Re: Why Should people wait for confirmation of Bitcoin?
by
Daneric
on 21/11/2016, 19:39:58 UTC
I just thought about this today. Every time you are transacting with bitcoin, you will be told that you have to wait for bitcoin confirmation. This is common with bitcoin gambling sites. What I know is that bitcoin transactions are irreversible. Then why is it that you have to wait for the confirmation before initiating anything?

After a transaction is broadcast to the Bitcoin network, it may be included in a block that is published to the network. When that happens it is said that the transaction has been mined at a depth of 1 block. With each subsequent block that is found, the number of blocks deep is increased by one. To be secure against double spending, a transaction should not be considered as confirmed until it is a certain number of blocks deep.

maybe you can get more information from this article. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Confirmation

Thanks for the link. A very good source of information. Indeed the confirmation of transactions is explained in detail.

Re: Loans too risky?
by
Daneric
on 21/11/2016, 12:32:26 UTC
Any business venture or activity that is intended to give a return always has some amount of risk involved. Giving loans on this forum is a good venture for those who like to make a few coins on top of their bitcoin. However, not everyone is honest and other people come here for different reasons. Some will request for loans to gamble with a hope that they will multiply. As it is with gambling, they will end up wiping out everything and have nothing to pay back. Anyway, as long as you have their collateral, you should have no problem.

Re: Release 21 days Paypal Hold- Instantly! New Paypal, Ebay Fund Hold- All Possible

Your service could be of great help to me only if you can do accounts which are limited. My paypal account is more than 5 years old but one year ago, I transacted with someone who had hacked another account and therefore my account was put under limitation. I have funds in my account but I am unable to withdraw the funds to my local bank in my country. They require me to have a US bank account which I currently don't have.

Re: Why Should people wait for confirmation of Bitcoin?
by
Daneric
on 21/11/2016, 09:41:05 UTC
What I know is that bitcoin transactions are irreversible. Then why is it that you have to wait for the confirmation before initiating anything?

bitcoin transactions are only irreversible AFTER confirmation.
imagine it like:
writing a cheque. you can validate the cheque by calling the bank and checking the balance is available to spend and the person is who they say they are. but until the cheque is cleared by the cheque clearing house you dont yet have the funds to spend yourself and the funds can bounce.

writing a transaction. you can validate the transaction by checking the inputs and checking the balance is available to spend and the signature belongs to the inputs. but until the transaction is confirmed into a block you dont yet have the funds to spend yourself and the transaction can be rejected.

there are a few ways to write a transaction announcing you as the destination. making you see the unconfirmed transaction. but then write another transaction using the same original input funds to move the funds elsewhere and getting that transaction accepted into a block before the one you were hoping for. thus making the one you were hoping for get rejected.

so until the transaction you were hoping for is confirmed (irreversible) dont trust it.

double spends are actually easy.
(a)someone makes a tx to you, but have insufficient fee.

(b)someone makes a tx to themselves with a sufficient fee. and then a (c)third transaction prespending that transaction with a suffient fee to push transaction c through.
this is using features called RBF(replace by fee) and CPFP(child pays for parent)

so until the transaction you were hoping for is confirmed (irreversible) dont trust it. especially ones with insufficient fee

This is a very detailed insight and it has opened my eyes. Actually, someone can send you bitcoins and forward the transaction ref to you as prove of payment. This means that the tx ref only can not act as prove of payment until there are confirmations on the transaction.

Re: Bitcoin address rating system

Really, is it feasible to rank bitcoin addresses for reputation. In my wallet, the address keeps on changing for security reasons. I am just imagining how I will go on doing like that for every address that is generated. if addresses were permanent, then it could be a very good idea.

Re: If Bitcoin was made illegal by your government would you still use it?
by
Daneric
on 21/11/2016, 09:24:00 UTC
Bitcoin will still be used whether governments ban it or not. For instance, as we speak, my government has not allowed bitcoin to be used and even placed a public disclaimer to those using bitcoin. Notwithstanding, bitcoin is used here on a large scale. Therefore I don't think the government can put a stop to bitcoin use.

Everyday we are having at least a new coin coming up. Bitcoin has been around for quite some time and it has also gained considerable popularity. Its nature of transactions has made it to spread very quickly and I don't think it is going to die any soon. I believe 100% that it is here to stay and other coins will come and go leaving it to dominate the crypto-market.

I have transacted business on localbitcoins for over a year now. I have never had any issue with them. intact there was a time i was about to trade with a scammer and localbitcoins prevented me from releasing Bitcoins to him saying that he has pending complains. Therefore I really trust their security system.

Re: Have question in create first loan in BTCJAM .
by

on 21/11/2016, 07:41:25 UTC
If the way you have posted on this thread is the same way you posted on btcjam, trust me, no one will ever fund your loan. As much as you are verified, you need to provide information that is consisted and provide more information as much to attract investors. Some of the information may include;
       - the reason you are asking the loan for
       - Your source of income
       - How you plan to repay back the loan
       - and any other back up plan that you have in case your main source of income does not come through

I hope this helps you?

Re: Why Should people wait for confirmation of Bitcoin?
by
Daneric
on 21/11/2016, 07:34:28 UTC
This is to prevent people from double spending those coins. There is a way to sort of 'charge back' BTC and waiting for this confirmation insures it is a valid transaction.

Person sends transaction to address with small fee and then sends another exact transaction to another address with a much higher fee so it gets confirmed first which will invalidate the original transaction allowing them to keep their coins. This is very, very difficult to do though but not impossible.

I get your point. I never imagined if there could be a double spend in bitcoin transactions. But human beings are mysterious and they can do anything you cannot imagine.

Re: bitminer.io real or scam?
by

on 19/11/2016, 19:23:07 UTC
I have good experience with this service. I have used it for a while. The upgrades make sense and are well priced as well as affordable for less wealthy people, too. However, I advise you to consider the opinions above me. Probably, I was just lucky in the past and I do not use the service anymore.

You must have been lucky if you received any payout from them. This normally happens to the first people to use any scam service. Once the scammers feel they have accumulated enough, they stop paying and disappear with peoples money. I tired their free service but so far I have pending withdrawals for more than two months.

Re: Is Paypal a scam?

Daneric
on 19/11/2016, 19:17:49 UTC
I use PayPal for many years and I have never had any problems with him. Despite the disturbing news I continue to use this payment system. I feel so comfortable

You are lucky if you have never had any problem with Paypal for all this time you have been with them. Sometimes it just happens that the person that you are dealing with on the other end is not honest. The moment he raises a complain with Paypal in regard to your transaction, that will be the start of your problems with them. Pray that you deal with honest people only.

Re: Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities

It is true that bitcoin can be used for illegal activities. The transactions in bitcoin can be traced to the origin and dealing in bitcoin is so easy. You don't have to verify your identity to send or receive bitcoin. Criminals feel happy with such features of bitcoin and will continue going on with their illegal activities.

Re: Have you ever lost Bitcoin?
by
Daneric
on 04/11/2016, 11:52:06 UTC
When I was new to bitcoin, I lost a few bitcoins in different ways. The first one, I was gambling and was excited when I was winning. In fact I had doubled my deposit in a very short time. I thought that was lucky day and became greedy. Within a second, I busted all that I had won and all that I had deposited. In the second instance. I found a link on youtube that ws claiming to be a bot that could multiply my bitcoins. I downloaded the boat and tried to use to gamble. when I just clicked to start playing, a saw an error message displayed and the account was zero. That is when I realized I had lost everything to the bot
