True. Doesn't mean to say fair distribution isn't a massive priority on the release of a new coin though - in fact it's absolutely, 100% necessary. (Even though as time passes, the fairness of distribution will mean nothing once wealthy people start to accumulate large sums)

It is not however a means to an end. You're right in that people are mostly in the crypto markets for personal financial gain - they're also into it for less then legal reasons, money laundering, illicit trade. As much as i don't want to say it; this is reflected upon bitcoins rise to dominance (And the popularity of anon coins), which was entirely enabled through the deep net and all the nasty trading going on there.

Fact of the matter is, not only is a fair distribution massively important in the initial stages of a crypto, but also a crypto that appeals to peoples personal needs is a must too. And whether people here choose to admit it or not, the only real personal need most people want from cryptocurrency is anonymity to enable them to accomplish such underhanded tasks.

I believe this is sadly just how the crypto markets work. Truth is aside from legitimate investors, the real users are those with criminal backgrounds or with ill intent -- this is the current demographic of crypto users in the markets right now.

Very true Thingamajig! It's a sad state of affairs and I am sure Satoshi has been saddened by how things turned out.

Cryptocurrencies have proven that regardless of the distribution method (POW, POS, airdrops, etc) the end result will always be the same: the majority of wealth ends up in the hands of a few.

Don't think so that banks seeing NEM will make us rich Tongue ...
What is your reasoning?

I think he was trying to say it is hypocritical. Many in the cryptocommunity like to dwell on the "fairness" of whatever coin they are holding but in reality they couldn't care less about what's fair. Everyone is in it for personal gain.

The best alts are the ones with free giveaways. Last week there was reserveshare and today I just learned of premineplus. Nothing beats getting to try a brand new altcoin for free! Also, these fair distributions are a huge positive for the coin's future.

Re: Is there any CryptoPolice?

Some coins host an IPO for a coin, and release the coin, but never use the funds to develop it. Is there anything that can be done for this?
For example. SysCoin did an IPO, but I doubt we will see any developments from them. So can they be legally challenged to refund the money?
Or releasing the coin , frees them from any liability ?

Afraid not. Cryptocurrencies are the wild west (i.e. lawless)

This is exactly what we need to take Bitcoin to the next level. Not only for places to accept it, but to offer a substantial discount in BTC giving people an incentive to buy! Awesome news!

Re: Any worthwhile CPU coins other than current CryptoNotes?
by

If I was going to mine with a CPU I would go with Monero. Seems to be the best out of the cryptonote bunch (definitely stay away from bytecoin - see the bytecoin scam thread for reasons why).

I think Monero has the best chance for widespread adoption out of all the cryptonote coins.

Anyone else notice that while all the scrypt coins are plummeting, the second gen cryptos are holding up nicely!

The future will be coins like NEM, NXT, NODE, CRYPTI, coins that have next gen features.

If you are still holding coins that use the QT wallet (other than Bitcoin), now is the time to get out of them and into 2.0 cryptos!

Re: [Warning] The ride down starts NOW !
by
Deviant1
on 18/08/2014, 12:30:03 UTC
I agree it is going to be a bumpy ride. There are many factors at play with the recent altcoin slide. BTC is down, it's summer, negative publicity in the mainstream media, fear of "Bitlicense", money moving into monster IPOs like Etherium.

I am certain things will look much better this fall, but of course, "the market can remain irrational far longer than you can remain solvent".

Hang in there everyone!  Smiley

Re: LTC and NXT market caps meeting point
by
Deviant1
on 18/08/2014, 12:26:26 UTC
I'd much rather be in NXT than LTC that's for sure. Look at all the amazing features NXT has over BTC. What does LTC have over BTC? A different graphic on the QT wallet and a little bit quicker transaction times.

The only reason LTC got as high as it did is because it was one of the first alts. Once the alt market became saturated, there were just too many better choices than LTC for people to invest in.

I'd love to get in on Stellar. Are they still giving stellars away to people who apply with their Facebook accounts?
Yes, there are still giving out starter Stellar roughly 125 STR.(You'll get more if someone invites you about 2750~ more Stellars)

Thanks! Did you type that correctly - only 125 STR? I remember hearing they were giving out 5k.
