It looks like "yes but actually...".

So, blatant manipulation it is, then.

"We are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions, especially coal, which has the worst emissions of any fuel," Musk wrote.

I smell shenanigans.

Yes, the wallet was encrypted. Will suggest the live boot/scan idea.

Well, he actually DID a Malwarebytes scan, it returned nothing suspicious. Is it possible for a rootkit to squeeze through the cracks and not be detected?

Money stolen from an older wallet version
by

First of all, if this is the wrong section for this, sorry, let me know where I should post it.

Now, there's a friend of mine that used version 1.9.8 and didn't check his wallet in a pretty long time. He had a grand total of 39 BTC in it for some time. A couple of days ago he opened his wallet only to find a transaction from December that sent the cash to an unknown address. From the looks of it, the person that took the money waited for one confirmation and then sent them through some mixing process. Which means any chances of recovery are basically zero.

The question is - how could this have happened? He had the wallet secured with an unique password. The first thing I thought was a vulnerability in Teamviewer that did the rounds some time ago, but he never had TV installed. Then I thought some sort of trojan/virus/whatever, but he claims to have had antivirus/firewall software installed and active at all times. As far as I can see, there are only 2 possibilities left: he either has a rootkit on his computer or somebody that had physical access to his computer did the deed. The second option is more unlikely, since he is careful about who he lets on the computer and what they do. However, maybe there was some sort of vulnerability in that version of Electrum that I don't know about.

Any ideas?

[edit] - he says the wallet was online all the time and that his computer is on most of the time.

yes, a fee was included. Anyway, the order now changed to "paid". It still says expired but I think it's ok now.

Thanks. Either way, in case Bitmain sees this, my order ID is 00120140126041003775Wh31cBf80652 . If need be, I can provide transaction details. Hope this gets sorted out Smiley .

I made an order a little over an hour ago and paid it in full a couple of minutes later. However, no confirmation was shown in the order page, like it was never received. My payment now has 4 confirmations in my wallet, it went through quite a while ago, but the site failed to register it. Now the order is displayed as "Expired", even though I paid for it. I ordered from Bitmain a couple of times before and this is the first time this happened to me. Anyone else ran into this problem?

Before you ask, yes, I sent the BTC to the right address.

I just received my units but the administration page for each and every one of them runs terribly slow. I can browse around, change some options but everything moves slow as fucked fuck and saving the settings is kind of a crapshoot. Any idea why it's so slow? Anyone else got this problem? LE - a lot of times pages just don't load at all, i get code.

Bitstamp - wanted to withdraw money and was hit with these weird KYC questions
by
Dhomochevsky
on 09/01/2014, 14:33:22 UTC
Did anyone else receive such a message from support when they tried to withdraw money recently?

Quote
We received your withdrawal request. As your withdrawal request met some of our volume and frequency thresholds, we will have to kindly ask you to help us better understand the nature of your relationship with Bitstamp. In order to do so, we require that an additional KYC (know your customer) procedure is completed before we can proceed with the processing of your transfer.

We kindly ask you to answer the following KYC questionnaire:

1. How did you learn about Bitcoin?
2. The purpose of trading on Bitstamp?
3. What is the origin of the deposited Bitcoins? If mining, please specify your hardware specifications and submit a receipt or an invoice for your mining equipment.
4. When and how did you obtain your Bitcoins?
5. What is the reason for your activity - depositing BTC, selling, withdrawing?
6. What are your future plans and activities planned on our exchange?
7. Do you plan more of such withdrawals in the future? If yes, how many and why?
8. Which bank are you using? Please provide the complete address and SWIFT code.

We kindly ask you to submit your answers and documents in a reply to this ticket.

First of all, I exchanged money on Bitstamp exclusively since last spring. Withdrawals were less frequent during these last few months, but I had withdrawals both larger and smaller than the one I tried making now. I'm a verified customer with them.

Second, while some questions kinda sorta make sense, others are rather useless, redundant or impossible to address accurately. And some of their requests are downright audacious, not to mention grossly lacking respect to personal security. If I mine it's none of their goddamn business what the hell I mine with, what are the hardware specs and sure as hell they don't need to get invoices to every  piece of hardware I mine with.

So, anyone else?

It's really strange. All my workers are hashing away perfectly, on my end everything seems ok. But pool statistics say only  1 worker of the three is online, although all of them are receiving and sending shares and all of them show good connection to the pool and are working well. What gives?

Govermant want to charge VAT and to do so they need Inovice to be present in the package. Declared value means nothing to them (if you are unlucky to live in country what is strict on that).
You should go to customs and try to explain them, take printscreen (avalon-store) to prove your story, give them a link if needed. You will be charged VAT on whole value + shipping, but at least you will get your avalon.

Nah, it's not that. There WAS an invoice in the package and they were charging VAT, but they still didn't release it for me as a private person. They insisted that it's too large/valuable of a package for a private individual and I need to pick it up as a business. They threw some vague regulations my way as justification.

Well, my order arrived more than a couple of weeks ago in the country but it's been stuck in customs since. I opted for EMS shipping but the order was shipped via DHL by mistake. So right now they won't release it since they claim the package is too large and valuable for a private individual and I must have an invoice for a business in order to pick it up. So I'm waiting for an answer from Avalon, see if they can give me such an invoice. It's been already several days since I opened a ticket and even contacted Yifu via private message. No answer so far Sad .

Well, my order (made & paid on 18th of February) was shipped more than a couple of weeks ago and arrived in my country two weeks ago. Unfortunately, even though I opted for EMS transport, they sent it via DHL. As a result the order is stuck in customs ever since it arrived. They won't release it to a private person, since they claim it's too large and the value declared is too high, so I need an invoice for a firm or some juridical entity. Sent a ticket to support, received no answer so far, it's been more than two days. My problem is that if I don't solve the customs issue soon, I think the package will be sent back. I sent a PM to Yifu too, hopefully he sees it soon Tongue .

Wow. What country do you live in?

These horror stories really opened my eyes as to how messed up and unreliable international shipping carriers and customs can be, for individuals as opposed to businesses.

Romania, the European Union. It's not that the carriers are unreliable as much as customs having a stick up their collective arse.

Well, long stretches of bad luck like these, especially when they occur to a smaller pool can really put it down. Since you removed pps the pool hashrate went down 80 percent (!).  I don't care about the payout method one way or another, but it's fairly frustrating, even for me, to see 40 hrs without a block. On a larger pool with a more constant rate of block generation, in the last 2 days I would've had over 12 btc by now. Since I chose to stick to Bitparking, I only have 2,8. I can feel that loss and I realize it will most likely not be returned by better luck in the future. I'll stick to Bitparking for now, but no amount of alt coins being merge mined can hedge such losses.

I think there is something wrong with the pool... or does the time counter reset after 24 hours? I'm shown a new round began about 25 minutes ago, yet the paid rounds table doesn't show it, like it didn't actually finish. I'm not seeing the amount credited either in my payments area. Best explanation I think is a quirk of the timer or something... so, what's this about?

I take it, since you don't support Stratum, ASIC mining isn't a possibility on ABCPool, right?
