While moving house I have re-found paperwork with the old seed phrase for an Armory Wallet when it was bitcoinarmory.com. I do not know if there is anything in this wallet or not.
Seed phrase?
The recovery key in Armory includes 18 meaningless words and that's called root key.

Seed phrase is a series of meaningful words and that usually includes 12 or 24 words. If that's what you have, it has nothing to do with Armory.

Not quite sure i understand how to even  how to download Armory
Download Armory from btcarmory.com.
Sorry i gave you the wrong response and then got logged out - yes , you are right , that is what i have then- a root key, every day is a school day

Restores from paper backups compute the first 1000 addresses. If the wallet had any use, there is a high likelihood to see history on the first 10 addresses, at which point it's worth syncing Core in full to check for balance.
I will try another day , it’s a steep learning curve. Thank you for your help

Hello,
to fully work, Armory need a local copy of the entire blockchain trough a running bitcoind process (or at least as far as I know).
But, you can still run it in "offline" mode and "Restore" the paper wallets. This should allow you to retrieve the bitcoin addresses (and their private keys) that you can use on a public blockchain to look at the current balance or (with the private keys) import them in a different wallet program.
What could be tricky is that, since you aren't accessing the blockchain, Armory can't detect automatically which addresses were actually in use. You might have, with the help of some more experienced use, to make Armory generate for you a list of additional addresses than the "default" ones you'll see when restoring the paper wallet and manually check all of them.

Not quite sure i understand how to even  how to download Armory . I will try another day opening it on my laptop and your reply near me. Thank you for your help very much

Dear people,
A long time ago my husband was a bitcoin miner. He sadly died 10 years ago now.
And though in his honour I do buy crypto I am just a dabbler.
While moving house I have re-found paperwork with the old seed phrase for an Armory Wallet when it was bitcoinarmory.com. I do not know if there is anything in this wallet or not.
Following the trail along there seem to be a lot of hoops to jump through just to discover what, if anything, is in the wallet.
It seems I even have to download Bitcoin Core , from what i can glean this is the entire ledger and may take a very long time. I think this is very beyond me now.
Is there a simpler way to open this wallet?
Any thoughts much appreciated in advance
