I've just found this comment on falkvinge.net and I think this is excellent explanation about what is now happening to Laiki Bank and why this situation is unfair and unconstitutional.

Quote
According to the “resolution measures” (the rules they just made up to give special treatment to some creditors – exactly what bankruptcy law was created to safeguard against), customers who borrowed money from Laiki Bank and have no significant deposits there will simply be moved to Bank of Cyprus without having to pay back the money before originally planned.

Remember that loans are assets on the balance sheet of a bank. This is how they make money. By making up an arbitrary rule that the assets are to be moved out of the bad bank, the losses to savers and businesses like this company will be significantly bigger than if Laiki Bank had gone through an ordinary bankruptcy.

I don't get it. Which creditors are getting special treatment with this deal?

You need to have a minimum of 5 hours on the forum as well I believe.
Personally I think the restrictions in place are fair and avoids spam in other forums which contain helpful and important topics.
Frustrating as it is, it's not too much hassle to overcome the restrictions with so much content posted every hour, just keep reading whilst logged on.

Ya, it's got its upsides and downsides I suppose

Many bitcoin holders may feel like its a good thing that bitcoin -> $ value doubled within past few weeks,
but thats terrible news for people who sell stuff and would like to accept bitcoin...

It's a newborn for starters, and because there's a fixed supply and a forever increasing pool of adopters, the value is set to rise until everyone knows what Bitcoin is and has decided they want it or don't want it.

Yup, it'll continue to rise imo

Re: Will ByteCoin confuse people about BitCoin

I think we are headed down a slippery slope with ByteCoin.  People are become confused and it will turn them off.

For starters all the topics should be pushed to the alternate currency topis and not had in the newbie or other Bitcoin topics.  This is [Suspicious link removed].  I would go so far as to suggest a Bytecointalk.org be created.  for now the alt currency is the place for that talk.

So why do I think its a slippery slope, the first time someone is tricked into buying a bytecoin for $100 only to find out they were scammed there will be an uproar.  Mind you they should have educated them self, but people coming to this for the first time will not know the difference and it will confuse them.  They may well turn away thinking it's too complex.

I'm not suggesting it not exist, or that Alt coins are bad.  I think we needed to separate them from Bitcoin so it doesn't pull Bitcoin down while it tries to stand up.

Hm, interesting

I would give you some money (because I just randomly hand money to complete strangers for no reason all the time) but I don't like scammers and give your propensity to transfer wealth to scammers any wealth I give you has a high probability of ending up in the hands of a scammer.  So because we both hate scammers you will understand why it is a good thing I don't give you anything.

lol!
