Re: discouraging small miners only to quell compition?

That's true, but trains can get expensive as well, but its a hobby that has been long established i mean years and years compared to mining, I think some are in it for the money, and with more people getting involved the difficulty increases meaning for some people they have spend more to make more. For that reason I can see why they may be some. But I think the majority are concerned that people are letting themselves in for more than they bargained for. However I feel that perhaps if every one was just mining purely for hobby and not for profit, I think that some of the bigger machines would not be needed and the difficulty would decrease but such is the way of the world

the fan will only come on when it starts getting hot, have you not accessed the web interface, that will give you a better idea if its working or not

I started mining in about nov/december last year,
All I had was a laptop and bought a usb block erruptor of e-bay, then my hobby slightly became an obsession from that I now have an S1 a block erruptor blade, about 5 U1 4 U2 (Purchased with mined BTC) 3 Bitfury and 1 Bi*fury. I started small but slowly getting bigger. I look at it its better then a train set. So in that regard if its something you want to do then do it, just be aware that you may put more money into it than get back.

I think if you search there should be something to help. But you need to download the bitcoin client, and point your miner to it, can't remember the port so something like -o http:197.0.0.1:9333 -u (username) -p(any). I believe cgminer is should be good to do this

I had the same prob a while back, turned out to be driver issue with the miners, I just sorted the drivers out and it was fine. How do you start bfg via the .exe program directly or load up the command program in windows and search for the .exe

That means that you missed a few commands.  I made a sure-fire way to get it done every time.  Try this:
Code:
cd /usr/bin/
wget http://kano-kun.net/AntS1/cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c
chmod +x cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c
mv cgminer cgminer.original
rm cgminer
ln -s cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c cgminer
reboot
[/quote]

I got to wget part after entering still says wget: can't open 'cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c': file exits
