The new beta version is finally ready. You can download PhoenixMiner 5.7a from here:

PhoenixMiner_5.7a_Windows.zip (GitHub)
PhoenixMiner_5.7a_Linux.tar.gz (GitHub)

The new features in this release are:

  • Added lock core clock
  • The problem with the missing GPU temperatures on Nvidia GPUs is fixed
  • Added native kernels for AMD RX6700 GPUs. These are faster than the generic kernels and produce a lot less stale shares
  • Increase the max supported DAG epoch to 550 (should be enough to about Jan 2023)
  • Full support for setting clocks, fan speeds, voltages, and memory timings of AMD RX6900/6800/6700 cards
  • The specific hashrate is now shown in the form of kilo hashes per joule (kH/J). Example: if a GPU has hashrate of 30 MH/s with 100W power usage, the specific hashrate is 300 kH/J
  • Added new command-line parameters -ttj and -ttmem, allowing automatic fan speed control based on GPU hotspot (junction), and memory temperatures respectively. Example: -ttmem 83 will keep the GPU memory temperature at or bellow 83C by increasing the fan speed as necessary. These parameters can be combined with -tt, as well as with each other. These options are supported only on AMD GPUs that report junction and memory temperatures
  • Added new command-line parameters -tmaxj and -tmaxmem, allowing to decrease the GPU usage when the GPU hotspot (junction), or GPU memory temperatures are above the specified thresholds. These options are supported only on AMD GPUs that report junction and memory temperatures
  • Added support for AMD Windows drivers 21.3.2, and 21.3.1
  • Added support for AMD Linux drivers 20.50.x. Use this drivers only if you have Polaris or older GPUs, or the latest RX6x000 GPUs. WARNING: Vega, Radeon VII, and Navi GPUs won't work with these drivers!
  • Turn off the zero fan feature on AMD cards whenever a fixed fan speed is used (e.g. -tt -40), or when an auto fan with min fan speed is used (e.g. -tt 63 -minfan 35). To disable this feature, add -fanstop 1 command-line parameter
  • When -mcdag 1 is specified under Linux, the miner will not wait for the daggen.sh script to finish before starting to generate the DAGs. Instead it will for a fixed 7 seconds. This allows you to do all the following in the daggen.sh: turn off the overclocking of Nvidia GPUs, sleep for 30-60 seconds to allow time for DAG generation, and then re-apply the overclocking of the Nvidia GPUs
  • Other small improvements and fixes

The support for -ttj, -ttmem, -tmaxj, and -tmaxmem for Nvidia 3090 and 3080 GPUs is not yet ready for release. We hope to have it ready for the final 5.7 release.

For more robust integrity check, you can use our GPG public key, which was verifyed with ETH transaction from our main devfee account as explained here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2647654.msg56755869#msg56755869.

Please let us know if you have any problems or questions related to PhoenixMiner 5.7a.

an asset backed crypto currency cannot take advantage of expanding the money supply like bitcoin or other alt coins can.

is advertising for ICOs unethical?
by
Deylandra
on 13/04/2019, 03:35:34 UTC
I've noticed many ICOs have to spend a lot of money on promotions and advertising.

For example, let's say an ICO raises 10 million dollars but has to spend 9 million on promotion.

Therefore, they only really raised 1 million for the project.

Isn't this unethical?

If you're starting a company and looking for investors the traditional way via stock equity, you would never spend 9 million or even 5 million or even 2 million in order to raise 10 million from investors.

This begs the question, what ratio of promotion cost versus funds raised for ICOs is ethical?

And how do we know if an ICO is using an ethical ratio?

Re: Can Bitcoin Beat Banks?

Running a bank is very expensive. You must have a big fancy building with nice furniture, you must pay employees lots of money to wear nice suits.

I would think in the future a physical location isn't necessary for a bank, the operations would be cheaper, and the fees lower.

Like blockbuster versus redbox. Blockbuster just couldn't compete.

I don't understand the point of lightning.

Why not just switch to a coin that can handle more transactions on the chain?

Are we that attached to the name bitcoin?

I've created a new religious philosophy
by
Deylandra
on 09/04/2019, 02:54:40 UTC
I've created the website www.evolution-x.com

The basic premise is that religion is an evolved mechanism in humans that helped us survive.

Bending reality increases a person's happiness which increases one's performance overall, longer life span, better social connections, etc.
This was particularly important before the industrial revolution when everyone was poor, disease was rampant, and it was often difficult to survive.

But one of the side effects of bending reality is that it also leads to poor behavior by basing one's actions on a false reality.

Evolution-X is an attempt to bend reality for the positive while avoiding the negative side effects.

The Deylandra token actually does something useful by allowing you to cook food from home and sell it to your neighbors.

Imagine getting better food than a restaurant for half the price?

Home cooked meals are superior to restaurant food.

It means a lot to hear you say it's a good idea. ICO burnout seems to have hit really hard amongst crypto enthusiasts.

To get it going I'm going to try and form partnerships with culinary schools and target chefs specifically.

There are so many people who dream of opening a restaurant but don't have the money.

Re: Are there any Sports betting websites with 0% house edge?
by
Deylandra
on 08/04/2019, 04:04:00 UTC
I was thinking of trying to build a sports betting website with a 0% house edge.

I was wondering if anything like this existed now?

Basically, the website wouldn't use any of it's own money but would just hold funds in escrow, which would enable a 0% house edge.

For example, if you want to bet $100 on the Patriots and place it with a betting parlor, the house edge is like 10%. The casino needs to make a profit.

But if my best friend wants to bet $100 on the Rams, I can just bet against him and receive a 0% house edge.

But what if you don't have a best friend who wants to bet on the Rams?

This website would enable you to put $100 into a bitcoin escrow on the Patriots, and if another user wants to accept your bet, they put $100 into escrow for the Rams.

A smart contract would ensure automatic payoff upon completion of the game.

I mean, this is basically what Ethereum was built for I think, so I'm assuming someone has perhaps already done it?

I was living in England for a while and there's like sports betting parlors on every street corner. I'm just picturing like, all of this gone in 10 years, like what happened to blockbuster. When people figure out you can get a negligible house edge, why place bets where the juice is 10%?

Such a scenario will work if bets only involve a few people and they have different choices, one person chooses team A and the other person has to choose team B. But when betting involves many people and because the chances of people having the same choice are high, the scenario like that won't work. That is why there must be bookies that are ready to accept whatever bets we make and that will only happen with the help of the house edge.

That's exactly how the site will make money. You can get the zero house edge only if you find another user willing to bet against you. For example, if there are exactly 100 people wanting to bet on the Patriots and 100 wanting to bet on the Rams, then everyone would get a zero house edge.

But that scenario is not realistic. You might get 80 people who want to bet on the Patriots and 50 people who want to bet on the Rams.

For those additional 30 people to bet, they would have to bet against the house's money, which would have a house edge.

You could also offer table games like blackjack, etc with a house edge.

But the lure to get people in the door would be the possibility of a zero house edge on sportsbetting.

The only other way to keep the house edge zero, might be through advertising and scaling to a massive, massive size. That would require deep pockets to get off the ground though.

Do you realize how many people want to start their own restaurant but don't have the startup cash?
