I'm gonna talk to my cousin about listing his house for BTC tonight.

Is there a website for BTC real estate?

Someone should get on that!

I can probably modify and add to http://bitcoinnavigator.com for this.

Re: Are there any tools for simulating attacks on Bitcoin network?

Doesn't gavinandresen have a protocol fuzzer?

https://github.com/gavinandresen/bitcoin-git/tree/fuzzer

... but it is pretty narrowly targeted at stress-testing the transaction validity code.

Last year at the NYC conference I mentioned that I would really like to see somebody who knows a lot more about network simulation than I do develop tools to help test proposed protocol changes, simulate Sybil or DoS attacks, etc.

I'd still really like to see that...

afiak Yifu from BitSyncom is to plan to test-execute a Finny Attack with Sybil elements on the prod-network after they get back from GDC, and documenting how hard is actually to pull off, and how it is generally a no-issue to accept 0 confirmation tx and talk about how to minimize risk.

From what I know:
Quote
BitSyncom has plans to use this as their routing device on the meshnet tower.

They are currently in the process of porting pfSense onto it. They have also been working with debian-arm group working on a rather different project(ultimately still to have the option to boot debian from a arm device), the word currently is Raspberry Pi will see some play in the Meshnet project if not for miningOp management.

if there's enough interest I'll bug Yifu and write an article on it since there's talks on considering investing into a BFL Single or multi-set ups, feel free to ask any questions.

I'm buying BTC to try to make $$$ and am "tech-challenged."

There's your mistake, though it is not too late to learn and catch up. mining is profitable again in the USA, assuming you have existing hardware.

but mining is no way by far the only method to obtaining profit when it comes to bitcoins.

Re: [UPDATE] BitSyncom Press Release NYC DEC 15th, 6PM [NOTES!]
by
Disposition
on 16/12/2011, 13:49:26 UTC
Yeah, oh man, lots of stuff was talked about,

it opened with
why our current monetary system is terrible, e.g. fiat money and interest based credit lending; and the fact nobody really knows what's going on anymore.
what bitcoin actually is, as a digital notary system as oppose to a virual or crypto-currency; mentioned a different take on the value behind bitcoin, that the technology itself gives it value, p2p, decentralization, transparency, bitcoin's rules built on top of a p2p system that makes bitcoin worth something, also mentioned the possibility to use other currency system such as TimeBank's hour, or even kilowatt per hour as units of value as other alternative currency suggested, or it can be USD and other government fiat currencies because bitcoin can be easily adapted to this.
bitcoin being a unbiased technology, I don't quiet understand my notes here, but they mentioned about how Bitcoin is anonymous because it doesn't have a obligation to connect to your social life, it's open source, and have no allegiance to any entity and other examples.

they mentioned bitcoins problems too, like how it's designed for a future, where internet access is easy and devices are cheap,
then they bought out the MIPS tablet china just announced! http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9222417/Tablet_priced_under_100_with_Android_4.0_surfaces
and talked about the gap between technology release to consumerism and how this takes way too long, and cheap tablet solution like this is perfect for bitcoin propagation, and how this is really not a new technology at all, and they are in the talks to get NFC onto a next version of this tablet and trying raise some funds, but didn't due to some kickstarter revisions, they are still working on this. called up Stefan Thomas via Skype on this tablet and he talked about some development on the software side e.g. bitcoinjs and then they transferred some Bitcoins using a android app, I think it was Bitcoin Wallet.

then they said how these tablets runs on wifi which means they still need internet access, and Yifu Guo mentioned how he's been working down at #occupy and is the person managing the Bitcoin funds for #occuy and met some interesting people such as the freenetworkfundation who is buidling a mesh network, and that they were also pretty excited by bitcoins, and a very exciting idea was to allow each of these "super-node" towers to also act as a hosted wallet and when you provide bandwidth, bitcoins trickles in, and when you leech bandwidth, bitcoins trickle out; this in my opinion is GREAT.

Yifu is calling this the BitSyncom Initiative, and he said he going to edit the recording and upload it soon, and maybe do another presentation to give some updates and since a lot of people couldn't make it on the 15th, he also mentioned there will a site that'll be tracking this progress.

edit: oh Yifu gave a nice example such that you need infrastructure for bitcoin, like you can't sell the Phones(Bitcoin) without the PhoneLine(tablets+mesh). I say he made a amazing call a few month back because he thought
Quote from: Yifu with Tablet in hand
The software will come eventually, I mean it has to; but what about the hardware? and this was the result.

p.s.
it's was a crazy day, SOPA vote, NDAA vote, Dwolla annoucement, and this :O

We at BitSyncom have some important announcements to make. First off, we would like to take this chance to apologize for the lack of updates on our part. While we continue to work our hardest to deliver, we have not yet been able to commit ourselves full-time into this new conglomerate, nor the Operation Bitcoin project. Life has thrown us a few curve-balls that we did not expect, but we are working to get around them soon enough. In addition, later this month BitSyncom will follow up with a presentation with big announcements, so stay tuned!

We digress, however; the purpose of this post is to provide all of you with an update as to what has been happening so far regarding Bitcoins, and its role in the #OWS movement:
On October 26th BitSyncom had been given access to the Bitcoin fund and given the responsibility of overseeing Bitcoin donations in #OWS from Martin Becze. After some discussion, we have decided to lead resolutions to a few problems that we currently see in the process:

  • Bitcoin donation funds located on the Tradehill exchange:

At BitSyncom, we feel that if we were to introduce new people to the concept of Bitcoin, we would much rather start with them directly accessing the peer-to-peer Bitcoin network instead of them going through a third party. With this in mind, we have chosen to eventually move these funds off of the Tradehill exchange. Details and documentation of this process will be provided at a later date, which will include what we believe to be the best way to store and backup not only the Bitcoins in this fund, but Bitcoins in general.

  • Who’s donations are these, exactly? What has been happening with the money?

As stated on the NYCGA donation page, the Bitcoin donation fund was previously managed by the Livestream group. This is somewhat true, as when Martin initially started this donation drive, it was primarily intended to be directed toward the media group; therefore, many people including those of us at BitSyncom donated to this address believing that our money would go to them. There were serious miscommunication issues, however, and details were lost between the media and financial groups. The fund was eventually thought to be for the #OWS movement when the general Bitcoin community was informed of it, which caused its purpose to become unclear and murky.

Since groups are still able to manage their own funds and donations, BitSyncom plans to communicate with these groups in order to help them obtain their individual Bitcoin addresses, and to sort out donations between the Livestream and other intended groups. We will either try to figure out when the Livestream donations stopped and the others began, or we will calculate percentages that should have gone to any of the groups, and eventually grant these groups their respective finances.

Have any questions? Comments? Please let us know!

check if .android_secure has the files for that app on the SD card?
I don't see that file. where is it ?

.android_secure is a folder there should be a file named com.bitcoinandroid.asec or something similiar in there. you'll need to use the ADB tool from the SDK to pull files from the secure format, I don't know the exact structure either but Yifu should and I already messaged him about it so when he gives a reply I'll let you know,

Good work on Electrum btw! (Yifu's pretty interested in it.)

I've looked into this with Yifu awhile back

the source is here https://github.com/barmstrong/bitcoin-android

check if .android_secure has the files for that app on the SD card?

if so the prodnet.wallet file should be in there you might be able to use ADB to pull it out.

I'll send him a message on Skype to look into it.

Re: Time for another testnet reset?
by
Disposition
on 04/11/2011, 20:09:44 UTC
Three proposed changes to simulate testnet to what the Future for Bitcoin will look like.

  • Fixed Difficulty/Fast Adjusted Difficulty as in the future I do not suspect difficulty to change too much. e.g. controlled environment.
  • No BTC generated per block like in the future, block are mined purely for quickly confirming/verifying transactions.
  • 21 Million testnet BTC generated in Genesis Block, emulating the future of circulation, transfer to faucet.

This will make testing much faster,
one can fire up miner, point to testnet,
request coins from faucet, proceed to test,
send coins back, shut off miner.

I would love to make presentations in Thailand as well. Would you be willing to share your slideshows with the community?

Also, Congrats and best of luck! Hope many people get turned on. Universities are a great way to grow usage.

Yifu's been very keen on providing transparency in the stuff he and BitSyncom(?) gets involved in, I'm sure he'll be uploading this too.

from what I hear there are plans to go down to china with Roger from memorydealers.com to talk to manufactures to accept Bitcoins but this is just rumor status for now I think, but it's definitely been discussed about, china is a big market.

All these promotional materials that you all have designed, are they available anywhere for someone like me to print out? I love would love to pass bussiness cards or flyers out at Ron Paul booths in my town.

this feature has been backlog'd, but let me know which particular design you need I'll just ask Yifu to upload it for now instead of waiting for him putting them onto the site.
