Re: I sold everything at $158/159 this morning

The best time for a person to sell is when they make up their mind to sell. That's what makes a market. It there wasn't any sellers willing to sell, there wouldn't be any buyers that could buy.

I understand the feeling, but be aware of the emotional roller coaster that will occur when things go south. I have been in the stock market for nearly two decades and there are good times and bad.....this just happens to be one of the good for BTC. I possess and believe in Bitcoin, but when a market turns, it can make one lose sleep. I don't think we're at that point yet!

I recently had my blockchan wallet hacked and emptied. I have a request in. I know what money the account is in. I need help.
Thank you

I think you can post a comment on the address of the coins stolen asking for them to give it back! and point to this thread. otherwise just have to hope they return them....

passwords should be 16+ letters long with #'s etc mixed in

Passwords should be a combination of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters (if possible). That's the way the military requires one to set a password.

Re: Query about Localbitcoins trading website

I have used localbitcoins.com a few times in the past week with great results. In all instances I was the buyer so the seller had to place the amount of BTC in escrow. Will use again in the future as I'm very pleased with the process thus far.

Re: How I Lost $1500 Worth of BitCoins
by

Yeah... I have over 100K in a wallet that I cant get into.  I can get into the wallet I transfered them OUT of and I see the 4 transactions where they were sent to the receiving wallet....

but I cant remember the new wallets password.  When this all occurred, BTC was worth pennies.... there are 760 BTC in that damn wallet.

Sad

That's terrible....I really feel for you! Hope somehow you are able to remember it.

There seems to be many BTC that are being lost forever and this is only within it's first few years of existence. By 2140 when the last BTC is mined, I can foresee a massive quantity having disappeared forever.

I've been holding off buying bitcoin for the past two weeks, thinking the exchange rate would come back down. However, it keeps on rising. Will it keep rising past 100 USD, or is this just a bubble?

Also, what are some good bitcoin news sites so I don't have to bother you with my n00b questions?

there is 50% chance to crash and 50% chance to go sky high.

Where are you getting those numbers from?

I think what was being conveyed is that it could go either way - up or down.

Cryptocurrencies have a secondary problem in that because they are not self-validating there is a time delay between your proposed transaction using a given token and when you can know that the token is valid.  Bitcoin typically takes a few minutes (about 10) to gain reasonable certainty that a given token is good, but quite a bit longer (an hour or so) to know with reasonable certainty that it is good.  That is, it is computationally reasonable to believe after 10 minutes or so that the chain integrity you are relying on is good.  It approaches computational impracticality after about an hour that the chain is invalid.

This is not a problem where ordering of a good or service and fulfillment is separated by a reasonable amount of time, but for "point of transaction" situations it is a very serious problem.  If you wish to fill up your tank with gasoline, for example, few people are going to be willing to wait for 10 minutes, say much less an hour, before being permitted to pump the gas -- or drive off with it.  This makes such a currency severely handicapped for general transaction use in an economy, and that in turn damages goods and service preference -- the ability to use it to exchange one good or service for another.  What's worse is that as the volume of transactions and the widespread acceptance rises so does the value of someone tampering with the block chain and as such the amount of time you must wait to be reasonably secure against that risk goes up rather than down.

I am newly aware of Bitcoin (1 week now Wink ) and believe it has many appealing characteristics as a future currency. Although I don't agree with most of the pasted opposition, there was one point made (quoted above) that has me conflicted. For a crypto-currency to ever become successful in the normal operation of society, transactions must be conducted rather quickly, if not instantaneously. I'm finding it rather difficult to even obtain BTCs let alone imagine them one day being used in normal commerce with literally millions of global transactions occurring every second. I'm sure this has been discussed in detail many times on this forum, so someone please provide the prevailing wisdom to this problem.

Greetings! I'm Scott and I don't know what rock I've been living under that prevented me from learning of Bitcoins only a few days ago. I've spent most of my time in Afghanistan over the past five years, but that's no excuse for not being aware of something that makes so much sense. Bitcoins was actually brought to my attention on a precious metals forum which I've been a long time member of. Glad to be here though, and looking forward to learning more. Seems I have a lot to learn!
