Re: Should I invest in GPU mining?
by

on 09/06/2017, 19:35:31 UTC
Hey guys

I'v been here for a long time

But most mining I did was cloud based and from my laptop/PC  Cheesy
So, I'm really not experienced in the field.

I'm considering investing into GPU mining
I'm reading this

http://www.coinminingrigs.com/how-to-build-a-6-gpu-mining-rig/

Building such a rig would cost around 2500$ if I'm right?
Also, setting up different GPUs shouldn't affect performance?

As I see, mining ETH with that sort of rig would bring around 1000$/month
Making a break even after 3 months

What's my biggest motivator is that, even if ETH goes down, there's always other profitable coins to mine with the setup, right?
I just want some tips to see if I'm not getting ahead of myself
For the 100th time... gpu mining will die in a couple of months. Do not start mining! Nvidia and AMD will release series of gpus only for mining which will skyrocket the difficulty of ETH and other coins also. What will happen with the fork of btc? Do not invest in mining hardware you will lose your money and the market will be flooded with cheap gpus. This happened in 2013 do no relive the past mistakes.

Re: First time miner/fact finding

So, I have been creeping on here as a guest for a while and decided to dive in face first, hopefully the water isn't shallow lol.

My wife and I have been thinking about starting to mine some crypto currency for a while now and we are starting to settle on Monero. (To preface this post, neither one of us has EVER engaged in this endeavor)

We wanted to start small, maybe only spend a couple Grand on a rig and see what we can do. If it shows to be profitable, we have the means to expand to a larger operation.

So down to brass tacks...what would it cost us to buy a rig that we could (reasonably) mine Monero with, considering the current difficulty? If there are reputable persons that build them, we would love to know! Thanks!!
Don't do it man! You will lose your money! This month NVIDIA and AMD are going to release a mining only gpu. This will be the equivalent of ASIC miner - this will kill mining as one of these cards will mine as much as 8 of normal cards so think before you dive in. This happened back in 2014 now it will have once more.

Re: MSI Z170A Gaming M5 6 GPU

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get my mining fully operational but so far only got 4 working gpu's. I use a MSI Z170A Gaming M5 with 6 MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8 and a 1200w coolermaster psu. My OS is Ubuntu but i don't think it is the problem with the os.

In the bios there is a board explorer and you can you see which slots are in use. And that are only 4 but connected 6 gpu's. I'm using pci risers (molex powered) and switched them up a bit but don't seem to solve the problem.

In the bios i changed PEG0 and PEG1 set to Gen1 and Above 4G Decoding set to Enabled

Can you help me?

Thanks
Just try to find some H81 pro btcs or look for biostar.
This motherboard will give you a lot of trouble

Just don't forget about that premine Xo xO
Those guys are not the cleanest idealists you want to rely on and put your saving in.
ZEC just like ETH might experience a serious dump by group of people holding the majority of coins so be aware.

Re: [STRATIS] Should I invest

It looks like a good coin to invest. I only a minor investor because I think it has the potential to gain prominence in the future. I see some potential growth in it in the next coming months that's why I bought when the price is still low. If my hutch is correct then I can potential pick up a good profit from it, otherwise I will just stay and hold it for a bit longer.
So do I, there are some coins that I still hold to get bigger profit
With its active developers and the many events and cooperation that the developers are doing I think it's realistic that price increases happen
I also read a lot about the developers team and their ideas so I can say that it is a good idea to invest now that the coin have not caught a lot of hype.

Well you should check the portfolio of some of the biggest traders so to know what might be good to invest in. Most of the experienced guys are investing mainly in:

-BTC
-ETH
-ZEC
-ETC
-DCR
-XMR

Also you can read about new ICOs and see for yourself what might be a good opportunity to invest.

What are you trying to ask man? If someone here can predict the future and tell you whether to sell or keep you coins. Honestly I can't give any 100% statement but for me DGB is a silly alt coin that does not have any serious idea behind it. Personally I will wait to have at least a small profit and sell to save myself from that coin.

Re: ZENI Speculation

"Zennies are a cryptocurrency using a decentralized network of computers to validate and secure exchange of value. Zennies enable sending and receiving of digital payments instantly and 100% securely resulting from the use of Zennies peer-to-peer network."
Just like any other crypto currency.

"A proof-of-stake type of cryptocurrency is the base for the Zennies payments systems. The Zennies community then expands into necessary cryptocurrency system software and services for community members and supporters."
Well give us a hint what is that all about?

"Active Community
Expanding global support from a new group of enthusiastic users.

Working Projects
Zennies initiatives are driven by community support not ICO promises.

Healthy Markets
Steady trading with a nice upwards trend. Likely attributable to steady organic growth."
Once again very general description. Can someone who have more in depth knowledge explain.

I was really excited about lite coin. It was one of the first coins that I started mining back in the early days. I can remember how nobody believed in it saying it is a worse copy of bitcoin. Still I kept my coins to a moment but then I had to sell since I had to pay some bills BUT if I could I will have still been keeping them to that day. And now with the SegWit!!! Oh boy I think that LTC will have a bright future especially when BTC gets forked.

I once did such a thing with my AWP Asimov and though that the guy I was dealing with was nice and he was asking me a lot about crypto and we have been playing CS GO for like a year together but still at the end the trade did not went well for me haha.

Re: XRP doesn`t have any good news for price?
by

When I read about XRP it was clear that there will be a lot of speculation around it. That is why I bought in the first couple of weeks. I will be dumping soon as I can't see where this project is going. It's one of many coins that relay on pump and dump but this one somehow managed to surface better that other shitcoins.
My advice will be play a little with the current hype but DO NOT INVEST! Good luck on the quick couple of bucks.

Re: Fan speed
by

on 03/06/2017, 00:48:04 UTC
Need help. Fans running at 18 to 20 percent and cant get them to manually speed up. I have tried trixx and msi. I also used -fanmin 80 in claymore and nothing will work. I had the latest drivers installed and thought that might be the issue so i uninstalled and reinstalled 15.12. Im on windows 10 and this rig has 2-290 and 2-380x cards in it. Any suggestions  Huh  Huh  Huh

If you have AMD cards, you need to plug in a monitor or dummy plug in to the VGA connected to primary VGA PCI-E x16 slot for the AMD drivers to be able to read and set the cards fan speeds and temps.

Also you will need to set the default video in the bios to PCI-E as it will be set to VGA.

Try making them yourself. You can buy a used server psu for nothing.
All you will need is:
-some spare time
-some server psu
-high quality cables that can hold a lot of current
-soldering iron
You will have never spend so much little for so much power

Either in the VBIOS (I do custom work on VBIOS ROMs for coin to do this, as well as timings), or me personally, I use a set of tools I wrote.

You can see it here, in the left terminal window - this pic was to show my RX 580 8G successfully mining stable with 30.2MH/s @ 0.7875V: https://ottrbutt.com/tmp/580UV.jpg

Man you have some issues... haha

Re: Help me build my first mining rig
by
Djentriser
on 03/06/2017, 00:36:33 UTC
Hello,
i am trying to get started in mining and i am a total noob.

Asus Rog Strix B250F (BTC motherboard not available in my country)
Intel 6th Generation Pentium Processor G4400
Corsair HX1200 — 1200 Watt 80 PLUS® Platinum (i would go for AX1200i but its not available)
PCIE Riser cable (I am not sure which one to buy but only those 2 available in my country)
G-SKILL DDR-4 8GB 2400bus
Antec F19 Blue LED Fan
ADATA SU 800S 128GB SSD

I am confused about the GPU, I cant figure out which one to pick

GPU options:
  • SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 570 8GB DDR5 Graphics Card
  • ASUS ROG STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING Graphics Card (expensive)
  • SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 570 4GB DDR5 Graphics Card
  • SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 570 4GB DDR5 Graphics Card
  • SAPPHIRE PULSE Radeon RX 570 4GB DDR5 Graphics Card

1. is GPU ram matter? will i get the same hash rate as 8gb on 4gb cards?
2. what to mine?

Thanks in advance

WOOOOOOOW where did you manage to find those cards?
Are you from the USA? You will have difficulty finding any of those cards anywhere else.
I personally will go with:
ASUS ROG STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING Graphics Card

Don't worry about that it will not be any time soon.
I mined with my 2Gb cards for 2 years after the DAG became so big that they will stop mining.
What I want to say is that you will have recovered your spendings and will have accumulated enough capital to reinvest in new ones.
Just mine Wink
