Non overclocked - 330Kh/s
Mild overclock - 360Kh/s
Max overclock - not tried yet but 400 Kh/s should be obtainable without issue.

I am working on some secret sauce to make Kepler generation devices even faster.

Hi Christian:

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before.

Do you recommend running cpuminer concurrently with cudaminer?

Thanks in advance for your input and all  your hard work.

I wanted to give my stats:

GTX 580 using 331.82 drivers

Using Cudaminer 11/20/2013

Win 7 X64

options: -H 1 -l F16x14

Auto-tuning was using F32x8 which was averaging lower than what I am getting using F16x14.

avg about 230 khash/s

I was using the 64 bit version but I was only averaging about 200 khash/s

Using about 95% of GPU running at a temp of about 83 degrees Celsius.

I believe this is the best I can expect running a stock GTX 580 with no overclocking.

I think you should get more than that as i get 230Kh/s from a 560ti 448 core. Maybe try F16x16? oh and -i 0.

Hey fruittool:

Thanks for the tip. GPU usage has increased to 99%.

I am now hitting a max of 240 khash/s.

GPU Core running at 85 degrees Celsius.

Update:

I started using -C 1 option.

My lowly vanilla GTX 580 now maxes at 259 khash/s!  Grin

What if you're trying to solve a block and someone else solves at first, was all your time wasted?

Effectively, yes.  Mining is a race, winner (of the block) takes all.

Fascinating discussion. I was not aware of this.

Now, I feel like I'm at the racetrack.  Shocked

It is incorrect (and a common misconception).  Nothing is wasted when someone else solves a block because there is no "progress" towards a block.  Each hash is like a lottery ticket.  It either wins or it loses.  Nothing more.  Having a thousand losing tickets means they are still losers regardless of if someone else wins or not.

If you mine a quadrillion hashes that fail to meet the difficulty target, you are no "closer" to solving a block then when you first started.  Each hash is an independent roll of the dice.  It either solves the block or it doesn't.

Hi DeathAndTaxes:

Thank you for your insight.

I find this process of seeking the "right" hash quite stimulating.

Question:  Would you agree then, that if one has the money to buy a supercomputer, then it would behoove one to put the supercomputer to work on solving for the correct hash. I reason that since this supercomputer can process hashes at such a phenomenal rate that the "odds" of finding the key hash are bound to  increase and therefore he/she would get all the credit for achieving the difficulty target. In other words, the faster one can process hashes the better the "odds" are towards solving a particular block. Hence, the whole rationale for pooling if you disregard the desire to earn crypto-coins.

Would you agree?

Thanks for your input!

CryptoLego: I don't get it ... you have basically the same set up as me yet I get the dreaded "Unable to query CUDA driver" ... what have you installed that I have not??  Huh

Any suggestions would be great! Smiley

I noticed that,  but I'm such a noob at this I was not sure what to suggest.  Huh

I did receive a similar error when I first ran cudaminer. I realized it was due to a syntax error. I was not using the -u and -p flags for username and password. I pulled a example from the server pool that I am using and I noticed the difference.

I'm not sure what else to suggest.

Hopefully, someone with more experience will be able to assist you.
