A short update  for our CryptBit community:

We are glad to see all the community members helping each other in the thread here – this allows more time us to concentrate on the work at hand. The process of integrating the blackcoin codebase with the new V3 has been proceeding quite well. This work is available for everyone to follow at github, including a new POS3 beta wallet in draft form.

Our POS3 dev has submitted an evaluation indicating that progress on POS3 is moving much quicker than anticipated. With all other aspects approaching readiness for Protocol V3 by the end of the month, we have decided to move up our release schedule  for V3 in CryptBit. This means CryptBit will  be the first masternode coin operating on protocol V3.

We’ll be looking for a few community members to help with testing the latest codebase – staking, sending & receiving, even setting up masternodes. If you are interested and have time to be a part of this, send us a pm and we will be in contact this week.

I have some questions about setting up my mn. Which IP addy do I use? IPv4 or DNS Servers? Also, does the wallet need to be unlocked to receive mn staking rewards and is there a way to tell how many confirmations I have left? I don't see payment of 13k coins in my transaction history.

First time I set up my mn the wallet crashed, wondering if there are things I can look for to see that it was setup correctly.

If the wallet crashes, the masternode is still there, so just go back and press "get config" and continue following the video guide for setting up one masternode. Important to send exactly 13342 to the collateral address -  no more no less. be careful to account for transaction fees.

Well I got my masternode running by sending the coins to it's collateral address. Now I'm wondering how to create a second masternode with the same wallet. When I try to create a second one, the wallet crashes and when I reopen it, my original masternode is deleted and replaced the the new masternode I just created.

Do I need to start a new instance of the same wallet so I can run two wallets at the same time?

The easy setup procedure for masternodes only supports one masternode being created. If you want to run more nodes you can use the following guide: https://dashpay.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=1867877

A bit more advanced, but it works.

We are continuing our series of posts going into greater detail about the different parts of the CryptBit platform and how they fit together. Previous posts dealt with 2FA and CryptBase.com. In this post we'll take a look the the upcoming POS3 and masternodes, both structure and function.

Masternode and Protocol V3

As we have previously noted, we have started already to implement the the protocol V3 from Blackcoin. This process is a methodical one: we move over sections of code and beta test each commit.  We proceed by adding commits until the complete codebase is ready.

Our current workflow has the full protocol V3 ready by end of October. We have a branch at Github where anyone can watch our progress or even test the source.  https://github.com/cryptbit/cryptbit/tree/protocolV3 Don't test it with actual coins yet as we still at beta stage. However, that much said, so far everything works well and we are pleased with the progress that is being made.

When all commits are tested and implemented for protocol V3, we will start with the V1 branch for the CryptBit's Masternode TX Guard, which will add an additonal optional protection layer for outgoing transactions. This is the first of several important functions the masternodes will carry out for Cryptbit. Development-wise, the whole concept of  masternodes is currently a very wide-open and exciting area. There is so much tech, and so many interesting network implementations and ideas, that this will be a very fertile area for us in the coming months. We are confident in our the design of our masternode network and the underlying codebase, and we will be looking to add new features as they come along - especially features that strengthen the various functions of CryptBase.com. The ultimate beneficiary of all this development, of course, is the end user. It is particularly gratifying to being doing work with this sort of beneficial outcome.

With the end of the ICO distribution and node setup have begun in earnest. Masternodes are designed to be a key part of CryptBit, providing us with a strong network that will underpin everything we do. We encourage everyone who has qualified for masternode status to go ahead and set up their node(s). It only takes a few minutes and is quite easy to do. If you have not used the video guide & info already posted, here it is again:

ICO is now concluded. C-Cex is responsible for the actual termination of the ICO phase. Once this is in motion we will be posting the download links for the wallet and the block explorer. PLEASE NOTE: ONLY USE LINKS IN THE OP.

We have been notified that there are 50 minutes left in the ICO. So still an opportunity for all : -)

CryptBase.com in a Nutshell:

CryptBase is all in one secure wallet and trading exchange. Our users can easily buy directly into BitCoin or Cryptbit as a way to securely store and transfer their wealth. As a registered company (pending) our goal is “ease of use” for our end-user. Sometimes less is more and our interface will be clean and simple while keeping the complicated programming working seamlessly along with our minimalistic user interface. With funds raised by investors, we will be able to launch CryptBase with the right technology and afford to offer 24/7 tech support through support tickets, chat, and telephone. At CryptBase.com our main focus is ease of use and customer satisfaction.

Digital currencies are indeed the future of wealth storage, digital transactions, and security. Security is where the CryptBase excels. Our vault feature will offer the highest levels of personal cold security for both CryptBit and Bitcoin. Create your account, add one or more approvers, and then add the layers of protection you are comfortable with. Set your coin time delay, notification options, and withdraw limitations; then you’re all set!

- 2FA via Google Authenticator or text message.
- Email confirmations
- CAPTCHA security
- Custom time delay
- Max daily limits

From the OP:

CryptBit investors will also have a proportionate ownership stake in CryptBase.com.  At the beginning CryptBase will focus exclusively on fulfilling the cloud-based security suite mission of CryptBit. Once all features are fully functional and operating smoothly in conjunction with the local security suite, we will be turning our attention to expanding the scope of CryptBase operations.

It is clear there is a larger future for CryptBase. We are in early discussions with potential angel investors, and it is this larger future that they are very much focused on. By applying for the requisite financial regulation and status approvals, CryptBase has the opportunity to become for alts what CoinBase has become for bitcoin. We intend to proceed with this avenue and become a fully approved entity with regard to FinCen and other applicable agencies.

This is a long process. Along the way we will continue to grow and develop the CryptBase product, including our legal and financial programs. This will require substantial venture capital investment. Obviously this will lead to a dilution of the original CryptBit shares. However we are committed to retaining core value for our original investors. At least 20% of this greater valuation of CryptBase will be retained for original CryptBit investors. If Cryptbase is successful, this valuation will be far, far higher than the original numbers. Our commitment means that as CryptBase matures and begins to see profitable revenue streams from operations, 20% of revenue dividends will accrue to the original CryptBit investors.

The signal-to-noise ratio here in the forums can get a bit out of balance. To restore that a bit we will be making a series of posts over the next days that will explore more in depth the main security solutions we are implementing in CryptBit.

We realize that some of the tech in CryptBit can seem somewhat esoteric to the average user. Our goal is to make these solutions user oriented to the average user, so handling your crypto in a much more hardened and secure fashion becomes the rule, and not the exception. To this end we will be taking some time to explain how these different security layers fit together and the reasons behind them.

Please note – several of our devs do not have English as first languages. Please cut them some slack when reading their posts if their method of explaining things reflects this.

Post 1: The 2FA layer

At the heart of the CryptBit Suite both locally and in the cloud is the 2FA layer. Most people use 2FA in exchange log-ons already. Our 2FA will act as a master layer atop all crypto wallets on your local device, as well as all wallets you choose to maintain in the cloud. Once you have authenticated via CryptBit 2FA you will have immediate access to all wallets – hence “single layer” 2FA.

2FA is simply the best security implementation currently in wide use that ensures the person accessing your wallets is actually you.  With 2FA in place, is no longer enough to access your wallets remotely, or steal them, or steal your device, or confiscate it. CryptBit will be implementing more advanced layers of security as options as well – but right out of the gate, 2FA is an obvious and user friendly solution that – until now – has not been available in this form.

When you activate CryptBit on your system you can either automatically or manually assemble your wallets under your 2FA. You will also have the option to add a master password. Once the 2FA layer is activated it will remain operational so long as you have the minimum balance in your Cryptbit wallet. Should your wallet balance fall below this level, the 2FA layer is deactivated and you once again have access to all you wallets - without the CryptBit security layer.

We are currently aiming for a late October release of the 2FA system. Our work behind the scenes on CryptBase.com is moving along more rapidly than expected, and it may well be that we enable trial functionality for testing purposes already on individual accounts for a select group of the early registrants.

Our motivation for all of this is to make security a much more consistent part of the daily operating habits of the average crypto user. As crypto users, we all have a shared vision of where things are going – evolutionary speaking  -  concerning personal assets, crypto, and the growing  obsolescence  of government-backed currency solutions. At the current time however, crypto security for the average user cannot be said to have kept pace with this evolution. Much less the evolution of the darker forces and their technology  - the various people who would like access to your personal crypto – both the criminals and the authorities

It was out of this recognition that CryptBit was conceived, and so it is fitting that a simple, easy to use  2FA layer is our first developmental priority.

In our next post we’ll be taking some time to look at CryptBase.com

Development Updates / Video:

Masternodes have been deligently tested and are working flawlessly. Here is a video we made to show operators how to set it up in the wallet. We want all masternode operators to have a fair crack at the DPOS from day 1. Enjoy this tutorial video and make sure to enable Closed Captions to view the instructions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i44W6Z_5oP8

Now it's full focus on in-wallet security and encryption tools such as 2FA. As a side note, CryptBase is coming along nicely as well so expect more updates in the days and weeks to come.

What is POS 3.0  Huh

POS 3.0 or "Proof of stake protocol 3", it advances on Blackcoins protocol 2  that is one of the most secure and used protocol for proof of stakes coins. POS 3.0 will be more secure and stable and one thing that stands out is no need for coinage as coins will be staked based on confirmations, it's still a work in progress and when the final specs are out we are ready to go, we will have a separate branch at github for protocol 3 and work from there.

Dev will I be able to run a masternode and stake with left over coins?

Many asked if you can stake and be a masternode at the same time, and no the masternode wallet can't stake, or we can't have it to stake, as you need 13342 CBIT as collateral or we can call it Proof of Service.
And I would advice not to have any left over coins there in the wallet you run as masternode, as you need to send exactly 13342 CBIT to the collateral address. It would be better to start up a second wallet and transfer the remaining coins to it.

Ok I will do just that. But is it possible to have two wallets on the same computer?

Yes, there are several guides out there, basically you want to have different datadirs setup one with a masternode edited conf file and one datadir with normal settings.

There have been many questions concerning the various tech implementations, our block chain structure, and how CryptBit and Cryptbase will be evolving in tandem. We have put together a release schedule that should answer many of these questions. In additon, one of the block chain devs will be checking in periodically over the next days. English is not his first language so there may be some less than fluent phrases - but we belive it will be a good opportunity for some discussion of many of the more technical aspects of CryptBit.

Nice! Cant wait for 2016.

How will the facial recognition work?

There is a popular algorithm that most security analyst use to save key mapping points from facial structures into a database. For Cryptbit users, this database will be encrypted as saved locally. Users can choose to save data points for an unlimited number of users and login locally, securely, and without any concern for hacking breaches or other malicious intent.

OK, I read more of the OP and I see the Masternodes are part of the whole security deal. I'm confused and concerned about this automatic detecting and encrypting my wallets for me. Will the user at least get some input on what the passwords will be for the encryption? Will I be able to store these on an alternate program like Keepass? I would hate to go below the 5000 coins required for me to use the security features and find that I am now locked out of all my coins. Shocked Huh Huh

The masternodes are an integral part of our multilayered security approach, providing a final layer of security for outbound transactions. Ordinarily, involving masternodes in this sort of role woul lead to an unacceptable decline in network speed. However, by integrating libsecp256k1 into our blockchain design we are completely offsetting that potential problem. In fact, we expect users will experience network speeds and tx times that are noticeably faster than any other coin currently out there.

With respect to your passwords and security levels: you will be able to choose from several different levels of password security. Within this system you may keep your old passwords and at the very simplest level, simply layer a single 2FA protection across all your current wallets. A range of progressively more secure options will also be available to security conscious users . Dropping below the minimum coin account simply removes the CryptBit protection. It does not affect your wallets themselves.
