Thanks for the tips and feedback. to clarify, I am NOT mining on this GPU, just using it for graphics on my personal PC. All of my mining rigs have been on SMOS for many months for just this reason of continual problems with Windows/Radeon drivers.

I think the best option at this point would be to flash the 470 back to original timings, but I have long lost my records of those timings that i took a snapshot of before flashing.

What would be the recommended method to flash back to factory timings?  It's been about 5 years since I strapped these 470's and I'm sure things have changed a lot since then.

Thanks again!

Driver issues with MSI RX 470

Had a dreaded W10 update hit my personal PC overnight and now I can't get a driver to work on my MSI 470.

I am not mining with this but I previously was on another machine and so it does have the standard strap method BIOS mod on it.  In the past, I was able to get it to work after an update by using DDU but having no luck this time.  This is what I have tried with about 5-6 different Radeon drivers, including most recent for 470's (22.2.2 & 21.10.2) and even some really old ones like 19.9.2 & 17.12.1

- Reboot to safe mode
- Run DDU 18.0.4.9 & reboot
- Install Radeon Driver package

First few times I just rebooted right away but wasn't working so...

- Tried running Pixel Patcher 1.4.12 directly after driver install (before rebooting)
- Found values and success patched & signed driver

Rebooted afterwards but still no luck (getting the super wide & large graphics on screen) and the dreaded Code-43 showing up in Dev Mgr.

So, was wondering if anyone running 470's (either mining or not) on W10 could share what drivers they are currently using. Really baffled by this as I've done it dozen of times successfully both on this personal PC & many mining rigs (before moving those to SMOS).

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Yeah Phil... good to see 2 straight days of network hashrate drop... hopefully that trend will continue.  I just did some calcs and my 12 remaining 470s are still netting 40 cents per day per card profit.  Not a lot obviously but for cards that are fully depreciated, will likely keep them going at least through 2 more dags.  Luckily, i got my other 2 470 rigs converted over to a 6x 5600XT rig and a mixed rig with my lone 470 8GB, a 5600XT and the 2 5700's that i had to pull off my 5700XT rig due to a power supply issue.

On another related topic, is anyone here dual mining ETH + ZIL?  If so, can you provide a brief explanation or link on how it's done?  I've read that contrary to true dual mining (like the ETH + DCR i used to do), that it actually switches over to ZIL only for like 1 minute every 2-3 hours?  This seems strange to me and also, when i plug in numbers to a ZIL mining calculator, it always comes out at a loss, so there is probably something I am missing.  ZIL price has gone through the roof lately so seems like something to explore.

Phil, you must be loving your DogeCoin hodl right about now!  I noticed it's up to nearly half a cent now and one of top gainers last 24 hours!  I have a bit but not nearly as much as you so congrats!

Thanks Phil! I appreciate the suggestions and the merit!  it's pretty frustrating to be forced to start with a fresh account, but all things considered, this forum was probably one of the least damageable as far as hacked accounts go.  btw... those MSI 470's you sold me back in the day are still running solidly! Although only for a few more days since that's the rig i am converting to 5600XT, but they more than earned their keep :-)

Question for Phil or others mining ETH with 5600XT's on SMOS...

What settings are your using for non-BIOS-modded cards?

For my 5700XT rig, I am using the following:

- Core MHz: 1300
- Memory MHz: 900
- Memory UV (MVDD): 1300
- Memory UV (MVDDCI): 800
- Aggressive undervolt: On
- Power Stage:  5

Is this config also recommended for 5600XT?  Or, should i tweak a few of these parameters?

(btw, my old username was GabryRox and i had a good history on these threads. but that acct was hacked a few months back so i had to create this new acct)

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

i believe you will see the decrease in about 10 dags after the 4gb limit is actually hit.  Maybe sooner depending on os etc.  LOL posted a chart showing when it slowed and i want to say by like 7 dags its was down considerably.  Ill try to locate it.  Useful info....my 4gb are still going on linux.

Yes this is the post he is referring too. Basically for some reason my rigs stopped on Epoch #381, while for others it should work until #382, strange. It seems that the speeds are "ok" until Epoch #385 which hashes at 82% from full speed, which is around year end. Epoch #390 and on are just not worth it at hashing 50% speed. So I would say you can use it for 3 more weeks and then think about getting 8GB gpus because its going to be highly unprofitable by then.

So, I am using SMOS with PhoenixMiner v5.3-fix and have seen the expected dip in h/r with 4GB cards.  Even though this table shows that linux wont take a hit on Dec 11th, that is when my first hit occurred and then another one a few hours ago. I highly recommend this combo as it allows robust monitoring through SMOS dashboard.  Granted, that reduction is not optimal but certainly better than the alternative of not working at all and clearly still profitable at least for a few more weeks.

I just got my final 5600 XT today so will likely be converting over 1 of my 470 4GB rigs this weekend, then just let the other 3 chug away until no longer profitable.  From there, it's a question of whether top try to sell off all 4GB or mine something else with them.  Will be selling the ones off the new 5600XT rig so probably see how that goes then re-asses.  The somewhat silver lining is that with the huge GPU shortage, even these old cards are getting more on ebay. Of course, they will likely change when the glut of them hit in the coming months, but something to think about.
