Re: Hottest Investment in 2014: Bitcoin, says MSN Money
by

Indeed it is positive to see Bitcoins in the news. Especially in such a mainstream news source such as MSN, which a lot of people who may not be so exposed to Bitcoins will be reading. I do not recall having seen any major positive Bitcoin stories in MSN Money so far, so this is great. I cannot wait for the time in which a major Bitcoin story is shown in the main MSN page but if they are so supportive over at MSN this might just happen in 2014.

Re: BTC-E now having largest daily trading volume

BTC-E is great in terms of being a fully functional quick exchange that accepts a wide variety of payment sources and also has a real-time chat room which although trolly at times is fairly novel and interesting to watch from a speculative perspective. I know some people are worried that it is based in Russia but I think that it certainly the best option right now. The decline of Mt. Gox seemed inevitable their servers sucked and their costs of transferring money were expensive and their means of transferring funds were too few.

Re: Bitcoin's Outlook In China Is Not Looking So Good Right Now
by

Bitcoins will survive Chinas fall. China has always been notoriously regulative, and in terms of Bitcoins it seems this trend has no exception. However, even if there is a total loss of China, which I am not sure will occur, Bitcoins can still survive and may even prosper. This thread does not serve to show the end of Bitcoins in any way, rather just a roadbump in a single nation which for all we know may not yet be dead after all.

Coinkite Terminal - Credit Card Terminal for Bitcoins

http://blog.coinkite.com/post/70293138622/coinkite-bitcoin-payment-terminal-quick-preview
Here is an awesome example of progress we need towards Bitcoins advancing into the mainstream marketplace and stores. It serves as the equivalent of a credit card terminal but for Bitcoins and Litecoins, and operates wirelessly and over the GSM network. When Coinkite and other similarly themed devices see integration into the mainstream I predict a rise in Bitcoin price. What does Bitcointalk think?

Have you considered mining Litecoins and then converting them into bitcoins via trade or on a marketplace? Thats the method that I chose once I got back into mining and saw how competitive Bitcoin mining was. If you choose that path, I would suggest www.wemineltc.com. It has been working great for me. Just make sure to change it to 0% donating so you end up not paying any fee for mining there.

Re: [Free Plans Too]Possibly the best Mining Monitor I've tried
by

Seems fairly expensive. Given the current prices of Bitoins, 1BTC plus .5 for even more SMS's is going to add up into the thousands of dollars. That seriously cuts into your profits given the price of mining hardware. Have you considered the other free alternatives? Consider searching the forums to find other free or much cheaper alternatives that will help end up saving you precious coin.

Re: Where does Newegg get their balls big enough to double the prices?
by

Like all big resallers Newegg works off supply and demand. There is a reason they raised the price of those cards so much, and the fact is that people want them. It sucks to be on the side of the consumer, but be grateful that you chose to buy those cards when they were so cheap. The same thing happened in the past when a hurricane wiped out the HDD factories and they raised the price of HDD's like crazy in response.

At this point I don't see that there is any reason to give up. It is true that you suffered a massive catastrophic loss but bitcoins grow stronger and stronger with each passing day. They are also at a low point. I would not get back into buying new mining equipment at the moment, at that tends to only be a great investment with each new generation of ASIC's coming out, but given their price range buying some and holding seems like a good plan. How much experience do you have buying and selling on the market?

Re: Some good news from India

This is going to be huge if it gains ground in India. In these developing countries, micropayments are all the rage and bitcoins are the perfect means of performing transactions of this nature. I think a similar phenomenon is going to happen in Africa eventually where people are in a similar style of situation.

Re: "Bitcoin is anonymous" --- According to every avg. Joe, but is it really?
by

If you understand the steps required to keep it anonymous then it can be perfectly anonymous. It requires the creation of new wallets, and the tumbling of coins to insure they cannot be traced. Look up guides on the forums if you are worried about having your transactions traceable, and purchase coins locally using services that do not track your IP address (TOR, internet cafe, etc)

How truly anonymous is this currency/wallet going to be if it is backed by JP Morgan. I doubt it being truly untraceable if there is a big central bank behind the creation of the wallets. Call me a bit tinfoil hat but I would never leave cryptocurrency for some silly big banking imitation that I doubt the anonymous nature of.

I admire her dedication. It takes some serious dedication to stamp a wallet onto oneself. The real question is will she manage to pay the price of the tattoo off with the donations that she receives? I am just going to ignore the whore comments as they seem to me just to be based from jealousy/ignorance.

Re: Next few months are CRITICAL for Crypto Currencies
by

I'd say that more than 99% of people in civilized nations know about Bitcoins. However, I don't think that barely more than 99% knows that much about Bitcoins. But in terms of the next couple months and value, I'd say things will rise back up. It's just going to take some time. Cryptocurrency's are very volatile by nature and this is reflected in Bitcoins ever changing value.

Re: What's your favorite naming convention for mBTC, and uBTC?
by
Desensitizer
on 17/12/2013, 13:12:34 UTC
I would say hands down BTC and then .0XX01 denominations. Newcomers will find mBTC and uBTC a little confusing and sometime I forgot what they stand for. This isn't even considering the more uncommon denominations. However, what I do think would be nice to make things more clear are more integrated BTC to USD/EURO/RUS converters. That way people have an easier way of visualizing what .0158 bitcoins is actually worth.

Re: All this mining is ultimately meaningless
by

I'd say there is a potential argument to be made for the endless supply of altcoins being mined. With established currency's such as Litecoins and Bitcoins dominating the marketplace and being the fore-runners in cryptocurrency innovation, it does seem kind of pointless for the random currencys like BossCoin to exist. However, mining makes perfect sense for the mainstream currency's, as it is what insures the blockchain moves forward and new coins are created. Its essential.

How does one provide Edward Snowden a bitcoin address without anyone else gaining access to it. He's kinda in hiding right now so it's not like you can simply go and whisper the private key in his ear so he can gain access to all his donated coins. Until that problem has been solved I'm not donating anything.

Re: How to know if your a true believer -

How does this relate to me being a true believer or not? I get paid in bitcoins for projects, faucets, and mining. The price going down only hurts me. But I talk on the bitcoin forums and in real life about my passions for bitcoins and my opinions on bitcoins. Give me one correlated reason why this might make one a true believer.

Re: Why is there no Bitcoin day?
by

on 17/12/2013, 08:07:28 UTC
Getting a bitcoin day is as simple as making a significant number of prominent figures in the bitcon community agree upon a single day to be celebrated and an official reason why. I think that this is very feasible. We just need a few potential dates and their corresponding reasons why for people to start considering and we are on the way towards the official bitcoin day!

I was under the impression that they still have not cracked the key to Dread Pirate Roberts bitcoins. They may have the address but they cannot withdraw any coins from that wallet. Correct me if I am wrong but don't the feds not have access to the SilkRoad 1.0's bitcoins at all?
