How about installing the hynix card first? can you do overclocking?

there is this settings in the MSI AB to untick the Synchronized settings for similar graphics card in order to set clocks individually.

I am just wondering on the greyed out issue, that problem is seen in incompatible driver to MSI AB versions, however you've told that its working on 3 gpus so its kinda weird.
The 4 GPU's worked when I used them all individually, just not when I have them all connected. I only have 1 Elpida card and 3 Hynix cards. Not even sure why since I ordered them all from the same link on Newegg.
I will try unplugging the Elpida card and see if Afterburner works on just the 3 Hynix cards.

try blockchain driver
Where/how do I get that?

I bought a second-hand mining rig 8 x 1050ti evga. The rig only recognize 6 cards.
I never got it running for more than 1 hour then it's froze and restart itself. The guy sold it to me told me that it happened to him after couple months he ran it.
You guys have any input? Thank you!

Whats the power supply,motherboard,driver?

Hey guys, will this be good enough to get me started with a 6x GPU setup?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/1R0CC728R2G1O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_ws_I9kAAbV9B5T4N

I'll be ordering the Frame from ebay and GPUs from elsewhere.

thank you

Does the processor comes with a cooler? If it does then you don't need aftermarket cooler.

Try v007 or v008 riser instead of riser that use sata to 6 pin adapter

You only need 4gb of ram

Never tried that psu not sure if you have enough connectors, make sure you have 6 x 6+2 pcie cable, 2 sata or sata + molex in 1 cable, you need 3 of those cable to power up 6 riser, it is not advisable to power riser via sata or some might say do not power more than 2 riser.

You need a ssd or you gonna run your OS via usb drive?

You didn't not mention what types of gpu you are getting, so not much advise can be made on psu.

Re: best motherboard for mining with less problems need your experience

Just sharing my experience on the board that I used

Asus prime z270a/AR : about 30 of them only 1 of them fail to get 7th card running, tried everything and give up, didn't try m.2 to pcie adapter.

Biostar tb250 pro(12 pcie): ordered 5, rmaed 2, in the end 5 of them works with 12 rx 580, need to shut down and wait for about 30 sec before turn it on or no display(someone told me is latest bios issues, didn't bother to flash older bios), 1 of them lag AF in windows don't know why, but running stable for 2 weeks, had to set miner priority in task manager to get my hashrate stable.

Asus rog strix b250f: 6 cards with usually 4g,pcie adjustment in the bios.

Asus rog crosshair vi hero: same as strix b250.

Asus rog maximum ix apex: same as strix b250.

Asus rog rampage vi extreme/apex: same strix b250 but with abit more efforts x299 bios are weird.

Onda 6 pcie slot motherboard( forgot the actual name): Windows slow AF, would not start up when Windows reinstallation restart, random shut down once in a week, had to use 1st gpu display port to enter bios( running 6x 1050ti,didn't update motherboard bios).

I only use those rog board to mine cos i had to rma my biostar board.

All of them are using Windows with minimum of 4gb of ram, all cards are rx 580 8gb, lowest tier processor is a g4400

Replying on phone, sorry bout the mess
Hope this helps

Re: [Tool] AMD-Compute-Switcher for switch automatically to compute mode
by
Daniel0303
on 24/01/2018, 12:52:12 UTC
AMD-Compute-Switcher helps you to easily switch between compute and graphics mode.
It loops all registry folders of your AMD software and detects if the card is in graphics or compute mode.
If one is not in compute mode it will try to switch all to compute mode and if all are in compute mode it allows you to go back to graphics mode.

Download: (VirusTotal)

Compatible with AMD Crimson software. (17.10.2 and higher because before there is no compute option or you can use blockchain driver instead)

Getting started:
  • Run AMD-Compute-Switcher.exe
  • Read the message, on top you see "switch to compute mode" or "switch to graphics mode". Press OK if you see "switch to compute mode. - this happens if one card is not in compute mode.
  • Reboot

Changelog:
  • 1.0.0: First release with simple switch

Special thanks to this post because I'm using this logic.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2312585.msg23637946#msg23637946

If you have any improvements you can post them here or send me a private message.

Thanks for the tools, will try it on my next build.

Yeah the board is fine with another psu.

i not sure about this type of pdu, but i never had this problem even if i didn turn on both psu at the same time, im using paper clip instead of add 2 psu for dual psu

I think I screwed up big time.  I bought a switched PDU, so I could restart miners from work, when they hang on occassion.  I'm using two psu's per miner with a dual psu adapter to connect them to the board like the one below ...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074DQJY8K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went to test it out by shutting down two of the outlets on the pdu that one of the miners was connected to.  When I went to turn both of those pdu outlets back on, nothing came on.  I took that miner off of the switched pdu and plugged it in elsewhere.  Still nothing.  So I swapped the board ... Still won't power on.

Is it possible that both pdu outlets didn't power back on at the exact same time and that's what caused this?

Did u try with another psu or power cable?

Re: My New Closed Mining Case In My Room - any advice, tips , complains or comments
by

any advice, tips , complains or comments please

I live with my parents so I did a close case rig in my room

I bought 8 1080 ti.
unfortunate the m.2 to pci-e conntector not working for me so I put one of the cards on my pc and I replaced it with the r9 380

7 x 1080 ti  in the rig
1 * 1080 ti in my pc
1 * 1050 ti on my laptop (I bought it for gaming before I started to mine)

I bought the closed came with very noisy fans so I replaced all the 14 fans with  Noctua NF-A12x15 FLX 12cm 1850RPM,
https://noctua.at/en/nf-a12x15-flx

and the case also came with 1650W Power supply but it's not enough for 7-8 cards so I added 850w above the case

look at the pictures  Grin

Question regarding Server Power supply, Riser and 6 pin to 8 pin cables
by
Daniel0303
on 22/01/2018, 05:08:13 UTC
Server Psu breakout board usually comes with 6pin and convert via 6 to 6+2 pin cable x2 , is this safe?
Can i Power Gpu and Riser using 1 cable? e.g 6 pin to 6+2 pin x 2 , 1 6+2 for gpu and 6 for riser?
Which Psu Brand and model give 3-6 VGA cables?

I build few rigs with the rules of not more than 2 gpu per sata cable, what i usually does is 1 cable = 1 sata 1 molex

Due to i will leave my rig unattended i would rather spent a little bit more to keep it safe

Thanks

Daniel- yes, all six GPU work fine independently but windows 10 does not see them all when plugged in together.  It will only see up to 5.  GPU seems okay, it’s a brand new 1200 w platinum evga. I also tried completely wiping the GPu drivers with DDU and still no joy.

I’m starting to think this may be a windows 10 problem.  I may reinstall.

Thanks for all the suggestions, please keep them coming!

Do you have extra riser?
Did u try another power cable to riser and gpu?

It might sounds stupid, but changing power cables work for me sometimes, and did you use metal or aluminum frame? sometimes the solder on the riser poke out of the form and short.

Hi guys
im looking forward to build a nvidia rig for equihash
Does Gtx 1060 3gb worth it over 1060 6gb consider only few % higher from the 6gb?
Does memory type matters for equihash?

Thanks

You need to bios mod your card, they are pulling too much power on your setup
I run a 12 gpu rig on windows 10 with 2 1600w china psu (with 90 gold sticker on it) < LOL
not sure about the real efficiency rating but im pulling around 800w on 6gpu and 900w+ on 6 gpu + mobo+ cpu + ssd

From what I understand here all 6 card and 6 riser working fine but unable to detect when 6th is plug in?
Does your psu have enough power?
Did you tried to change power cable that powering the riser?
Did you try without gpu drivers?

Re: Motherboard and PSU questions. Any help would be so welcome.
by
Daniel0303
on 17/01/2018, 09:17:55 UTC
Hi All,

First off, i have tried looking on youtube for answers, and I am waiting on a reply from Biostar, but none has been forthcoming thus far. So i am turning to this forum for some help. Also, the user manuals and the websites don't give enough information.

This is my first build, and looking at MOBO reviews decided to go with the Biostar TB250-BTC PRO motherboard. As I live in South East Asia, stocks of 1200 W PSU's are quite hard to find and troublesome to order overseas for delivery.  As such, the was only one available PSU which was the Gigabyte XP1200M. The information found on the Biostar website for 6 GPU's (RX580's) was for the minimum of 1x1200W. There was no information of required connections on the PSU.

Here are the links to the hardware mentioned above;

MOBO:http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/kr/event/crypto_mining/page4_2.htm
PSU: https://www.gigabyte.com/Power-Supply/XP1200M#kf
The link for the PSU has a good photo of the back of the PSU.

I haven't connected anything yet, as when i unboxed the PSU and was looking at the connections on the back, and the number of connections i believe the motherboard needs, there seems to be not enough. But i would love to be proved wrong.

The physical connections on the PSU are as follows;

ATX/MB 20+4 Pin x 1
CPU/EPS 4+4 Pin x 2
PCI-e 6+2 Pin x 4
SATA x 4

The cables that come with it (which there are many), have multiple connections per cable.

Power.
According to the Biostar website, i require at least 4 power connections a 24 pin, 8 pin and 4 Pin (x2). Even for running only 6 GPU's.

Question 1. Does the 8 Pin MOBO power connect from CPU/EPS 4+4 connection on the PSU.
Question 2. For the 4 pin (x2) MOBO power requirement, does that come from the 6 pin SATA connection. The only cable (boxed with the PSU) with a 4 pin connector is the SATA cable. There are 2 SATA cables that have 4 x 4 Pin connectors on each cable, essentially giving 8 connections over 2 cables.
Question 3. Further to question 2, do you think i can daisy chain the two 4 pin power requirement on 1 SATA cable.

Risers.
Question 4. As i have 6 Riser cards, the least i can use is 3 SATA connectors on the PSU. As according to the Biostar website, i can run no more than 2 risers on one SATA cable. Is there another way? or is this quite acceptable.
Question 5. To power the GPU's from the PCIE connectors on the PSU, can i also daisy chain 2 on one cable. There are 2 PCIE cables included with the PSU, that each have 2x 6+2 connections. Which means if i can use them in this fashion, i would have to purchase one more.
Question 6. I purchased a SATA SSD, so can i place it on the same SATA cable as the 2 risers, and not create a problem.

If this crypto mining designed mother board has such a power requirement (even for 6 GPU's) could there be an adjustment on how the GPU's are powered ? otherwise what use would this provide.

Sorry for the length of this post. Just eager to get into this.

Hi,
I hope this help

1. Cannot fully understand your question, but you only need to plug in 24pin and eps cable 4+) to the mobo, no need to plug in 2 of the 4 pin molex and sata on the board.
2. Not sure about this, I did not plug in the molex and sata before, it works for me at least 6/12 gpu rig all with rx 580
3. Do not plug more than 2 connection on 1 cable
4. Same as 3
5. Never tried but is not a good idea
6. It works for me

Halo,
Got a little problem with my 12 gpu rig with claymore
Unstable hashrate (gpu not mining at full speed?) until i set priority to real time in task manager for ethminer.exe

biostar tb250 ( 12 pcie) 4gb of ram, g4400 processor, 1300w psu x 2 and 12 Asus strix rx 580 8gb samsung memory

Is there anyway around this? thanks
