maar, nogmaals, dat wordt pas een probleem als je het geld naar een bank transporteert.

In Nederland moet er hoogstwaarschijnlijk vermogensrendementsheffing betaald worden, de 1,2% over je vermogen boven de vrijstelling van 21k.

Dat je bitcoins hebt, daar komt de belastingdienst niet vanzelf achter. Tenzij Bitonic (of een andere partij waar je het gekocht hebt) doorgeeft voor hoeveel Euro je Bitcoins hebt gekocht. Of wanneer je probeert uit te cashen en je opeens een miljoen op je rekening stort. Dan kun je wel vragen verwachten

Mijn tip, heb je echt een groot vermogen aan bitcoins, verhuis dan naar Duitsland. Dan betaal je alleen belasting als je ze binnen een jaar uitcasht.

Ja, dat dus. Je pakt vrijwel gegarandeerd ~10% maar dan neem je wel een gokje dat MtGox zolang overeind blijft. Ik heb echter geen vertrouwen meer in de Magic The Gathering Online Exchange, dus ik begin er niet aan.

Dan gok ik net zo lief op het feit dat bitcoin blijft stijgen. Als je deze truc had gedaan in november had je de grote 500% bump gemist.

10 jaar is te veel. Of bitcoin haalt binnen enkele jaren al de 10.000 Euro of we komen daar nooit.
Dat moet waarschijnlijk ook gewoon om de stroomkosten van de miners te blijven betalen, maar ik heb niet alle cijfers voor dat rekensommetje.

Wapens uit het buitenland kopen gaat wel een stuk gemakkelijker via bitcoin dan met cash. Bank transfers zijn natuurlijk helemaal uit den boze.

Daar staat dan wel weer tegenover dat de transactie altijd via de blockchain te achterhalen is. Kwestie van tijd voordat justitie daar gebruik van maakt en dat is een goede zaak IMO.
