False alarm, I totally forgot that I had a BNB Smartchain wallet. It's all there.

Sincerest thanks for your patience and taking the time to reply.

I'm confused. You say the wallet has been empty since 2022, and the phishing attack just happened a few days ago. Obviously the phishing attack can't go back in time two years to take your crypto in the past ;p

You say "That would be me, not them". So you already know the answer. So what is your confusion?

About the possibility that if it was emptied, it may have been done so in a technically sophisticated way that would not show any activity.

But I guess that would be silly if everything is recorded on the blockchain.

How do I know if my Metamask wallet was emptied?

A few days back there was a phishing scam faking an email from BlockFi. I fell for it and signed into my Metamask for them.

Only problem is that it has been awhile since I remember checking on those assets and so I don't know if they're gone because the wallet was emptied or if I transferred them myself. Under 'Activity' it gives a 2022 date for coins being transferred out. That would be me, not them.

Can a crypto robbery like this be done without it showing up on Etherscan? I'm just confused at this point. Maybe I was drained of those assets or maybe I just don't remember when/where I emptied them out a year or two ago.

Exchanges restricting Canadian users based in Ontario

Apologies if this did not make it to the right board, mods move it if necessary.

So does anybody have details about crypto restrictions in Ontario (Canada)? It looks like restriction to a bunch of the exchanges will start at the end of December. Is this just restricting access based on IP location or are the exchanges actively going through KYC IDs to determine who actually resides in Ontario?

Nevermind the liquidation price bit. But still wondering about the Repay function and your opinions generally.

FTX or Binance?
by

So I've migrated to FTX basically because my impression is that the counterparty risk is considerably less... ie SBF seems less sketchy than CZ. Not sure if my instincts are right about this, but I am willing to hear any opinions about the matter.

But I have to be honest, I MUCH prefer the Binance trading terminal layout, especially for margin trading. I have yet to do any margin trading on FTX, but it looks like you have to open an entirely new window to see your liquidation price. And what about the Repay feature? How does it work with FTX, do they just automatically repay when the trade hits your Take Profit?

Bitcoin Futures ETF
by

on 11/10/2021, 21:29:18 UTC

Can anybody with more experience in tradfi explain this:

I am reading that the approval of a Bitcoins Futures ETF - contrary to moonboi hype - could actually slow or reverse any potential upward trajectory that BTC would otherwise have.

Apparently if it trades with a contango then it will be hit by "roll yields". Not sure I understand this, but am interested still.

Or, just generally, how would approval of a Bitcoin ETF affect the crypto market short term?

Delta and CVD ideas, especially quantifiable

After getting Exocharts I'm thinking of ways of utilize the information provided on Delta and CVD (Cumulative Volume Delta), especially since it's offered as a downloadable Excel spreadsheet.

How do you incorporate this information (Delta and CVD) into your trading strategy? Especially interested in quant perspectives on this.

Just thinking, bear with me...
by
DaC0nsumeR
on 04/10/2021, 00:22:59 UTC

Not a technologist or a programmer, just an independent trader, so if you can bear with the technological ignorance revealed here, I will try and not be too vague.

Recently I was reading about the transition to a "cashless" society, which of course got me thinking about government surveillance, and then logically about the claims of the Austrian-type of Bitcoin believers. I am not myself in this camp that makes claims about financial sovereignty and sound money, but I do sympathize with libertarianism on an ethical level.

Now if governments do find that they have to clamp down on cryptocurrency it seems to me that they would have to do so at the level of infrastructure and hardware. Around the same time that I was thinking about this, I was also at hard wallets.

It got me thinking that despite being digital and a network, Bitcoin could in some sense, to the extent that it exists outside government controlled/regulated infrastructure, constitute a new form of cash, that is if hard wallet technology can facilitate easy interactions. Is there a sense in which cash might be able to exist in technologically evolved form?

This idea must be out there already, and I am probably just behind in what's going on in hard wallet technology, but it seems to me like that could be the key to cryptocurrency's being a viable alternative to centralized digital currency/social credit/tyranny.

Re: Simple question

bitcoin price is not and never been set by coins in circulation.

the price is only dependant on the SMALL amount of coin that is set on order lines.
what you find is that the small amount of coins is then bloated up by WALLS created by certain exchanges to try stabilise the markets vs other exchanges.

yep while the little guys play the penny changes to get their small 1% the big exchanges and arbitragers are playing the bigger game around different exchanges.

in short. the price does not need and doesnt have 180million users playing with $4k nor does it have 4k users with $180m

the market is actually controlled by a smaller group of people.
it does not nor ever has required millions of users to set or change the market.

once you see the orderlines make an order and cancel an order several times a second, you start to learn its all bot controlled by certain groups set across different exchanges.

its never been about XXXnumber of users. its about strategy of a few that have the positions and the walls to control the price.

yep. there is more market influence by 'arbitragers' that have no interest in actually buying and selling billions. but using their funds to make/break walls.

whether industry gets involved or millions of users get involved it wont affect the grand scheme of things in bitcoin price

once you get passed the idea of individual investors with their household bank account values. and instead realise the arbitragers not wanting different exchanges to go in different directions. and only go in one direction simultaneously. you will start to realise that industries and individuals dont really do much for the price

Thank you for this reply, can I send you a message here?

Appreciate all the answers too, by the way!

Where is the demand going to come for in Q4?

Me. (and others like me)

Will retail, sans lockdown money, be able to shovel enough cash into crypto this time?

Eventually.

Otherwise, it seems to me like upward price action will depend on institutional investors.

Does it matter?

So you're all in / a true believer, then. Dollar/fiat going to 0?

Serious fundamental analysis / forecast
by
DaC0nsumeR
on 11/09/2021, 19:53:39 UTC

Is there any halfway serious, i.e. insightful, fundamental analysis on Bitcoin and the crypto market?

Even a serious discussion here, but specifically taking into account MACROECONOMIC CONTEXT.

It seems like 90% of what you find online is either A) complacent TradFi or B) delusional libertarianism and Austrian fundamentalism.

Taking nothing for granted, what is a reasonable forecast for Bitcoin by the year's end?

exocharts data possibilties / number crunching
by
DaC0nsumeR
on 07/09/2021, 20:54:31 UTC
Anybody else here use Exocharts?

There is a feature that allows you to download an MS Excel spreadsheet all of the data from the Footprint Bar Statistics.

I'm eager to figure out what I could possibly do with so much ready-organized data. It would seriously seem like a missed opportunity to do nothing with it.

That being said, statistics and maths are not my forte, not a numbers cruncher or a programmer.

But it's amazing, just looking at columns of neatly organized data: open, high, low, close, OI, OI Delta, Volume, Delta, CVD, POC, H-L

Where do I start as far as incorporating this into a strategy?

Anybody else here have crypto on BlockFi?

What is your reading of the situation of their being investigated for their accounts being unregistered securities?

How much should a customer of theirs worry about this?
